Why isn't her Philippine passport still valid? Nothing to do with getting US citizenship to invalidate a foreign passport. It is in the sense that she no longer can enter or leave the USA with it as her Philippine passport could only be used for that with her green card that was surrendered. As a US citizen she must have a US passport to enter or leave this country. But if traveling to and from any other of the 200 some odd countries, her Philippine passport is just as good as it was before she became a US citizen.

With some countries, if they look at your US passport and see that your place of birth is in that country, they won't let you in unless you keep and maintain a passport for that country.

The good old Department of State, they do trust their 9,000 some odd agents to make sure the photograph you are supplying is of you, but don't trust them to make a copy of your US Naturalization Certificate.

She won't be able to travel outside the US, then re-enter without the US passport since she had to surrender her green card. Even with just a US passport, she can still enter the Philippines and just show our marriage certificate that was issued in the Philippines and get a 1-year balikbayan visa.

She can still get dual citizenship by applying at the Philippines consulate. I know that with some countries, once you become a citizen of another country, they can lose citizenship in their country of birth.

I am officially a U.S. citizen.... I have even applied for a passport - $225 to have it expedited is a ridiculous price, by the way!

Congratulations. I know that's a steep price to have the passport expedited.

Congrats to her - must be tough to have your home passport and nationaity invalidated. She has burned her boats I guess so it's onwards and upwards and no looking back !

Actually, she can apply for dual citizenship with the Philippine consulate and reinstate that passport. The closest consulate is in New York. The Philippines allows former citizens to reacquire Philippine citizenship.

However, she's applying for her US passport early next week in case she needs to travel.

Yesterday was my spouse's oath ceremomy at the Federal Courthouse in Erie, PA. Glad we didn't have to travel 2 1/2 hours to Pittsburgh or 1 1/2 hours to Buffalo, NY. She did the biometrics in Buffalo, NY, then her interview at Pittsburgh, PA. We;re only 10 minutes from the Federal court in Erie, PA..

For the ceremony, 23 people were scheduled to be sworn in, but there were only 21 present. Apparently, two didn't show up. The USCIS person was calling out the names of the two missing people. All they asked of her was her oath letter and green card, then she signed the certificate. The USCIS person advised everyone that they'll need to go to the post office to apply for a US passport and take the original certificate.

Once everyone signed the certificates, the actual oath ceremony was only about 40 minutes. They had a color guard, three judges spoke as well as a few others. A judge administerer the oath to all 21 people present at once, where they all stood and raised their right hand. After the oath, everyone walked up to the podium to get their certificates and shake hands with the judges. Just about everyone there was taking pictures. The local newspaper was there and took a group photo.

After the ceremony,they offed refreshments and food. We stuck around for that and chatted with some of the other new US Citizens.

My spouse went to her oath ceremony yesrterday in Erie, PA. All they asked from her was her green card and the oath letter with the questions on the back answered. Now that she is a US Citizen, her Philippines passport is no longer vaild. She'll be applying for a US passport soon.

We received the oath ceremony letter a few dauys ago for the spouse's naturalization ceremony. The oath ceremony is scheduled for November 12 in Erie, PA. It's great that we only need to go to the local US Court here in Erie, PA for the oath ceremony. It sure beats driving 2 1/2 hours to Pittsburgh.

We're almost there. The wife did her interview at the Pittsburgh office yesterday and passed the tests and the interview. On the form that she was given, it was checked that the application has been approved. All that's left now is to wait for the letter to find out when and where the oath ceremony will be. Unfortunately, they don't have oath ceremonies on the same day at the Pittsburgh office. So we're almost there.

We have our interview scheduled at the Pittsburgh, PA office on September 16 at 2:30 p.m.. So I'm assuming with this late of an interview, I can't possibly have the oath ceremony the same day. The letter informs us not to arrive more than 30 minutes ahead of the scheduled appointment.

It would be nice to avoid an extra 2 hour trip for the ceremony, but it doesn't look like it will happen. Unles others that have been to Pittsburgh had the oath ceremony the same day as the interview, I would like to know.

We also got a RFE from VSC in June. It took about 4 weeks after we sent the info for the RFE to get the I-751 approved.

Hi all,

what's the best way besides not being "that" expensive to send the docs by USPS to the immigration office.

At the post office they suggested me to send it by "Certified Mail Receipt" along with a little greenish little card, that comes back to you signed by who got the docs at the destination address. Two years ago I remeber I send the docs by "Signature Confirmation Receipt" so I remember I checked on line when they got the package & the name who signed for receipt at the destination address.

So, for your personal experience what do you suggest?

You could use the USPS Priority Mail. That way, you get a tracking number and you can track your package online.

UPS and FedEx are a little more expensive than Priority Mail, but you can also track the package and see a signature of the receipt online.

The same thing happened tu us with VSC. We just sent everything we previously sent with any updated info and got IRS tax transcripts for the past 3 years tax returns. We got approved about 4 weeks later.

The USCIS could have lost some of your stuff or did one of those random RFEs. Just send the response to the RFE and chances are you could get approved. Worst case scenario for now would be an interview with both spouses.

Did the USCIS cash your check or money order?

Do you have proof of delivery, such as a tracking number of the package and the name of the person who signed for it?

If you do, then make an infopass appointment to get a stamp in your passport.

The list is quite reasonable. A few more photos won't hurt. Also, try to make sure you've covered all of the last two years (ie all tax returns together not just most recent, utility bills from every couple of months since you've been here etc etc)

For your joint tax returns, I highly suggest tax transcripts from the IRS instead of copies of tax returns. We got a RFE because we just sent copies of our tax returns, but did send transcripts with the RFE and eventually got approved.

If you have life insurance policies that show each other as the primary beneficiary, that helps too.

You're approved. Congratulations are in order. Now you just wait for thr GC to arrive in the mail.

Finally, we're approved for our I-751. We sent in the same info we originally submitted, but with updated info and tax transcripts instead of copies of our joint tax returns. It was 4 weeks from the time VSC got our response to the RFE and the e-mail stating card production has been ordered.

Next step, which can be as early as August 1, is to apply for citizenship. Hoping all the rest of you waiting on VSC get approvals soon.

What is the I-865 form for??

That is the sponsor's change of address from. The USC spouse that filed the I-864 must mail that when he/she moves.

That form can be downloaded off the USCIS web site.
