  1. c&v,

Sorry you had a bad experience at the postal service. When I did passports for my two young sons, there were no troubles but we let the clerk took the pictures there too for a charge of course.

We were out of there like 15 mins.

I was ready to take new pictures, the main problem was with the checks. Anyway, in about 4-6 weeks I'll have my passport and everything will be over.

I shared this experience because I though someone may learn something from it.

  2. Yesterday I tried to apply for passport at a postal office ( I had an appointment). The clerk there did't accept my application because she said the pictures were not OK (the same pictures that USCIS used for my N400 application !!!) and because the checks were not written by me, but by my husband. She told me that if I want to use these checks my husband should be present (!!!!?). The pictures were in fact good, but she measured the distance from my chin to my forehead not my whole head (which in the pictures was 1 inch, perfectly acceptable under US Department of state requirements ).I admit I wasn't prepared for this absurd situation and I left instead of questioning the clerk (I should have asked her to show me a document where it says about the checks), or asking to see her supervisor.

Today I went to a local County Courthouse and I applied with the same pictures and using the same checks and all went smoothly and without any troubles. If I had do to this all over again I would have applied at the courthouse from the beginning. The clerks there are more experienced (they do this on the daily basis) vs. the clerks at the postal office who don't have a clue about what they're doing. The clerk at the postal office ( I think her name was Lisa) obviously pulled those requirements out of her ####.

  3. ps can I ask do you have a USCIS account to monitor it and when they sent the bio date in the mail, could you see the bio date on line on your account a couple of days earlier ? ie did you have to wait for the bio letter to arrive ?

Yes I have an USCIS account, it showed the date when they send the biometrics letter, but not the date of the biometrics.

Today I did the early walk-in, it was short and painless. Everybody was very nice, they even gave me a brochure and a CD to prepare for the citizenship exam.In about 30 minutes I was in my car again heading home.

  4. I want to a apply for naturalisation based on marriage with an american citizen.I got my GC in June 15th 2007, so the 3 years anniversary is June 15th 2010, but I can apply up to 90 days earlier, so that would be March 15th 2010. I've been out of US for a total of 135 days (7 trips). From what I understood, you have to add those days to the date of the 3 year anniversary.Based on what I said, I figured that I would be eligible to apply on July 29th 2010.

My husband talked with a lawyer about my application, and the lawyer told him that I don't have to add a single day to the 3 year aniversary date if I was outside U.S. for less than 6 months. That would make me eligible months ago, on March 15th 2010.

I'm confused. Is what the lawyer told my husband true? When I am eligible to apply? Please advise.Thank you very much everyone.

  5. I have to apply sometime in the end of March, and i'm in the process of gathering evidence and putting it together. This is what i have so far:

    -copy of GC

-copies of both DLs showing same adress

-10 pictures of us together and with family (can add more)

-4 original postcards adressed to both of us- i have many more, but i don't want to send originals because i keep them as souvenirs

    -joint account

-copy of joint tax return 2007

-various documents for both showing the same adress(each document has only one of our names on it but same adress):

-copy of letter from FAFSA to me

-copies of statement of accounts for both

-copy of invoice from Puritan's Pride

-copy of letter from HOA adressed to husband

-copy of electric statement adressed to husband

-copy of invoice from Amazon with husband's name

    -copy of my W2 2008

    -copy of husband's W2 2008

-copy of my Citi CC statement

-copy of letter from WAMU adressed to me

-copy of letter of acceptance from college adressed to me

-copy of IRA application showing me as a beneficiary

-copy of a letter from health insurance showing me as a beneficiary

-copy of letter from IRS adressed to both(the stimulus letter)

-copies of tickets from our holidays (2007&2008 in exotic places)

-copies of both testaments and living wills showing each of us as beneficiaries

I intend to add more pictures (around 10 more) and letters from family.

Is it enough? Is there anything that i can add?I want to avoid a RFE and I want a very fast processing of our case.

My husband pays all the bills and he also pays for my college and for my orthodontic treatment, and don't know if showing that will make a difference to USCIS.Maybe somebody can give me an advice.

    Thank you!

  6. I have a GC that expires in june, and we were approved without interview.I started gathering supporting documents, and I think that I have everything that I need, but of course I am still a little nervous because I have to deal with USCIS again. There are a few things that worry me:

-if i send the application arround 25-30 march, how long will it take until they will approve it?i heard that some people wait as much as one year.

-is it going to be a interview this time or if you were approved without interview the first time, it's going to be the same for the removal of cond. status?

  8. Hello,everyone.

In a a couple of days me& my husband are going to Dominican Republic in our honeymoon.I have a Green Card, and a passport from my country.I called to DR embassy, and they said that i dont need a visa to enter in their country. As far as I know,I can re-renter US with a GC.But the problem is I am still worried. What I ask from you is to tell me(if you know for sure, from your experience if it's possible) if a GC,a passport from my country and a marriage certificate(to prove the name on the GC,because it's different from the name in the passport),are enough to travel in Dominican Republic and that re-enter safely in US.

    Thank you.
