Does anyone know if there is a way to reduce the cost of the filing fee ($465 + $80 biometric) at all? finally got all my supporting documents together.

Thanks for the replies, btw as to my profile ... I filed for both K-3 and CR-1 but the CR-1 came through first so I went with that. The affidavits I was enquiring about was for the I-751. I tried to update the time line awhile ago but I couldn't figure it out! lol.

Beneath the space for a signature on the Affidavit sample at:
http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...ost&id=4062
there is another space for "s.s" .. is that for the social security number of the person doing the affidavit for us?

As the topic states, I have some more questions regarding affidavits... are relatives allowed to do affidavits? and also, do the people providing the affidavits have to be U.S citizens or are legal permanent residents ok too ?
-
thankyou both!

Ok! so it's time to file the I-751 but we're unsure how to go about the affidavits. We're a young couple and being helped out a lot by my husband's parents and family - meaning we don't have any joint finances under both our names like leases or loans, besides a checking account - so we're relying pretty heavily on these.
I've seen some good samples online so I have an idea of what sort of format it should be in but does it need to be typed or handwritten and signed? Do we need the people writing the affidavits for us to actually be there to sign it in front of whoever notarizes the document? I'm not even sure where or who to go to, to get it notarized.. please help !

thanks for the affidavit sample! really helpful

ok finally we got our welcome letter today (05/21/2007)
we did our POE on 04/08/2007 so it took about 6 weeks for the welcome letter.
No SS card yet and no green card yet but USCIS system does show card production ordered on 05/17/2007
Wow, they really need to set up a proper procedure for this kind of stuff. My case seems to be quite backwards and yours is going very slow.
I arrived at POE Los Angeles 05/30/07, received SSN 06/11/07 ... no green card or welcome letter yet though.

Wow.. in most cases I think its actually cheaper for whoever is staying outside of the U.S to call, from New Zealand to the U.S with a phonecard was only 4 cents a minute and a very small connection fee. When he called me using a $20 international phonecard, we would use the whole thing up within about 3-4 hours of talking time! Personally I think its best to download a voicechat program like Skype if your time/schedule differences aren't too bad. If you have a comp and a net connection then its practicallly free and computer mics aren't expensive.

Cool, thanks for that bit of info, probably gonna try get to SS office tomorrow just to make sure things are moving along. Still early yet - only been here 5 days so far so got awhile to go before I'm likely to get stuff in the mail :'(
Really itching to get out and do something

I'm at a loss as to what order I'm supposed to do things in. Do I need to wait for my green card and social security number to arrive in the mail before I can apply for a bank account/driver's licence/job? Or is the visa in my passport sufficient?
I also read that I require my I-94 form to later apply for my AOS, but I don't have one. Seems I also need it to apply for work authorization.. or do I not need to apply for that after I get my greencard ?
If anyone can shed some light on the situation, it'd be much appreciated!

Started the filing process in May and I think it should be approved by next week.. (just had interview today).

OMG LOVE THE DETAIL!!!!! Thanks for posting this, my interview is in just under two weeks at the Auckland Consulate-also for CR1!
GRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the interview for the K3 was first then that might be why you received the K3 visa. Hopefully the CR 1 visa is on its way, probably should contact them though and see what's going on just to make sure.

Thanks a lot sooo painfully close!

Soo.. I guess I'm about 3/4 of the way through K-3 processing, I just got the package from the consulate in my home country (N.Z). Super excited but there is this one form that has me stumped. One of the required forms to send back is the DS-156 (a Non-immigrant visa app) which asks questions such as 'How long do you intend to stay in the U.S?' and 'What is the purpose of your trip?' ... how do I answer these questions on a non immigrant form when it is part of the K3 process ?
Very confused
