Hi, I am from Dublin so we will be both going through the Consulate in Dublin. We got our NOA1 from the CSC on May 15th, so we are in the same boat, just waiting on the nod from the USCIS. My fiancé got called back to the U.S. for work back in July so we have visited back and forth since then which isn't cheap! All we can do is wait and hope. Optimism is key! Best of luck!

My fiancee and I filed for our K-1 visa at the start of the month after being together for a long time but are hoping to see each other a few times before I eventually move to the US to be with her.

 

After my lawyer advised us it should be fine, and after reading other people's experiences here, I have decided to take a week off work to visit my fiancee in the US for 10 days in September. I know of course that whether I get through customs will depend on how calmly I answer their questions, as well as how the CBP officer feels that day but i had a few questions.

 

- I chose to get an Aer Lingus flight through Dublin so that I could go through pre-check there and not have such an awfully long flight home if I do get rejected at the border. Does anybody have any experience of the Dublin pre check while in a similar situation? I have left myself a considerable (4 hour) layover in Dublin so that I have enough time if I have to be pulled aside into the interview room by CBP. 

 

- What do you advise saying when they ask "why are you coming to the U.S?" Is it advisable to instantly offer the information that I am visiting my fiancee? 

 

I will be bringing my K-1 Receipt, as well as a letter from my work stating that they are expecting me back after the vacation.

 

Is there anything else I could bring to help my case?

 

If it helps to have extra information: I was in the US from February 2016 to May 2017 on a J-1 visa.

Hi, I am living in Dublin and currently in the K-1 visa process. I visited the U.S. from Dublin shortly after we filed the visa and I had no issues. I brought my visa receipt, a letter from work, a couple of wage slips, evidence of my return flight, and bank statement to prove I had sufficient funds to support myself (I also had a dentist appointment confirmation which was obviously unnecessary!). I had all these documents in a nice neat folder ready for any questions, and the customs official commented on the weather and told me to have a safe flight! 

I am travelling again next week so I am expecting more scrutiny. I have booked more flights for Oct so I will bring my confirmation of those flights as further proof of my intent to leave the U.S. Really, I would just bring everything you have, no matter how ridiculous (see dentist appointment confirmation!) as it paints an overall picture of your intent to return to your country and be prepared to answer any questions patiently and calmly.
