  1. Hi Everyone,

I've just got approved for my AOS, so the officer told me that I'll be receiving my card in the mail within 2 weeks. My question is: Does anyone know if you could just bring the Green Card (solely) as a proof of identity to the SSA office? or do you need any other documents?

Thanks so much for your replies!

  2. hi there,

I've also applied through Las Vegas office since last May and have not received my EAD yet!

I went for my AOS interview, and got approved for my greencard. However, when I asked the officer what's going on with my EAD, he couldn't answer the question. He suggested me to abandon the EAD and just wait for my GC which will arrive in 2 weeks time. But, oh well...what a waste $180 that I've spent!

So, if I were you, I would definitely call Infopass and set up an appointment, or just ignore it and wait for your greencard, like I did. Hope that helps.

  3. Hello Everyone,

Does anyone know what will happen if once a person gets her conditional green card, can she lift her conditional status outside the US?

My husband and I are planning to go back to Switzerland by next year which means I will not be in the US when my time of removing the conditional status is up.

So I'm pretty worried that I will lose my green card in this way. My husband has dual citizenships, thus it will not be a problem for us to come back to the US in the future. I'm afraid I will have to do the whole K3 process again, should we decide to come back to the US in the future. :(

Thanks so much for all your advice!

  4. I know how anxious you are waiting for the EAD. Well, yours is still better. I've been waiting since May and I've called them and all they said was to wait for answer in about 30-45 days!

    It's just unbelievable.....

Maybe you want to try contacting your Congressman? I did, however, all they said was the USCIS is still processing your request. Duh!

So now, I'm just waiting for my AOS instead. :D

  5. Thanks Kim&James,

I've got my medical exam last April. I guess I'll just have to send the I-693a then.

Another question: does it mean that the the orginal I-693 form WAS in the BROWN envelope we gave at POE? I wonder......since we only need to submit the I-693a.

Gee, I wish they had really told us what kind of documents were inside that brown envelope. LOL!

It depends on when your original medical ran out. ie 12 months from having the overseas one done. If you are out of that timeframe then yes you will need to redo and send both with your AOS papers.

If you only need the supplement then just have your vaccinations up to date and provide the current info to the CS for copying onto the I693A.

  6. Hi Mamamia,

you might want to check with the US Embassy where you're doing your DCF if they need a translated copy of the police certificate or not. Based on my experience, you don't have to translate any documents if they are in the main language of the country in which you process your immigration documents. I come from Indonesia and I had to get a police certificate from Switzerland, and since I was doing the immigration process also in Switzerland, thus I was not obliged to get it translated.

    Hope that helps!

Hi! I've lived in Germany for 3 years and now I'm doing a DCF. Already applied for it via courrier. I will need a traslation from Germany to English. Can anyone help posting a translation if you have one. Thank you very much in advance.
  7. Hii All,

Today's simple question (LOL) : Does a K3 visa holder who had her medical exam done prior to coming to the US need to submit BOTH I-693 and I-693A along the AOS packet? or ONLY either forms?

I'm quiet confused with the whole medical exam process, hopefully don't have to pay the hefty price tag of another medical exam.

Thank you all and have a great Memorial Day Weekend!

  8. Hi StormnRolly,

Do you have the link or details of the CS in Austin, TX whose fee is USD 10, please?

Thanks so much for your help!

    Angelique

Did she have a medical done there with a CS yet, as you may well know her medical is good for a year. Usually they give you a copy of your vaccination supplement at your medical. She can most definatly get her titres or vaccinations done by her doctor back home or in the states (a CS may charge more for the vaccinations). The Supplemental form to I-693 must be completed by a cival surgeon in the states though. If she has proof that she has had all vaccines that she needs you may take these to a local CS (some will try to charge you lots of money or insist that you need a full medical done) or send them to the CS in Austin, TX that transfers for $10.00. Some people have not turned in this form and either get a RFE or there is no problems for them. It is up to you. I do not see any problem with filing your AOS as soon as your wife arrives. As long as you have everything that is required by the government. Best wishes,

    Kristina

  9. Hello Everyone,

Could anyone link me to a website (which works) to download the I-864 form please? I've tried so many times to download through the VJ's example forms and also USCIS website to no avail.

I hope it's only my computer that doesn't work. I'm afraid if the USCIS is in the middle of adjusting the fee, therefore they withdraw all the current forms.

    Thanks so much!!!!!!!!

  10. Hii Everyone,

I know that from the guide given regarding how to apply Social Security Number if you are coming with a K3 visa, you will have to first apply the EAD.

But, I wonder if it is possible to just skip the EAD part and go ahead with the AOS, and once I got my Conditional Green Card, I could just apply SSN without any problems?

I've tried to look for more details on the SSA website regarding K3 visa applying SSN, apparently they don't have any.

Thanks so much for your help!

  11. I read on the General Immigration posting (look under "News") that the bill would still allow USC to sponsor their parents but not their siblings...

    Please help,

I just applied for my wife using the I-130 a week a go, I haven’t received anything yet,

Now I have thought to apply for my Dad, (my brother is applying for my mother), would that be possible? and if yes, is it going to slow my wife’s visa process?

    Any help is appreciated

    Thanks a lot in advance

  12. Hi Everyone,

I came to the US by K3 visa (just a couple days ago), and now am going to do the AOS process.

I'm a bit confused regarding the medical exam.

Does anyone know whether a K3 would have to go through another medical exam? I've got my medical exam and passed it when I did my K3, however, I didn't get any medical check form from the doctor. I believe she sent everything to the Embassy directly.

I don't think I wanna do the whole vaccinnations process all over again :crying:

Thanks so much for your help!!!

  13. hello,
    1) My wife has heard from several doctors/friends in her area that getting all her vaccinations at once can be bad for her immune system. Does anyone know if this is true?

(I've asked this to 2 doctors, one when I was Indonesia and the other one when I had to do the medical examination for K3 visa in Switzerland, and both said it's true. That's why they were very cautious in giving me the needed vaccination. Thank goodness, I didn't have to get a lot of vaccinnations. )

    2) Also, she may have trouble getting her records of previous vaccinations. Are there any vaccinations that would be harmful to get again even if she already had them some time in the past?

(According to my doctor, it's not harmful to get another same vaccination, but it's just a waste of time and money. Why do you need to get same vaccinnes when your body has developed an antibody to a certain disease, right?)

    3) If several different clinics have records of different vaccinations, is this ok? Or do they all need to be from the same clinic?

(Yes, it's fine to get records from different clinics. No, they don't need to be from the same clinic. In my case, I had from 1 clinic which took a blood sample test and checked for all the vaccinnations I have had)

    4) Does it cause delays or other problems to get missing vaccinations at the time of the medical exam or should we make sure to do them ahead of time?

(You definitely need to get it ahead of time in order to save time and money. The problem if you don't get your vaccination record upon your medical exam is that they will need to take a blood test which will take some more time to process your medical statement. I know this for sure!! )

Thanks for any help on these nagging questions!

    hope that helps!

    angelique

Thanks, angelique! Very helpful. As to why I asked about getting the same vaccination over...she's just not sure her clinics even have records of all the vaccinations she had, so we may accidentally get one over. But we'll first try to have a blood sample test and see if they can figure out what she's missing. I'm just curious...could the results of this blood test be enough proof that she has had the vaccinations? Probably just wishful thinking! Thanks again for the help!

No prob, anytime. Based on my experience, the result of the blood test taken by the doctor in Indonesia along with a checklist which stated (and signed by the doctor) all the vaccinations i was immuned to, was sufficient for the medical exam I took in Switzerland. Apparently, the Swiss doctor needed a statement or medical record which lists all the vaccinnations you already have to submit to the US Embassy. I remember that there was someone in the forum who posted a checklist of which vaccinations needed and not needed for different age categories. It helped me a lot! Perhaps someone could help here with the link????

  15. Hi Everyone,

I'm so glad that I could move to the second round of the whole US immigration process. Now that I have my K3 visa, it's time to go to another journey (more waiting to come? )

Can anyone let me know if it is Ok for me to put my Married Name on my EAD application form instead of my maiden name, since my K3 visa is with the maiden name? or since my K3 was in my maiden, thus I still have to continue with the same name? If so, how can I do a name change for all my immigration process?

I would like to have my SSN and green card later with my Married Name too.

Thanks so much in advance.......gosh how I really love this forum!

  16. Dear All,

Finally, after a long waiting of 7 months, we got the K3 visa in our hand!

I had my interview on last Thursday, May 3, in Bern (which is 16 hours by plane from Indonesia!) and picked up the visa on the next day. At first, I was doubting that it would get approved, since the lady (she's not the Consul though) who we submitted all the documents on the first window counter was making a statement like " Oh, this is not a Marriage Certificate, this is a Family Certificate, I am not sure if the Consul will accept it" when I handed her our original Marriage Certificate. Thank God, the Consul knew what he was doing and when I said that this is the only Certificate we got from the Swiss government, he nodded and told me "yes, you are right, this is the Marriage Certificate you need."

Anyway, the waiting game is over (at least for now).....and just keep courage everyone! Thanks for all the supports that have been given for these past months........

  17. Thank you Yodrak, that clarifies a lot. Do you have any suggestions on how long after I apply the EAD, should I go for the AOS then? And also I wonder what will state on the EAD? Will it mention a specific expiration date though, since it follows the duration of a K-visa's status?

    Angelique,

A person who applies for EA on the basis of being an applicant for adjustment of status gets EA and an EAD valid for 1 year. But a K-visa person who applies for EA on the basis of their K status recieves an EAD that is valid for the duration of their status. Useless for a K1, but great for a K3.

A visa's period of validity is not the same thing as the visa holder's period of allowed stay (period of status) in the USA. The visa designation and the status designation may use the same term, but a visa and status are not the same thing.

    Yodrak

    Dear VJers,

Could anyone let me know if there are any specific advantages for a K3 to apply EAD prior to applying AOS, instead of applying both at the same time?

I've also heard that a K3's EAD would be valid as long as the K3's visa expiration date. Is that true?

Thanks so much for all the great help.

    Angelique

  18. Inside packet 3 there are: (at least in mine, perhaps different consulates give different ones?)

    1. Checklist of items needed to be presented during the interview, which you will have to send back to the Embassy along with a filled DS-230 form.

    2. DS 230 form

    3. DS 156 form

    4. Medical Exam Instructions

    5. Other fees instructions.

Mine was sent to my husband's address in the US ,which is a bit weird, since we didn't inquire such. Looking at your case, this maybe the best option for you to receive the packet, instead being sent to your wife. You might want to ask the Consulate if this can be done.

All the best to both of you.

  19. Based on firsthand experience, they will definitely require your spouse to have the interview back in India. My case is pretty similar to yours. I live in Jakarta, Indonesia, but we got married in Switzerland, thus, I will have to attend my interview (this coming May) in Bern,Switzerland. I've asked them to make any exceptions, but went to no avail........

    hope that helps...

  20. Thanks Alohaspirit,

but i forgot to include that my I-130 has been approved on the same date as my I-129F. I'm just curious if that has any effects or not????? :D

    Dear All,

I'm still waiting for my K3 visa interview which is set for this coming April. However, I'd like to know whether I'll have any problems travelling in and out of the US once I enter the US on my K3 visa.

I will need to attend my sister's wedding in Tahiti in the month of July, but, on the other hand I would want to process my AOS as soon as I enter the US, which I plan to be in May (once my visa is granted).

My question is, can I go to travel outside the US while my AOS is in process? if not, is there any way to do the travelling thing while it's in process?

Thanks so much for the help!

Yes, you can travel outside the US as the K-3 visa is a multiple entry visa. You can travel before you file AOS but I advise you to file AOS first before traveling for in good faith.
