    Hey Matt!

Sorry to hear about your accident. I hope you're recovering nicely now :)

Honestly, it kinda doesn't matter if she's working for the UN. The US government agencies will run their own thorough background checks. No one can speed up the checks in order for you guys to move further along in the process. A senator, congressperson and immigration attorney won't be able to find out more details about the background checks because they are considered confidential.

So unfortunately, all you guys can do now is to wait patiently while continuing to see each other every available opportunity.

However, you can try to contact USCIS ombudsman I think. Refer to this link: https://www.dhs.gov/publication/scope-assistance.

I am recovering well, thanks. I will look up the ombudsman. Thank you very much for the information. Every little bit helps.

Oh wow. Since April 2016 you have been waiting? What service center if I may ask? Did you only file 1-130?

Our office is the Nebraska office. Even though I live in Oregon and CA is so much closer. The immigration website said we had to file in Nebraska. Then I read that the Nebraska office was the worst and are way behind. Then in December of 2016, I  received a notice that our paperwork was transferred to the Vermont office. I was really hoping that would possibly speed up the process. But it hasn't.

Yes we only filed an I-130 form. I hate to admit that I am not very good at paperwork and feel like I am lost in this whole process. My dear wife is the one who has helped me fill out most of the forms and has helped me the most through this whole thing.

  3. Hi everyone. My wife Debbie is from Kenya. She found this website and encouraged me to join. I have read a lot of interesting articles here. It has helped us get important information about the process of her gaining a green card and immigrating to the US.

We filed for her and her 10 year daughter on April 18, 2016. We have heard little information on the progress of our filing. So we contacted our State Representative about six months ago to see if he could be of any help. He found out that immigration was still going through the the vetting process. I didn't understand why it would take so long as she works from the UN in Kenya and has been there over six years. So I asked the wonderful people here could help me understand why. Come to find out, immigration does their own vetting. So back to the waiting process we went.

I am sure many of you are as frustrated with this lengthy process as we are. I only get to see each other about twice a year, and only for 2 weeks each time. A few months ago, I was involved in a serious accident at work and spent a month in burn unit at the hospital. She was able to get extended leave from work and was there at the hospital with me till a few days from my release. It is so very hard to be a family living so far apart from each other. Being very much in love with each other and looking to the future when we will be together we have made it work. There has been many ups and downs, as I am positive many of you have been through, we have learned how to live this kind of life.

My question is, will obtaining an immigration lawyer help speed up the process of her obtaining a green card and immigrating to the US? If so, who in anyones  experience would be the best lawyer or firm to help.

Please, if anyone has any kind of information to help this process move along a bit faster, it would be immensely appreciated.

    Thank you for your help,

    Matt

  5. I am from Oregon, my wife is from Kenya. We filed for a spouse visa and one for her 10 year old daughter on April 18, 2016 at the Nebraska office. The first of this year it was transferred to the Vermont office. I checked the status through the USCIS website and could not get any information. I went to my State Representative and asked him to help. After several weeks he received a reply that they were doing further background checks for National Security.

The issue I have with this is, my wife has worked for the UN in Nairobi for 6 years and for Unicef for about 8 prior to that. She has to be well vetted to work with these organizations.

Has anyone else had this kind of issue?

How do I contact the Vermont office directly and get some information? I have searched for days on the USCIS website and can not information on how to contact the Vermont office.
