I've heard it's really difficult to get an InfoPass appointment for LA and that many drive to further offices to get an appointment. That might be a solution for you.

If you need the I551, you can try to schedule the InfoPass appointment and ask for the I551 under special circumstances, but I believe it's at their discretion. If you bring proof of travel, such as airfare, I've heard of those being signed off on 60 days in advance.

Your Infopass must be at the location where you live. Make sure to bring a copy of your AR-11 to the infopass appointment.

LA office appointment is hard to get but not impossible.

You just have to try and try and try and try until you are able to.

Try different zip codes (Los Angeles Zip Codes) and try at different times of the day and for several days.

You just have to try again and again and again.

I was able to schedule two different infopass appointments in LA this year.

The guy controlling documents was very strict about only letting in people living in the Los Angeles area, luckily we had our AR-11 which was enough proof that we live in LA.

I would not recommend driving to other office until you have exhausted your attempts to get an appt in the LA office because they may just not let you in at other locations.

Thank you both. I'm going to try to get an infopass appointment at LA office when time comes in May. Hopefully I can get one by providing the documents that you suggested. Now getting that appointment would be extremely difficult... but I guess I just have to try. Thank you both.

  2. Hi all,

My wife has GC that expired on 7/10/17 with NOA extending the legal status by 1 year. The problem is that she needs to be with her family in Korea for 4 months between May and September.

Based on my initial search, it seems like she needs to get an I-551 stamp before she leaves country so that she can come back even with the expired NOA.

However, I've seen posts saying that some officers do not grant stamps unless NOA is 1 month before expiration (in this case she would need the stamp at least 2 months before the expiration)

We could try to time the infopass appointment as close to the departure date as possible, but then it involves much of luck. I've been monitoring the availability of the appointments and it is practically impossible to get the date we want...

Has anyone ever been in a similar situation?

    - We moved twice since we applied for ROC.. and we are now in LA.. which means the case might have been transferred to CA office. Didn't get the confirmation although we did file AR-11 for both moves.

  3. Hi all,

We are traveling for next 3 months with pending i-751. My wife has already received NOA so her status is safe for another year.

But the problem is that we haven't received the biometrics appointment letter yet. We are leaving in 5 days..

We already filed AR-11 so that my brother can receive the letter while we are gone.

Are we allowed to go to a different ASC to get the biometrics done? We will be in Asia for next 3 months so a trip to Guam or Hawaii would be much more convenient than traveling back to NC.

Another option would be rescheduling Biometrics appointment - but since we cannot set the date up ourselves, we might have to do it multiple times (not sure what the interval would be for the rescheduled appointment, but presumably 2~3 weeks?) Would 3~4 times rescheduling be ok?

Lastly, I know this is a risky move but I read that denial of i-751 based on abandonment of case happens if an applicant fails to show for biometrics up to 90 days after the appointment. If this is true, can we simply ignore the appointment date and come back 60~70 days later and get the fingerprints done?

We've already delayed our trip once (costs us hundreds of $$- rental car, extended rental etc) and cannot afford to do it anymore.

Thank you all in advance for your help. We are desperately looking for help!

  4. Hi all,

Last month we filed i-751 for my wife and yesterday (5/6) we received NOA1 extending her residency by 1 year.

Looking at people who filed to VSC in April and their records, it seems like the biometrics letter will arrive 2 weeks after NOA.

However we are planning to take a 3 months vacation outside the country starting 5/16. I know that the best option is delay the trip, wait for the biometrics appointment letter to arrive, get the biometrics done and then leave.

But I am trying to see if there are other options since I already sold my car, furniture... etc (we are moving to a different state when we return).

    My questions are

    1. If we do decide to travel before the letter receipt date (and ask our friend to retrieve the letter once it arrives and send it to us), can we visit ASC that is close to our destination and get the biometrics done? (we live in NC but will be much closer to Guam)

    2. Would booking an Infopass appointment (before receiving the ASC letter) help my wife get her biometrics done as early as possible? (ie would they be accommodating?)

    3. I heard that rescheduling the biometrics appointment would push it by 2~3 weeks and we cannot really set the date. If our initial appointment is in early June, can we reschedule it 4~5 times so that we can get this done after we return from the vacation?

Thank you all for your help!

  5. Hi all

I filed I-751 on 04/11/17 which is exactly 90 days from my GC expiration on 07/10/17. The delivery was confirmed and I know the person who signed to pick it up is a USCIS employee.

It has been more than 2 weeks and I did not receive anything back yet. The personal check has not been cashed either.

Becoming very concerned because I will be traveling outside the US from 05/16/17. My question is what do I need to do if I don't receive NOA until the travel date?

Obviously I don't have receipt number and can't really track my case or even inquire about this issue over the phone.

    Thank you!
