When filing for AOS, the EAD/AP application is free (or included, rather... nothing is free). It usually takes about 90 days for EAD/AP, so I would apply at least 120 days (the more the better) before your OPT ends, just to be on the safe side.

You can apply to renew your work permit for free with your AOS application to prolong your work authorization. Good luck!
