  1. Hi,

I finally got my US immigrant visa stamped in my Canadian passport.

Does anyone know if there's any additional preparation needed to cross the border? I'm flying out from Pearson Airport in Toronto, Canada.

Do you go through regular immigration as you normally do or is it a separate line or something? Do they ask you more questions at the border or is it pretty straight forward?

    Thank you!

  2. Hi everyone,

My interview is this week in Montreal - FINALLY!!!

I'm really nervous because apparently they recently changed the type of police record check you need for Canadians (you used to only need a name record check, now you need a certified record check)...I didn't get the new one but they didn't ask for me to update it...I just don't know if it's going to be sufficient....:S

Also - anyone been through the interview process for CR1 in Montreal? Would love some tips on what to expect/etc.

    Thanks!!

My wife and I became documentary qualified on June 8th. We received notification that her interview was scheduled for Sept 4th on August 10th (1 month ago today) in Montreal for her CR-1.

Her interview went well and the passport was mailed the next day. So she actually crossed in this weekend with her visa! From  our priority date in April, 2017, start to finish, 501 days.

Montreal from what I am told only schedules their interviews once a month. We got ours on this day in August, so Im crossing my fingers that you hear back this week for an October interview date.

Wow 2 months almost exactly! Congrats on bringing her over! It took almost 16 months total? What was the hold up? Thank you!!!

  4. Hi,

This might be a long shot but is anyone else currently waiting on a CR1 visa interview in Montreal in Canada?

I am hoping to move to California from Toronto and was wondering if there were others experiencing a similarly long wait to get over the border? If you are, we should all meet up and bond over this terrible visa journey! It helps to know you're not waiting alone!

  5. Hi,

Does anyone know how long it takes NVC to process a case once all documents have been sent digitally and once the application has been filed online? How long does it typically take to get to the interview stage if everything goes smoothly and no additional documents/changes are required? Just trying to manage our timeline so we know what to expect.

Will you get the actual visa at the interview in your passport?

  6. We've just sent through our DS-260 forms and files to the NVC for our CR1 immigrant visa petition. I have been accepted into a grad school in the US with school start dates in mid-September. Between now (end of June) and September, I don't think that will give me enough time to get my visa in order to enter the US to go to school.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? I've already asked the school and they said they cannot issue me a student visa while my immigrant visa is processing. So I will just need to defer if I don't get my visa in time this year...I really don't want to have to defer my school acceptance next year because I missed it by a few weeks....

Does anyone know if there's a way around this or if there's anything I can apply for in the meantime to allow me to make it for the school year in September?

    Thanks so much!

  7. Hi everyone,

My husband and I are at the NVC stage in our CR1 visa process. Our lawyer has informed us that I will need to present a 5-page birth certificate from China because I was born there. I am currently a Canadian citizen living in Canada. The issue is that because I was born before 1995, I do not have the standardized 5 page birth certificate that China decided to issue after 1995. Going back to China to reissue the standardized birth certificate is quite a hassle and I'm not even sure I can really do it...

Has anyone been in a similar situation? This has really been the bane of my existence and I really don't want any delays on our DS-260 just because I don't have the right version of the birth certificate they're looking for...

Should I be concerned about this at all or is my current birth certificate sufficient as is for immigration? Would really appreciate any comments/feedback/stories on this! Thank you!!!
