    Hello,

My husband and I received an approval notice for our i-601a waiver and are waiting to schedule an interview at the embassy. We are having some confusion with our lawyer about the police report from my husband's country (Guatemala.) Initially we were under the impression that we get the police report for his country when we arrive there (after the visa interview is scheduled.) Now the lawyer's office called us and says we need the police reports before the interview can be scheduled. Does anyone have any experience with this? Also I have seen reference in this forum to there being two police reports from Guatemala that we need. Does anyone know if this is true or where we should get them?

    Thank you for your time!

Hi there , I went through the Guatemala IR1 process in 2017 .

We wrote a letter (the lawyer did actually) informó why the police certicates weren’t included in the packet (you have to be in person to get it with the Guatemala ID (DPI) or by using the dPI receipt that has the dPI number on it.

It is TWO certificates you get them at two different locations accords the street from each other. (Polizacos is how they referred to it in Guatemala)  (husband went two wks before interview and had medical & police certs. Done within the first two days of being there.

He took both both medical and the certificates to the interview

if you click my name you can read my whole (well my husbands) experience

really hope this helps best of luck

I have to pay the visa today, after his interview or later that he received the package by Cargo Expresso???

    Thanks

    God Bless ❤️

You pay for the residence card before leaving .i paid the same day he got approved.

When they say POLICE RECORDS, what they mean by that? Only criminal record? Or there is something else?

Im asking because in the court and in the other place (DMV) they are giving him hard time with all these papers!!!

    Please somebody help!!

    Thanks in advance!

    God bless!!!

Policiacos and antecedentes penales are the two forms my husband got from two different places they were located on the same street. If you do a quick google search you should be able to find the address I’ll try to find it once I get home and post it on here

    also my email is jrenoj20@yahoo.com

    happy to help :)

  4. If you go back to the first entries in this thread you can read previous experiences , I would type everything out but my phone when I go on this site after a few min it pops up a spam so I can’t type a lot :( but read the expierneces i know it’s stressful and your almost there also search guatemala embassy reviews and you’ll see other commenters who posted their experience. We finished everything 9/11/2017 after starting in 8/23/2013

    Thank You!

I also used the email copy from the remap website however I only used it to send copy to NVC as for the actual interview they will require an official copy that you can only get if you or family mebwr goes in person to the remap office in guatemala to obtain it.

The emailed version we sent sent to NVC after they requested the updated BC.

Goodluck to the rest of you ladies still in the process. I try to respond on these but I use my phone and I always get spam pop ups when I access visa journey on my phone 😞

Omg! Thank you so much for responding! I was worried about the DPI, he has it but it states single and he has the passport.Thats one less thing to worried then, thanks. Where does he get the policiacos, I Heard that it’s hard to do that. I just want to be ready with all that info.

My husband got it when he went there prior to his interview (he went 1 wk in advance) he got it without any issues using his dpi but when his dad tried to get it for him before he went to Guatemala his dad did have issues he had to pay the police to get them . So I think it would be best for your husband to go in person they give it to him that same day.

Hi. I’m so glad I found someone who went through this process and it’s from Guatemala. When do we complete the DS 260? We already send the I 601 waiver. The biometrics appointment is next week. I’ve been reading a lot that for Guatemala it takes awhile, but honestly our case has been fast. Since your husband just had the interview in September, you will know better this questions, does he need the DPI? He has it, but it has him as single, he also has his passport.

Once your Waiver (601) is approved then you start gathering all paperwork for the DS 260 once that’s ready you (attorney) send to Nvc and wait for case to be completed and appointment to be scheduled. For us it took about 11wks (3months) to recieve appointment.

Yes DPi is needed to get his policiacos and new version of birth certificate (family member may be able to get these for him before he goes but they have to be recent less than 6 months so I would wait until appointment is given) it doesn’t matter that it says single my husbands said single and no issues, visa on passport will be issued as married for marital status.

    Goodluck to all

i try to respond but but I use my phone and keep getting spam messages whenever I log in :(

I agree hopefully by the end of next week...

But from your experience do you honestly think we will get an appointment for December? My CC is Sept.25th.

We’ll we had our appt scheduled the second wk of August for the second wk of September. And our CC was on the last week of July but I didn’t get notified until 8/2 then interview email recieved 8/12 (I may be messing up the dates I can’t remember) but we didn’t wait long for the appointment

it does seem like they’ve have slowed down on the scheduling maybe due to holidays ?

Has anyone recieved anything for Guatemala? <_<They are taking an eternity.

Typically they schedule appointments for the following month during the first two weeks/last two wks of the current month (from what i read when We were waiting for out date) so hopefully you’ll receive notification this week the latest next week of the appointment time I know waiting was the hardest part but your almost there !!

  10. Speaking from my own experience (IR1) we had a joint sponsor and both I (petitioner) and the joint sponsor had to provide 3 years of tax returns and complete the questionnaire for the sponsorship.

For our case only the sponsor questionnaire was completed by joint sponsor no other documents were required from him. (I864 if I’m not mistaken)

    Hello,

We received our NOA2 on October 2nd. The email said to wait for notification from the consulate in Rio to schedule our interview and medical exam.

BUT on the CEAC website, it says that our petition is ready and we can schedule our interview:

    59e8dc76b3b7b_ScreenShot2017-10-19at9_47_31AM.thumb.png.592d32706361c036b56e2b9556d94ccf.png

After waiting two weeks with still no word from the consulate in Rio, I emailed them and they told me they have no record of our petition and to wait until they receive it. But why would it say ready if it hadn't arrived in Rio? Are we missing something? Should we contact the NVC?

Thanks in advance. I really don't know what we would do without this wonderful VJ community.

You can contact NVC directly and they’ll let you know if interview date has been assigned. Most embassy’s have a waiting list for interviews and may take a little longer to schedule .

    good luck

Hello I have two topics I need help with -

So I am getting my papers ready to send in. I have written on here before about this tax issue I had. Basically the tax preparer screwed up my husband's taxes and filed him as single instead of married filing separate. It got corrected and adjusted to him being married filing separate. I was told just to send in his transcript to avoid any questions or providing extra info that the uscis needed to know. That being said, my husband's transcript still says single on it......I ordered it from the phone number provided. My husband called in and spoke to a representative who said unfortunately we won't be able to get the adjusted transcript, however he was able to mail us a transcript he had on his computer which reflects the adjusted married filing separate status. I don't believe its an official transcript though. So what do I do in this situation? Send in my husbands tax return with him showing single plus his transcript showing single and then the adjusted paperwork from the kind gentleman at the tax office? Then write a letter explaining the whole situation why my husband had his taxes filed separate and why we filed married filing separate in the first place? Another question I have, when I am sending in my tax returns for both years do I need to send in the actual tax returns with the w2s or just the transcripts?

The Bank statements......basically me and my husband have our own bank accounts but have a joint credit card plus a joint bank account. We used to used them more frequently than we do now, we use them here and there now. Do I just send the uscis our joint statements in the hope that they wont question the limited activity? Or do I write a letter explaining that we do have our own bank accounts and use those more frequently than the joint ones?

    Please help!!!! :)

This happened to us. Husband was not on our tax return , we did an adjustment and he took the original tax return plus the copy of the adjusted form , copy of tracking sheet showing delivered at the IRS

During the interview he was not asked for our tax return for 2016 so technically we did all that and stressed about it for nothing.. now this may not happen to you and you may be asked for it. I believe that as long as you show that you corrected the mistake you should be okay.

(Husband had his IR1 interview in Guatemala on 9/11/17 & was approved)

    Hey everyone ,

Wanted to share my experience from start to finish and was going to post in other forum (Guatemala Consulate Reviews I think it's called) but don't know how. So I'm just gonna post it here so here goes...

My husband and I started the process in March of 2016 with I-130 application. We applied for an I-601 waiver based on psychological hardship and submitted our case in August of 2016 and were approved  in January of 2017. I had thought that was the hard part as collecting evidence for the 601 was a full time job, but there was lots of hard work after that.

The hardest part of next phase of process was collecting police certificates for every place my husband lives for more than 6 months. Some of the police departments were not helpful and told us it would take weeks (even though it takes 5 mins to write). Anyways, we eventually got everything we needed and submitted to NVC March.

In May we got notice that my hubby needed an updated birth certificate so that delayed everything even longer. We finally got case complete in early September and an interview date on October 4th.

We left for Guatemala on 9/19 to give us enough time to get police reports, medical exam etc. We ended up getting everything done in 2 days so we didn't need that much time at all and I kind of regret going that early but I guess it's better to be safe.

Now onto the interview... my hubbys appointment was at 7:15. We stayed at a hotel near the embassy bc traffic in Guatemala is HORRIBLE and unpredictable, roads are at a standstill for sometimes 30 mins so we didn't want to take a chance. He left hotel at 6:30 and was back and approved at 10:30. He said he had a few problems getting into the embassy bc his watch had gps and bc he had the cd with him with x-rays which isn't allowed in bc it's technology so luckily a stranger outside held it for him. He said after collecting documents (be sure for Guatemala you have BOTH police certificates, there are 2) he waited for a while until he was called. They asked him when he entered US, if he ever left since then, how we met, if I had a big family and how big our wedding was. My husband did such a great job of saying "I actually have a picture of that" to support answers to questions which the interviewer really liked. He saw many ppl get denied but only for missing documents. She told him he was approved and we had the visa in less than 48 hours!

One piece of advice I have for any spouses  considering accompanying their spouse to Guatemala I would suggest DON'T!!! I wanted to go bc I have abandonment issues and didn't want to be away from my husband but I had a really hard time adjusting to the culture and I definitely made my husband more stressed worrying about me. It's really really dangerous here so that's an issue and other than that we tried to stay at his mothers but got no sleep bc she has 15 roosters ####### a doodle doing all night long. Most ppl have them here and even if your immediate family doesn't you will hear the neighbors. There's lots of bugs, the food creates stomach issues if you're not used to it, it's really difficult to get around bc the road system is very disorganized so if you're not from here you definitely won't be able to drive and it's just rough. I thought I spoke Spanish well but not well enough I learned which led to a lot of time in my head worrying about the outcome.

But thankfully it all worked out and I'm happy to pay it forward and help anyone in any way I can. This is the biggest nightmare I've ever been through but there is a light at the end of the tunnel!!!

    Lol that’s awesome 48 hrs ! So happy for y’all !!!

Still waiting for my interview date..

But I have a couple questions.. first one is can anyone recommend a good hotel that is near the office for the medical exam and also near the embassy that is at a good price?? I will be going with my husband to the interview and we will be staying in Guate city for 3 nights and want to budget as much as possible as we still have to go visit family in the south for 2 weeks or so so we need to budget ..

Anyway the best one I could find was for $93 a night breakfast included...

Can anyone recommend something a bit better??

So my husband went alone , he stayed in a hostal . It was a dorm room type of hotel EuroHostal and he gave good praises the breakfast was included and the food was at a reasonableness price . He had stayed at a different one for three days and that was almost $200 EuroHostal he paid $140 for 6-7 nights (estimating I can’t remeber) the price was $15 per day for one person again it was a dorm room style but he didn’t share rooms other than a couple of hours with two people who left during the night (layover)

i booked using booking.com I highly recommend using the app

also so the hotel has free wifi and airport shuttle . He paid for cab which was 50 quetzales one way. The hotel also has bikes for free use and it’s in a gated community they require you provide address of where your going in order to enter the community which I liked.

Thank you I really needed this kind of information because I am trying to make sure I don't overlook anything some of the website things are not totally clear as to cost

Yes I completely understand, just wanted you to have the correct green card fee because I’ve seen people post that it’s still $165 and it’s not. That’s what I was told before the interview and then I went to pay and saw it was $220

you sgouldnt expect  to make any other payment at the interview

you May want to obtain updated police records just be sure, better safe than sorry.

I am beside myself with happiness and gratitude, despite the many helpful posts and success stories I have a deeply ingrained mentality that "it could happen for anyone else but not for me", and glad I was wrong. I will post details on the other thread later. Thanks for your support and positive vibes!!!

I was wondering if anyone has obtained their police records by a family member going to get them? My husband wants to be prepared as much as possible so he has to do as little as possible in fear of not having everything needed. Our attorney said he would only have to be there 2 days and I just don’t see how if everyone’s spouses were there for weeks?

You may want him to leav at least a week ahead of his interview. Medical results could take a day or two , and the police records could be obtained by a family member however my husbands dad tried to get it for him and he had to buy the officers in order to get them. (He ended up getting them when he got there)

And my husband unlike Sarah’s :( had to stay until 9/18 he had his interview mom 9/11 but visa/passport wasn’t ready for pick up until sat 9/16. Oh and husband left on 9/3 and had his medical exam 9/4 same day got results the next two days he got his police records and original bc
