    Our Visajourney is over! My wife took the oath back on Sep 1st but then we went on vacation so I didn't have time to update this...busy celebrating. :D Congrats to others that have recently passed their interviews and good luck to others nearing their final VJ!

    The folks at the Newark, NJ location were very nice. It's nice that we had the interview and oath the same day. We took about 3-4 hours total. The interview took about 10-15 min at most and we waited another 45 min or so before she could take the oath. It was very moving and the supervisors were very encouraging in their speeches. I wish more folks that are natural born citizens could witness this and see what this country truly stands for. I can't believe our journey is complete.

    so, my husband got his interview appt letter with a huge list of things to bring, most are things that he already filed. Does he Really need to bring everything? Most of the originals were sent with the packets probably in duplicate. I do have all the packet copies (ummm some I may have to dig for). Do you think just bringing those would work? Along with Birth Certificate originals of course. Also, my husband lost his old passport so he has no record of proof that he never left the country except for our word. Will it help if he brings my old passports?

    Wait...did you say most of the originals were sent?? You're supposed to send in copies only! You save the originals and bring those in with your interview.

    Did he lose his old passport after you filed? You should be able to obtain records from the airlines you flew with or at least have the itinerary reprinted. Any email confirmation of flights out of the country? You can probably work with those. They will ask to confirm the dates you left the country. They might not ask for evidence but if they do at least show them whatever evidence you do have. Assuming you traveled together they might accept that but its better to have something showing his name. Thats really to establish the continuing residency requirement. I'm not sure how they would handle that if they didn't believe he was gone past maximum.

    Hi All,

    Wow it's been a while since I have visited. I like the new changes to the site although I have to get used to it.

    I have a question for all you Aussie ex-pats that have gone back home to visit since leaving.

    What do you folks put on those entry forms? Do you just say "going back home" or visiting? It's been almost 3 years since my wife left so I am just trying to plan ahead. I don't know what situation she would be in.

    Sweet! We received the Green Card yesterday!

    SH18, I think it's a useful statistic. I wanted to know how long between the approval, production and reception. It gave me a window of expectation on when to receive it. We receive way too much junk mail and my biggest fear is to mistakenly dump it since they come in a plain white envelope.

    I got my approval letter. It says that the date of approval was 01/07/09. Not sure if this is the date you are using up there on that list or not.

    Small observation, why is it that they use all this fancy paper for the Notice of Action and yet you finally get approval and it's on a plain white piece of paper without letterhead or anything? It's as if they are like "Well since you are not gooing to be giving us anymore money, we are not going to waste our pretty paper on you" hahahaha

    LOL. That's interesting. The approval letter we received was just as fancy if not more fancy than the NOA we received. Maybe they ran out of fancy paper. :lol:

    Changing name on permanent resident card

    I considered that whole ordeal of changing her name on the Green Card. We have a year to go before applying for Naturalization and I recommend waiting if you can. Otherwise you'll be paying and spending even more time waiting to get things processed. I also recall needing some court order to request a name change (well in NJ it's needed). That was another $$ to get done so I think waiting until citizenship is the most cost effective and least complex option.

    Tax Return Info for ROC

    I got impatient and sent them copies of my 1040. However I also sent in copies of the electronic refund to our bank acct and emails showing receipt of our tax filings.

    I did order copies of the transcripts after sending it in just in case.

    If you have a copy of the refund receipt or bank history of getting it deposited you can also send that along as proof of filing. No RFE and was approved within 3 months (yay!).

    Size of statements

    our bank statements are about 10 pages long. Our phone bills are about 20 pages long. When sending those as evidence for I-751 how many pages should I send? Should I send the front page only? Or about 3 or 4 pages? Or should I send the whole thing?

    I sent in about 6 bank statements that were about 4 months apart in it's entirety but they were about 6 pages each. I have read that you only need to send in the first few pages that contain you and your spouses name and address. For the phone I only sent in the first few pages as well as print outs of account info from the web portal showing both of us as approved phone account users that can add / remove features.

    Congrats Rings! We also received the Card Production Ordered status update for today!

    Did you get your approval letter yet? LOL you should receive that any day now if you haven't yet.

    For other VSCers don't worry, they might not be as fast as the CSC but they are moving! We got the approval just shy of 3 months!

    What is going on with email notices & online status

    wow, I was wondering the same thing. I got my approval letter 4 days ago and I don't have any updates on my case online. I hope my new GC is already on its way, because my DL is expiring soon.

    Heh yeah it's crazy. My wife's DL card is expiring soon as well. However, I think if things get tight we are ready to bring that approval letter with us if the GC doesn't arrive first.

    We received the approval letter dated 12/22 after we got back from a holiday and then we just received the email and text (I signed up for both) about the card production ordered status. It states we should receive the GC within 30 days so that should still be ahead of the DL expiration window.

    But yeah, to the original poster it's good to get notifications in general, even if they are duplicates. Also I recall some disclaimer stating these methods of notifications were still in experimental /beta stages. Like one of the others said, having that approval letter is the big one outside of the new GC. You're good to go! I was surprised I didn't get a notification about the approval at all but hey I'll take it! I expected an answer within 6 months and not 3! We were pleasantly surprised.

    If it's not inconvenient to get affidavits notarized and signed feel free to send them in. As time got close and I gathered the necessary evidence, my impatience to send it in within the 90 day window won out. I skipped on it. I read (and firmly believe) that the affidavits are for "last resorts". I looked at all the evidence I had and felt it was enough. Apparently it was since we were approved recently (yay!). I have also read the sticky and it seems that an unofficial conversation with a reviewing officer revealed that affidavits were considered weakest on the list.

    If it makes you feel better, then go ahead and send them in. I didn't want to be bothered to typing out and then getting family and friends to get it notarized.

    you send them what you have. Don't worry about documentation you don't have.

    Agreed! The list of documents look great! Although we own I was the only one listed on the deed / mortgage so we didn't send that in or try to get that changed before submitting. Our list of items are very similar James77. I also didn't bother sending in the affidavits and we got approved without a hitch. The sticky had some great info on what the reviewing officer finds useful and any financial commingling was the strongest and affidavits the weakest. It definitely made common sense. Affidavits were pretty much used for people with minimal evidence and from the list I see you have even more than what I have sent in. I have high confidence that you'll be in great shape.

    Hi All,

    Went to the NJ ASC on 10/29. I didn't want to risk going early and getting denied because I thought it would be a PITA. It turns out there was plenty of room and no backup on the date we went. If any people are doing the Elizabeth, NJ ASC location I'd recommend giving it a go to come early. The people were really friendly and one person came in and asked to get their biometrics done early. However, they came with a friend that flashed some sort of badge and asked if it was ok. Probably some cop or gov't worker friend. The guard/receptionist said it was ok since there weren't that many people.

    It took us about 40 min or so for the entire thing. We spent about 10 min filling out a form and then went to another waiting area where they called the number for fingerprinting. We waited about another 20 min before my wife got called up. There were about 4 or 5 people doing the biometrics so the queue was moving at a fairly good pace.

    The folks there were really nice. I don't recall gov't offices to be so accomodating in such a long time. We actually had a pleasant experience.

    bank statements question?

    I only sent one bank statement for our joint account and was approved. Its quality not quantity that matters.

    Showing multiple banking is quality. They can see activity on the account over time which helps establish an ongoing marital relationship.

    It's good to hear you only needed one statement but your other evidence could have been the ones that solidified the approval. We'll never know.

    Play it safe and send in a range of bank statements epoy2.

    Thanks vylex! I have been getting everything together. We have the signed lease and the medical cards where we pay for the family medical and everything. I did get all my affidavits signed and notarized. I don't have to file till next month so I am doing them anything just to be safe. I already have 7 of them and the rest of the friends, family and even the neighbors are going to do one. I wrote up this kick butt affivaditt that says we are all willing to testify before an immigration officer so I am sure if it's written right it will be useful. We don't have the cell phone plan because quite frankly I am cheap and I don't want to pay for a cell phone lol, but the energy bill is in both our names so I will send that as well. I am sending tons of junk lol.
