Hi,
My fiancee has just arrived in the US from Russia on a K1 visa and we are going to apply for the marriage license in our county. On the online application form before making the appointment at the county office they talk about name changes etc. My fiancee is unsure if she should enter her patronymic, Aleksandrovna, as a middle name, and is leaning against it. I am slightly worried since she already has her patronymic on her birth certificate and diploma (in the English translations that I have) that her deciding not to have a middle name might cause discrepancies.
When applying for jobs/schools/tests etc they might see that there is Aleksandrovna after her first name they will assume it is a middle name and wonder why she currently has no middle name now. Will this be an issue, or not? Whatever we decide would apply to when she gets green card as well. I would appreciate any input, thanks.

Thanks Marta, I forwarded these links to my fiancee.

Thanks for the input everyone. I guess there's not much to be done. We'll do our best anyway to get the process started so they can come here next year at least. Thanks

Hi,
My fiancee just got her K1 visa approved this last month, and she will be here this month in September. We plan to hold the wedding soon. Her parents really want to attend the wedding. However, since the US embassy just had massive staff cuts in Russia, the estimated timeframe for anyone to get a visitor visa to the US is now listed as 85 days just for an appointment! Is there anything that can be done to get her parents a visa to the US quickly in time for the wedding? I'm not sure how I can accelerate the process, especially considering the US embassy operations in Russia have just been greatly reduced. I would appreciate any advice.

The embassy was unreachable by phone (it kept disconnecting whenever the transfer from the recording to a person happened), so I emailed them at the contact email listed on the visa embassy website to alert them of the issue. We will also bring a copy of this email to the interview.

To prevent others from making this mistake, shouldn't http://www.ustraveldocs.com/ru/Spelling_of_most_patronymics.pdf be stickied? If I saw this before filing the I-129f, we wouldn't have made this error...

Hi,
I need some advice. My fiancee has the middle name of Александровна in Russian, and we applied for the k1 visa using the English spelling Alexandrovna (I assumed this was the accepted English spelling and when my fiancee checked through the i-129f with me she made no objection to this spelling of her name). We got our NOA1 and NOA2 approved, and have scheduled her visa interview in Moscow on August 24 (I will be in Moscow to accompany her).
However, this past week she has looked through her older documents and it seems her English version of her diploma was spelled using the middle name spelled as Aleksandrovna. She also found that a previous visa issued to her also had the spelling of Aleksandrovna, not Alexandrovna.
I am not kicking myself for not having checked an English copy of her diploma before filing the I-129f. If I had, I would have spelled her middle name as Aleksandrovna on the I-129f. My fiancee's passport (not the visas issued on it) have her full name in Russian, but just her first and last name in English, not her middle name.
In the interest of consistency with her diploma, we are now wondering if it is too late to have the middle name changed from Alexandrovna to Aleksandrovna for the k1 visa. We have up till now in this process been using the Alexandrovna spelling. Would it still be possible in the interview to ask the embassy in Moscow to use the spelling Aleksandrovna for the k1 visa? What should I put on the I-134 Affidavit of Support to bring to the interview--Alexandrovna or Aleksandrovna?
Will any of this mix up affect her chances for social security, adjustment of status, etc in the future? Please advise and help! Thank you.
Do Russians who move to US use patronymic as middle name?

Yes, the patronymic is on her passport, but only in Russian (Cyrillic) alphabet I believe (only her first and last name are translated into English on the passport itself). However on her visa I believe Aleksandrovna is written out in English.
