So sorry this happened to you. This happened to us, too, in Chicago in November. They would not do the N-400 interview because the I-751 was still pending. We were called to an I-751 interview in December, and it was approved. Card received. But she's still waiting for a new N-400 interview date.

Hi, I am going to have an interview soon. A little upset and not sure what will happen in the interview. Could you please share your experience? What kind of questions they asked? Thanks so much!

    FINALLY!!!!!!

I'll share details later when I get a chance, but just wanted to share the news that after the longest wait of my life and the hassle of an interview, I've finally been approved!

My best to all those still waiting that you receive the news you've been waiting for soon.

So I had my Interview yesterday. I still don't know why I was selected for an interview, perhaps it was completely at random, but most likely it was because they felt I didn't supply enough evidence along with my application. But then why didn't they simply give me an RFE instead? Why an interview? I guess I'll never know. The interviewer certainly didn't tell me why I was selected. Anyway, here's how it went:

My wife and I were called into the interviewer’s office and I was asked my name, address and date of birth. I was asked to present ID and was photographed and my fingerprints scanned to prove my identity. My wife and I were then asked to confirm some information about ourselves as she checked off the same information on our application.

The only questions I was asked were along the lines of ‘where/when did you meet?’, ‘have you ever been arrested?’, ‘are you still married?’. Basic stuff really. Then she wanted to see any evidence we had that we hadn’t already submitted. I gave her my health insurance/dental plan information on which my wife is included. We also gave her a printout of photographs of us together on various nights out/gym activities/parties we’ve thrown etc. When I tried to give her evidence that had already been submitted with the original application she wasn’t interested and didn’t want to see them saying ‘I already have that’.

The whole interview took about ten to fifteen minutes. She then told me she was not able to make a decision then and there but I would be contacted by mail in about two weeks. If I am approved a new card will be mailed to me in a week or two after that.

Here’s the interesting part. She said that as it had been so long since I attended my biometrics appointment last year that my fingerprints would have to be taken again as they had expired! How can fingerprint information expire?! I was then sent to the same place I attended my biometrics appointment last year to have my fingerprints taken again.

So another couple of weeks and hopefully I’ll have an answer. She really didn’t make it obvious one way or the other whether I’ll be approved, but I felt it went OK so don’t see any reason why they wouldn’t approve us. But then again, with this process, anything could happen!

Hi, thanks so much for your sharing. So you didn't get a RFE but an interview directly? That's interesting... I am waiting for an interview since September, 2017 as they were not satisfied with my RFE...

I haven't heard anything back yet. It has been almost 19 months since I applied. Very upset and anxious to get an interview. I am in New York, maybe that's why it is so delayed as the caseload is horrible here.

I actually just graduated and my husband helped me pay the tuition. The tuition is so expensive that we didn't fly to have holidays at all. But we get some daily photos, joint account(debit and credit), lease, 401k, health insurance. I don't know what else I can supply in my interview, and when i will have the interview.

Please could you or anyone had interview share more information about the questions or materials you submitted for the interview? THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Hey - caught me up working late. Aha.

firstly - take some deep breaths. The worst decisions are made when you are panicking.

You said you received a letter saying your case was under active examination.

Thats new to me. Is that a thing?

You then said - as soon as the interview is determined.

Forgive me, but I am maybe assuming English isn't your first language - you are coming across really well, but getting mixed details. Lets figure this out.

If you were asked to attend an interview, that would be a very straightforward letter with a date and time and location to come to.

Did you receive a letter with that? Or a letter saying that an interview was going to be scheduled and you should wait for further info?

Sounds very strange. Maybe someone else on here has seen this, but I haven't.

If you are unsure, call the help line and ask to speak to a tier 2 officer who can advise you on what your case status is and what is expected of you at the moment.

When you call, you will speak to a fembot who reads a script. Tell her you need to speak to a Tier 2 officer. She'll transfer you.

Sorry not very helpful, - just my opinion -  but lots of super knowledgable guys and girls on here, and if you share some more details, people will be willing to share and help.

Thank you for your reply. I requested once for out of thr processing time about 20 days ago. I just got the letter stating that my case is under examination. But also, they are going to schedule an interview for me. Once they determine the date of interview, they will mail all these information to me. Anyone got same letter as me? Many thanks!

  5. Hi guys,

I filed the request for out of normal processing time. I filed i-751 on May, 2016, and RFE on May, 2017. And responded to RFE on June, 2017. I waited until 20 days ago and filed the request. Today I just received letter from USCIS said my application is under active examination. As soon as the interview is determined, I will be notified by mail. It takes too long for me to wait. But I still feel upset. How long will it take to schedule an interview? I have included all supporting documents in my application and I really don't know what else I can present in the interview. Super upset and don't what to prepare. I am in NYC. Please give me some advice! Thank you so much!

It means they are probably overworked, underpaid, not trained properly. I know this as I recently contacted the USCIS and even a Tier 2 did not know the answers to my questions, so reflecting I don't blame that person I blame the limited training. It's like take over this job, learn copious amounts of information in a company that does not give time out for that.

I worked for an international bankingcompany, the same applied, you wanted to learn the answers to the customers questions, however you needed to answer phone queries with limited knowledge and little time to answer,  nor research anything.  You needed to be there to answer frustrated,, angry customers questions.

Unfortunately, it''s the business model of modern times, not what happened 50 years ago, but 50 years ago we were not  a society  as demanding as we are now. Basically, we did not  ask for  24/7 attention, nor did we have access to the internet to gather information and use that to contest decisions!

However, a great business model would properly train their employees fulyl, give them time out to research queries, but time is money and at the end of the day, the USCIS is  a money making enterprise and not primarily under  government control.

In answer to your question and to  put it in Layman's terms.... No you will  probably not receive an interview, it just means you are a pawn in a very chaotic soul sucking,  business environment,  which SEEMS to make lots of money. The only person/people to blame within this equation are the hierarchy, the directors, the board of managers, the investors, the "Fat Cats", the politicians etc, etc, etc and the reason why is they make lots of money, that does not reflect their service. Their customers are not happy with the service and I doubt the employees are happy either!

Thanks for your replies. I understand that they have a high volume of tasks with limited employees. But I have no clue how long it takes. Some people get it within 1 month after they sent RFE, but some of us have to wait up to 6 months. That's ridiculous! I woulf prefer they give me a deadline or tell me I have to go to interview...

Yes, I got an RFE on May 9, 2017. Sent it in on June 26 and today received an email notification that my card was being produced. I guess that means it was approved. My case also processed at VSC. Good luck, hope you hear something soon!

Hi, how to have an email notification? I kept checking online status and it is still the same. They don't update any info online. Thank you so much for your sharing and congrats!

  9. Hi folks!

USCIS received my I-751 application on May 2,2016. It is VSC. I received my RFE on May 15. I am going to mail my documents tomorrow. And hopefully USCIS receives my RFE by June 23, 2017. I mail them our rent lease, joint account statements, credit card statements, my master degree(we lived in different cities because of my master degree), his new job offer(he is going to move to my city soon), our cellphone calls records(we called each others when we were apart in two cities ), gas and electricity billings, tax filings statement and some photos. We don't have kids yet.

I am really worried about the RFE and am not sure how long it takes to process. Anyone has RFE or the similar situation could give me some advice? Thanks a lot!

  10. Hi all!

Just want to check guys from NYC. I got my NOA on May 2, 2016. But until now, I didn't  hear anything back. The online status kept the same for 373 days. It is more than 12 months. So frustrating that we have a family trip overseas over the summer and I couldn't  book any tickets now. Anyone from New York got approved? Thanks and Congrats to anyone have been approved!
