  1. So we are planning to book tickets relatively soon for an 9 day european cruise since my husband has just received his 10 yr permanent resident card. However, he still has his Egyptian passport as we cannot apply for US citizenship quite yet. Does he need a travel visa for all of the ports of call for our trip - we are going to 4 countries? Thanks.

  2. I had originally bought his ticket online with alitalia air and that is how we got into so much trouble. For this flight arriving TODAY I called and confirmed it with the airline, then sent him the money and he went and paid for the ticket at the counter there in egypt. I would strongly recommend doing it this way - and FYI, we did not get him a roundtrip ticket.

alright so now...it is really real! he is on the plane and will be arriving tomorrow at approx 1430! OMG, I have so much nervous energy...too bad i did all the cleaning / errands last week when he was supposed to get here on monday :D Thanks for all your support!

I am happy for you :luv:

hope you have an awesome reunion

I am curious did you buy his ticket online ??

I am doing the same thing for my husband and wounder if it will be a problem for us too

  3. Well just as I suspected...the people in Cairo are A$$H*&ES, they would not let him board unless I was flying with him or he had my physical credit card in hand...I asked if I could fax to him a copy with my signature...man at the alitalia stated NO! Now after 2.5 hrs of running around...my fiancee has now missed his flight...not coming tomorrow...

i am in a state of shock right now...very sad...i cannot tell you... :crying:

  4. Finally coming tomorrow...hopefully he can get on the plane in Cairo and doesn't have any problems. G-d I hope there are no problems. I keep having this nightmare that I go to the airport and he is not there...he is still in Cairo arguing with the airline officials...something about this stupid transit visa / no round-trip ticket...

  5. So just an update...

I called the airline again yesterday for the 4th time and they said now that he does NOT need a transit visa. Then I had him go to the Italian embassy in Cairo just to be extra sure and they told him that he does not need a visa either...I really hope that all of this is true but every time I talk to someone it is a different story...very frustrating!

  6. I AM SO ANGRY RIGHT NOW...I don't understand this...so we booked my fiancee's flight for 23rd July on Alitalia (which happens to go from Cairo to Milan, Milan to Rome, Rome to OH and then OH to SEA). This was the only flight that they had at the time so we booked it, no problem. Now come to find out that because he will be connecting through 2 cities in Italy he DOES need a TRANSIT VISA! I don't know if any of you know anything about this. I don't know if we have enough time to get this stupid visa for a place that he will not even be leaving the airport or there greater than 2 hours!!! :help: Any one have any advice??

  7. Thanks for all the well wishes...so here is exactly what I did. I followed all the instructions that the were listed in the VJ guide. Once I recieved notification for the USCIS that we were approved and our case was forwarded to the NVC I emailed the Cairo embassy asking for them to open a provisional file for my fiance and send him the packet 3 (I included all of my info and my fiance's address). They agreed and he had the packet 3 within 1-2 weeks. We then sent everything in very quickly and then in approx 3 weeks we got notice that we were scheduled for an interview. In the meantime, about once a week or so I sent an email to the Cairo embassy letting them know that we had sent in our packet 3 and when should we expect an interview. We received an invitation / packet 4 about 10 days later. BTW we went over all the questions that people had posted here on VJ to prepare for the interview. My fiance was asked when we plan on getting married and he told them June...he was asked this multiple times and said the same thing. He was then told 1-2 months he will receive his visa. So once the interview was over I then sent another email out to the embassy confirming that we were planning on getting married in June and all the responses were the same as everyone has posted on here. I kept emailing them every week saying the same things -- we were told that we would get our visa in 1-2 months and if there was anything I could do to speed up the process to let me know. I also called the DOS about once a week or so, probably more like every 2 weeks in between emailing the embassy. I don't know if this helped but so far so good...don't know if this will work with you but good luck!

ps. we did have an age gap but not to large about 7 years and neither of us have any kids / issues in the past - never been married.

    questions...ask away!

  8. My fiance got THE call from the embassy today. He is to send his passport by DHL to the embassy and they will send it back with the visa!!! Unbelievable. I am holding onto my excitement as I am sure that something is going to go wrong...Just wanted to share.

P.S. I know that I have been a silent poster but thanks for all your support!

  9. Hey anyone know anything about the flight situation? I thought that we would have a harder time if we booked a one way ticket and just easier to book a round trip...is that true? I would much rather book a one way ticket as it is significantly cheaper.

  10. So...I thought that it was good news but my fiance didn't seem to think so...I am afraid to be happy at this point as you never know with Cairo. I really hope that this is all completed soon...

Apparently the interviewer asked my fiance about 2-3 times when we are planning on getting married and tried to confuse him when he asked where we and when we met but each time he answered the questions he said the same thing. We have travel plans in June so I really hope that we get the visa by then. I am still going to email the embassy to see what is going on as I have been getting good results...for example I emailed them right after I found out our stuff was approved in order to have them send the packet 3 to my fiance and it worked, also I emailed them right after we sent in all of our packet 3 stuff in order to try to grant my fiance an interview quickly and that worked too so... maybe if I send them a follow up email I will get a better idea of when I can book the flight.

    Thanks for all your comments/advice...

  11. Okay...here are the results...you let me know what we should think...

fiance was asked a bunch of questions to include where we met, how we met, what I do, when we plan to get married, write our names - all of which he did correctly, he also showed them the pictures of us together as well as emails and letters we have sent to each other...the man looked through all of our stuff and then was apparently going to say congratulations - instead he only said part of it congrats and then stopped, he gave my fiance his passport and said that there would be no more interviews. The embassy will call him in 1-2 months, at that time he should send his passport by DHL back to the embassy...hmmm....he also asked the security guy at the embassy what to think and he said that he got the visa. What do you think??? Let me know...I plan on emailing the embassy and asking them to clarify.

  12. Thanks to all of you for your helpful tips and comments...the interview is tomorrow and I have never been so nervous in my life. :( I mean I have had some moments in life but I do believe this is the most intense. Imagining some old man / woman behind a desk looking at all of our paperwork, looking at my fiance after asking the most asinine questions and then hopefully stamping approved on our paperwork... Enshallah it will work out for the best...
