What a relief for me today.
After so many days of calling the Post Office to track my package, now the package finally received at the INS this morning. It took over them (USPS) over a week for them to send my package from Diamond Bar, CA to Laguna Niguel, CA ( 1 hours of drive). Maybe next time I will use UPS or Fedex instead of this service.

You have to remember one thing, having a wedding in Vietnam is still cheaper then in the state. Plus you got a beautiful wife, dont' be so cheap.

Try savingcall dot com - it costs around 3.7cents to land line. They are really good and you can print detail call logs from their website. I used them since 2006 till now. Give it a shot. I used to have a $750 phone bill in one month before
Other method to save money. Get vonage and bring the device back to VN. Now your cost will be lower.

This is a separate question.
My wife wants to be certain that in returning to VN for a 3 week visit she does not get stuck there. I think she only needs her passport for entry & green card to leave.
She has read confusing stuff on the internet & wonders if she needs a special visa of some sort to return. Does VN have additional requirements like that ???

Long time no see my friend! If Thuy's VN passport has not expired yet, she can use that to enter VN. Use the Green Card to re-enter the US. That what i am doing for my wife. We're leaving to VN tonite.
Good luck. Try to book your ticket through a small travel agency. You will get a better deal then from online. They will take care of your VIsa for you. Mine is included with the ticket. Do it seperate, it costs only 30 bux. -
Well looks like I could be in for another long wait, the Embassy is close Monday - Thursday next week so it might be the following week until I hear anything about the paperwork. I am not super happy right now.....
.....She was originally going to be here next week now its looking like 3 more weeks at best.. The stress is starting to wear on me 8 months already........ 
Brian, you had forgotten that you are in the waiting game? Be patient my friend! Good thing will come to good people. Plus you are in the Tet Season, let your fiancee enjoy her last Tet with her friends and family. Now, it is a good time for you to prepare your place before your lovely fiancee arrived. Good Luck!

So the USCIS has changed the I-134 instructions saying you don't need it notarized. But on the HCM consulate website it says notarized I-134 ... anyone know about this?
Also, if you guys don't know, do you think it would it be too pestering if I emailed the consulate and asked this question?

You need to have it notarized or else you will regret it. :=) Make sure have to have your bank verified and give you a summarize letter of your account for the past year. 3 years of Tax return transcript. Goto IRS website and request for the past 3 yrs. They will either fax it to you or send to you by snail mail. HCM consulate want to make sure that you can able to support your love one.

Yes, we went through the same thing last year. It seems as though processing times have increased and increased--despite a tripling of the filing fees. Last year it was just the CSC that seemed to be taking forever. This year it looks like both centers have substantially longer processing times than they did several years ago.
When we first started checking into this thing, it seemed like it was maybe 5-6 months from filing to visa (if there were no problems). Now it seems it's more like a year. Hang in there.
The worse thing for my case, can't talk to the life person and need to make the internet schedule and wait a few weeks to see them. End up with a stupid answer. Sometimes, it will help if you email your regional congressman to step in. For my case, I emailed them couple times with no response back. But few weeks later, my wife got approve for her Green Card. Try all the free resources you can get before paying money to those Ahole lawyers.

Technically, this probably belongs under Starting Life in the U.S., but I think the message is possibly more important here.
I just realized a few days ago that for the last 7 months, Mai didn't know about our 911 emergency system. It never occurred to me to explain it, because every grade school child knows how to call 911 if they need help, right?
Don't be stupid like me and forget to tell your newly-arrived spouse about how and when to call 911. And probably when NOT to.
Hey, it is a good idea to post it here too for the newly arrived people too
1. Make a list of numbers to called just incase of emergency and posted on your refrigerator
2. Maps to local area - such as Hospital, Library, Market, Drugs Store
3. Bus Location (if the wife don't know how to drive yet)
4. etc. (people can add in more)
Make sure tell her not to call 911 when you come home late for an hour
(cuz tired of seeing the wife just need sometimes on his own ) -

Hmmm, should I take the bait or not? I'll only nibble. I can't help it if I dislike Saigon immensely. My wife hates Saigon much more than I do--she just doesn't know as many colorful words as I do (in English). And the truth is the truth. That hospital is a very, very dirty place. How else can I say it? I'm sure the other one couldn't be any worse, and I hope it's better.
IOM got better services and cleaner, anyway just be nice in the wording.

Many thanks. I knew she wanted to get the visa and go straight to the airport and fly here but asked her to stay for Tet one last time for a long time and have fun with friends and family. At the time I planned on coming myself and flying back with her. I talked with her Uncle today and she wants to fly here on her own to me. I did find out that she would not be flying alone though. There are friends of the family there now and one cousin and they are flying back to Houston after Tet and she was going to fly back with them and they said they would help her all the way. I am still uneasy and all and feel that I should go get my fiancee.
Like I said before she has to come down to earth soon I hope and we can talk this through more. Her Uncle is saying that it is Vietnamese custom to save money and she saw no reason for me to come when she can come by herself. Also she told one Aunt that I came to visit her on my own so that she wanted to come to be the one that came to me. All I can do is wait and play this all by ear.
Luckytxn, It is good to hear that she is not coming to the US by herself. On other hand, she wants you to save your money. Save that money for the Honeymoon trip.
You just have to play it out I know you are eager to bring her here with you. Been there before too Now, it is a good time to get your place ready for her arrival. Enjoy your last minutes of freedom of being alone and do things that you wanted. Good luck on your Journey! -

Unfortunately, my wife's family does not have internet (nor a working computer, for that matter, which probably explains the "no internet" thing.
So in the meantime, we go with Startec, which as a 5.5 cents / min rate to land lines and 9.9 cents / min rate to cell phones. The rates actually just decreased, so I have to call them to find out how to switch to the new rate. (This is just a regluar, old-fashioned long distance plan tied to your home phone.)
Startec also provides a 1-800 number that you can call from your cell. Then you get a message prompting for a phone number to call. So to your cell carrier, you're just making a "continental US" call, using your regular minutes, and you can call internationally and get Startec's rate billed to your home phone. I never used it to call my wife when she was in Vietnam, but she's used it to call her family now that she's here. Very convenient!
You should try savingcall.com. Much cheaper only 4.7 cents to land line and 7.7 cents to mobile. You can print your phone logs.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but you can sign up for vonage, then send the vonage box back to your love ones. They will need internet(ADSL), which is pretty cheap in Vietnam. 30 bucks a month, unlimited calling, since they will have your local area code and number. This is what I did with my wife. I would call her about once a day using SavingCall for about 30 minutes to and hour, then I would switch and call the vonage number and talk as long as I want.
hehe, smart man! Actually there was a thread that i started back in 2006 about vonage service. Just use Vonage as long as you can, and Vonage do have a record of all your calls. So save your money on the phone card, unless she not at home and you have to call her cell
Damn, i still got like 30 bux on saving call like a year now. Did not even touch it. Just call the vonage line. You can also call Vonage to get a discount on your service. For unlimited minutes plan at $24.99, they will discount it down to $14.99. Just try to call and ask them for the discount, or else you will switch to TMobile @ home for $10 a month. They will do it for you.
