Hi! What is the general procedure/length of time with customs at point of entry for immigrant visa? My husband has the visa, no criminal background or anything they should need to question about. I know obviously it’s probably dependent on arrivals as usual with customs, is it a different area than usual customs we would go to or is there a very long time to wait in any experience?

if you received your passport and visa don't worry, just know many of the embassies are no longer doing the packet for traveling to POE
it is now in computer that immigration and customs officer can see at POE in US
So I just pay it upon Poe?

Hi!
with out approval packet we have the letter stating how to pay the $220 green card processing fee on the uscis website. The website does not seem to give an option to pay online for our visa, only an I-90 if you’re renewing your green card. Any help navigating this?

I have shipped 10 boxes. Mainly clothes. I have paid 1050. You pay 50 deposit which includes delivery of boxes and then pay the rest once they have picked your boxes up. That is door to door service and by air. Boat is a bit cheaper but takes a long time. Air is 7-10 days transit time. They give you all the information about the forms to fill in which makes it a lot easier too.
Is that $1050 or £1050? Many thanks!

I am currently using Baggage Hub. All smooth so far! Excellent customer service.
What is the quote they’ve given you, if you don’t mind me asking? And how much stuff are you having shipped? We don’t need to bring any furniture, just a drum set and some boxes
-
any recommendations on best/cheapest moving companies/services? no furniture, just a drum set and few decorative things (mirror, clocks etc), clothes in suitcase if possible as we will have cats with us on the plane, less going to airport, the better.

Yes. No one ever gets the true original certificate as that stays at whatever government office stores documents in your country. By original they mean the actual document you get from the clerk, not a photocopy. What you have should suffice.
well, we were issued an original which had the judge's signature who officiated our marriage. that piece of paper is at my parent's home in Texas (my husband and i are in the UK). i do have here with me however the certified copy. so, it's possible (if they can find the original) that i can manage it, but if i can't, the certified copy from the county will do?
-
we stupidly had a photocopy of our certified copy of the marriage certificate. They asked us to courier the original, we only have the certified copy with embossed stamp from the county clerk. This will suffice (certified copy is listed as acceptable on the website under required documents for UK us embassy required documents) - right?

we have our london embassy interview monday. the latest email stating what to bring states confirmation page for DS-160, however all our email comfirmations state it was DS-260 we filled out (prior to medical exam) i'm certain we couldn't have filled out the wrong form, we just followed the prompts on the website instructions. is this a strange typographical error? DS-160 is immigrant application, DS-260 is nonimmigrant application - do we have anything we need to fix quickly??
-
hi! our courier confirmation page as far as i can tell doesn't have a bar code/instructions, it just has the name of the courier, and where the passport will be delivered to. is it meant to have a barcode or anything for them to put on the outside of an envelope? do i need to bring any envelopes for them to use to return?
-
or is just the immigrant's birth certificate? is my nationality/place of birth already proven by submitting the i-130, and i can just bring my (petitioner) passport to the interview?

No no. If you not claim anyone on your tax, then your household will be 2( you and your spouse). The household number of your dad i864 must be 3( your dad, your mom and your spouse).
thank you very much!

He will be the only join sponsor.
thank you!
for my i-864, part 5 (sponsor's household size), it adds the immigrant (my husband) and myself = 2 household members.
on my dad's i-864, part 5 (sponsor's household size), it adds the immigrant (my husband), my dad, and my mom (who fills out i-864a with my dad's i-864) = 3 household members. is this correct, or do i need to be listed on my dad's as well to = 4 household members?
Should both i-864's reflect 4 household members?

Who will be your join sponsor, your mom or dad?. If your dad is the join sponsor, then he will need i864 and your mom will need i864-a.
my dad is the sponsor. does my dad on part 1 of i-864 check that he is the only joint sponsor, or that he is the first of 2 joint sponsors? my understanding would be that i am the petitioner, my father is the only joint sponsor, and my mother's information is supplementary to his household/income information provided. is this correct?
-
for my UK husband, i fill out i-864, and my parents are co-sponsoring. Do each of my parents then fill out an individual i-864a, as they are supplementing my (petitioner) income?

no but you do need all of their documentation and financial info
perfect that's what i thought, thank you

my joint sponsors (parents) do not need to be present for our interview at the embassy, correct?
-
maybe there's a forum specifically for this, i didn't see it but please do direct me to it if this isn't the right place!
my husband (UK citizen) and i (US citizen) have been in the UK on a spouse visa for 2 years, we are in process now with our visa for him to move to the US (just have interview at UK embassy left to do).
we don't have jobs set up just yet for the US (4 months yet to go) but have been keeping our eyes peeled and putting the feelers out there - we aren't banking on having jobs/healthcare through them at the time of moving.
is ACA the best option until we do get jobs (we would rather not be uninsured for any period of time)? i don't know much about it, do we have to have been residents in our state for x number of months before being eligible? what have any of you guys done for healthcare right away in the interim?

You are correct, and the attorney is wrong. If using current/future income, it must be from a source which will continue after relocating to the US.
You will have to use assets or get a joint sponsor if you have no income which will continue after relocating to the US.
Sorry I didn’t see the first reply before replying!

This is from the actual instructions page for the I-864 from USCIS:
"You must show on this affidavit that you have enough income and/or assets to maintain the intending immigrants and the rest of your household at 125 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. By signing Form I-864, you are agreeing to use your resources to support the intending immigrants named in this affidavit, if it becomes necessary."
Thanks! Yeah I’m well aware of the form, it doesn’t specify that the income has to be the case when the beneficiary actually moves. My current UK salary will end when we move, so does that still count as an acceptable salary for USCIS? It seems to make no sense although it’s what this attorney has advised. Because, what good will my current salary do if it’s from the UK, unless they really do just look for “earning potential” - that’s my question:)
-
Hi!
im us citizen living/working in UK with UK husband. Filing DCF and have medical scheduled for 14th sept.
For the I-864, I make more than enough with my UK salary. My impression was that this would be void as will cease with relocation back to the US. My parents met with an immigration lawyer in the US yesterday who advised it did not matter where the salary was from, it’s to show your earning capacity, and that we therefore don’t need to worry about providing proof of liquid assets x 3 the difference (which we had thought amounted to $61k). Everything up to that point yesterday had made me think we had to have either a US salary or liquid assets (or a co sponsor).
Can anyone who has done this confirm if their foreign salary was acceptable even though due to end?
Also, do we need to wait until after the medical to schedule the interview?
-
should we go ahead and schedule it now, to take place a few weeks after the medical?
-
March 29th – i-130 sent off
April 3rd – notice of receipt email received
June 5th – notice of approval in post
June 11th – LND number received
July 17th – submitted DS-260
Sept 14th - medical exam - documents gathered (paperwork says 4 any size passport photos - we have 3 remaining of US size from i-130 petition application, best to save those for interview and get cheaper ones for medical?
***should we schedule interview now, before medical? or wait until after it?***
For interview:
· UK Passport/DL
· 2 color photographs (US standard sizes 2”x2”)
· Appointment letter and courier confirmation page (have not yet booked/received)
· Birth certificate
· Police certificate
· Form i-864 completed and signed – bank statements showing joint finances, pay slips from work, lease information showing co-habitation
· Fees
For medical:
· UK regulated size passport photos
· Vaccination (FYI the paperwork received once medical booked says to get patient/care summary, our GP didn't know what this was. i advised the team who books the appointments and they said the complete medical history is ok to bring as long as it's 'not 100 pages or anything')
· Medical questionnaire completed and signed
· Fees

You would still show the 12 months of statements, but also include evidence that the large deposit is an inheritance.
Ok cool thank you! And 12 months of my American bank account statements with the inheritance in for only about 2 months will be acceptable, you think?
Do you have a good source for USCIS or embassy literature on guidelines for assets do you? The instructions for I-864 were vague unless im

Social Security Card with Green Card?

my husband arrived 24th Dec and got the temporary green card stamp (good for 1 year) in his passport, and he was advised he's ok to work now with that stamp in his passport. he wasn't advised of any SSN coming our way automatically though. just to confirm - is this automatic or do we need to apply at the SSN office locally?
