Niaje na poa. I am the Spouse of a Kenyan. I applied for a K1 for him. He comes from Nairobi.

Your friends are not wrong and not right. It is grey area. Depends on the Airline. Take KLM or AF NOT Kenya Airways. KQ almost did not let him board because it was a K1. In their manual for the USA, KQ has K1 as a NON-Immigrant Visa (nothing about Immigrant Intent). Because I used a Frequent Flyer ticket, I got online and got him the return trip and got KLM to attach the return ticket.

THEN in Amsterdam, Security there questioned him why he had a return ticket since he had  K1. They knew the rules there. He explained and Security was okay with it.

Get a return ticket IF you are using KQ if you are taking the 8:00am Departure as the US Embassy is not open for calls at that hour. If you are using KLM at 11:30pm you are fine.

    ...complicated? Isn't immigration this?????

    Thanks kaka.

Will definitely book the return ticket though am not going to use the back ticket just to avoid inconveniences.

    Asante Sana kaka..

Most major US carriers don't care, but I'm not familiar with your choices from Nairobi.

    Thanks.

Since the are no direct flights from Nairobi to the US, hence no US airlines available. i will just have to go for the round trip which is almost double the price. And remember to cancel the back ticket as you suggested once I arrive in the US.
