Good morning, it's been awhile since I've been on, I hope that everyone is doing well. I have a question, my Mother in Law has moved here with us and has a 10 year green card. She is curious if she can collect her Ukrainian pension here. Does anyone have experience with this?

I took proof with me but they never asked to see it. The proof that I have is a monthly statement from the state in which I pay. It has no signature. I would also think that taking along birth certificates showing that they are adult children would be an add on to the letter that you already have. And no some letters are not signed but are still official.

My wife had her interview in Greer, SC today, she passed. Per the lady that interviewed her she has to wait until they have a courtroom oath ceremony because she is changing her name. They have those twice a year, so it could be soon, or ???

Well on to the interview information:

She was sworn in first thing.

The woman that interviewed her did not ask to see anything, she went line by line through the petition, had her sign the front of her pictures (with her new name), and sign the paper for the name change and then on to the tests.

The questions:

1. What did the Declaration of Independance do?

2. How many Justices are there on the Supreme Court?

3. Name one branch or part of the government?

4. If both the President and Vice President can no longer serve, who becomes President?

5. We elect a U.S. Senator for how many years?

6. What does the President's Cabinet do?

The reading test:

When is Columbus Day?

The written test:

Columbus Day is in October.

She said that the woman was very nice and had a calming demeaner that put her at ease.

While waiting I watched as people walked in a made Infopass appointments and were seen immediately. The office is small and was empty most of the time. The people in the "lobby", security and the lady working the window, were very nice and answered some of my questions while I was waiting.

That is it, we were only there for 40 minutes walk in to walk out.

Soon after arriving here my wife and I had dinner with one of my co-workers. He made a very rude and uncalled for comment to her trying to be funny. We it wasn't funny to my wife or I and I let him know that. There was a quick appology and no further comments of that type from him. We have had other comments made that could be taken as rude, but we prefer to take them as jealous comments. . . We really don't let other peoples problems become our problems. If someone who is supposed to be a friend has such a small mind as to say such ####### then how good of a friend are they really? For the most part Americans will be interested in talking with you to learn of your experiences and what things were really like in Russia, as opposed to what the media has put out. You will enjoy it and make some good friends, just don't let the idiots get to you, they are everywhere, in every country. Have a great journey.

My wife's yellow letter was dated 12/8/10 and yesterday we received an e-mail telling us that the file had been transfered to the local office for testing and interview. The status on line also changed yesterday. We still do not have a interview letter, but are hopeful. I also called, 2 weeks ago, and got the "in the que" #######. I would say that based on our experience you should see something soon. Good luck.

Too Funny. We applied 10/26 and I figured we should just jump into the November thread because it looked like we would certainly be the last ones to shut down the October filers thread. Now it looks like we might just close out November as well. Getting pretty discouraged with Atlanta. No updates, touches, yellow letters. NOTHING. Looks like Phoenix lockbox is kicking a$$. Thank goodness my brother-in-law planned his wedding for Nov 2011 or we might just miss it at this rate. Sorry, just really discouraged with the system at the moment. ~heavy sigh~

Well if you come back to October you can hang out with me, I am still there by myself and could use the company. . . Everybody else is gone so it isn't as depressing as reading how people are moving forward. I've had a yellow letter for almost 2 months, I've called and been told that "I am in the interview que" and to call back if I don't hear anything. . . . Seriously, I feel for you, we are in the same boat.

I just wanted to say that at 9:45am this morning I got an alert that I am now at the testing and interview stage. Hopefully I will get a white interview letter with a date on it in two weeks time or less. Which would probably put my actual interview date somewhere in the 3rd or 4th week of March it seems.

Clean water is not a normal thing in the FSU. It is recommended (strongly)not to drink the water without boiling first. I wouldn't even drink it then. It had a nasty, oily looking slime on it after boiling. I used bottled water. More than a few RUB husbands have reported here the amazement their wives have at them drinking water from the faucet! Alla made me drink a glass in front of her and then looked at me like she expected me to fall over dead immediately. She finally has accepted it and likes the convenience (and low price) but still will not use ice in drinks.

My wife finally will drink the filtered water from the refrigerator, she watches the filter status light like a hawk though, it lasts about 3 months. Ice??? No way, I still get funny looks for using it(and still have the leaving refrigerated things out on the counter battle). As far as cooking, she finally gave in to tap water, even for coffee and tea.

Congrats, we have our 4 year later this month. It is amazing how quick it goes by . . .

It never really ends till its all over.

Now my new anxiety is not over the 100 Qs but of the IO poring over my file and asking me weird questions and trying to scare me...what if he/she is rude and mean, what if he/she intimidates me etc, What if I forget some important document, what if the IO does not approve me, what if I am asked for something I dont have...so many what ifs!!!

After the Interview I know I will be fretting over when the oath will be...

Just an update. We had our citizenship interview mid December, about two weeks before the three year mark for citizenship eligibility. Officer had told us they would submit the interview information right after that date(a little over a month ago). However, we saw no movement online for a month, so had scheduled an infopass appt for today.

'Coincidentally', the USCIS officer called us today before the infopass appt and told us that no-one had submitted the paperwork a month ago, but that he was doing it now. I think scheduling the infopass may have bumped the file... he said we would be getting the mail in about a month. Hoping the oath soon after.

Ok, so I lost my common sense and called the customer service line, I endured having the biometrics RFE read to me, line by line. The call was escalated only to be told that it is "in the cue" and to call back in the middle of next month if I haven't heard anything. Well my calendar says Jan 31th, the middle of next month is in 2 weeks. . . We will see, but in the mean time, that was a waste of 20 minutes that I will never get back. . .

I'll bet she was American. And can you imagine they tell us to be careful of these foreign women scammers?
