I read this article about a K1 situation
http://www.visajourney.com/news/2007/04/07/17/#more-17
It got me thinking about whether they just had a ceremony or whether they had handed in a marriage license. If they had got married in a Christian church or some other religion and just had a ceremony without handing in a marriage license would it still be classified as married? I mean what about separation of Church and State?

Hi,
I have a question about working in a Canadian border town after I get the K1. Can I work in Canada and reside in the US? Can I have two residences? Anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks!!

you can file for an emergancy AP at your local office.... you will need to take evidence of the emergancy ie. letter/fax from a doctor, letter/fax from a funeral Home...
If that is the case, can you just get the necessary documentation and go to the local office with the I-131? Do you still have to send it to Chicago to get a multiple AP?
Thanks

Hi Flames,
My fiance went there and they said that they could grant one after there is receipt of the AP being filed (normally) 30 days, so basically 31 days (they estimate). Do you know if usually the AP comes before the biometrics test? I'm just thinking worse case scenario. If my family member's situation gets worse and I have to leave the US to return to Canada I'm wondering what I could do. I'm wondering if I left before it arrived if she could mail it to me because I need it to get back into the country not leave. One can always change the biometrics/AOS interview ...right?

I'm just wondering if anybody had the experience of applying for an AP (I131) leaving to Canada and then returning by showing a receipt that it is in progress. If you left before you attained AP approval, and needed to get back for an interview could you go to the Montreal or Vancouver Embassy and explain that you left for an emergency situation and your AP is pending? I'm just hoping that some people here have had some personal experiences of leaving before the AP was granted and what they did. Thanks

If you did have a death in the family or there was a severe illness to an immediate member of your family and you could prove that you filed for an advanced parole (receipt), then wouldn't they let you back into the US?

Did anybody need to get a police certificate from China from overseas because they lived there for more than 6 months? how did you do it and how long did it take?
Thanks
-
This is what I would do: a kiss - forgive; 15mins of kisses time to scratch the head and walk away. I've spent time in China and this is my take: the guys who had girlfriends who spent time teaching them their lang/culture - strong relationships, the ones who just wanted to learn English and have fun - please refer to the 15mins of kissing. Mutual love-respect, it seems from your post that you know what you have to do but are just upset about the money you wasted. Your call - good luck

Does one have to be living 6 months or 12 months outside of your home country before requiring police clearance? can some one please tell me where I can go to find out the rule regarding that.
Thanks

Wait, do you need police clearance if you have been residing in a country for 6 months or 12 months? and where do you find that?
Thanks
-
I'm still waiting for mine, how long did it take you from when you faxed your checklist to receiving the email notifying you about your interview date? Thanks

Did anybody here have to get police clearances from countries you lived in for more than 6 months? does anybody know if you still have to get it if you were there just as a student?
Thanks

Hi,
I have a question as my interview/ medical exam draws closer for an I-129f: I'm a student and will require advance parole to travel in and out of the States after getting married. Does anybody know how long it usually takes to get AP after getting married and filling the necessary forms?
Thanks in advance

Please disregard my last post. I'm just a financially frustrated student

Thanks for all your responses! One thing I don't understand is why you can't just go across to the Detroit side and have the physical done by a USCIS approved doctor for a much cheaper price. As Canadians we are allowed into the States for 6 months...just curious. Thanks again!

I was fortunate because I was getting it changed by the NVC and they said that if I changed it at that stage it would delay the process by atleast a month and encouraged me to send it on to Vancouver. Thank GOD I found you guys and VisaJourney, it has taken 6 months for it to get to the consulate. I wish you the best of luck in getting it changed.

Hi,
My application is at the consulate in Vancouver and I have a case #. However, my address has changed so it will take a while for it to get to Windsor. I'd like to get the medical exam taken care of so that it will be finished when the forms finally arrive here. I contacted the doctor here who does medicals and she says that you have to get in contact with the consulate in Toronto and then they assign you a doctor/time. Does anybody know the procedure and tel #?
Thanks!

Hi Everybody,
Thanks for all your great responses. I think everybody is right, I'll leave it in Vancouver and get a red eye there to make a day of it. I really had no idea the process was going to take this long. I thought as a Canadian it would take less than 6 months to get permission to marry an American. Thanks Again!

My first receipt date for the I129F was in April, and this week the file will finally reach the consulate in Vancouver. I thought it would take less time and am now in Eastern Canada and would like to switch consulates. Does anybody have any experience of having to change a consulate - I'd like to change from Vancouver to Montreal but am concerned about a further long delay.
Thanks

yes, that would be a good heading but I'm still wondering whether they just had a ceremony or whether they submitted a legal document. I mean if they were planning to get married again later why would they get a marriage license? I thought in the US there was separation of Church and State?
Wowsers! This should be pinned with huge wording that says:
DO NOT GET MARRIED BEFORE YOU GET YOUR FIANCE VISA!!!
I feel bad for these folks!
