  1. Our NOA2 was dated 6/15, and we got an email from the embassy telling us we could start the process on 7/7. My fiancé and I had our interview on 9/18, but we took our sweet time doing the following paperwork. The first thing you will have to do after getting your email from the embassy is fill out a form online called the DS-160. Once that is done, you can start working on the other things to prepare for your interview. The steps are listed really accurately at this link: SDO%20-%20Santo%20Domingo.pdfI'm sorry I don't actually know much about the affidavit of support. I don't have an income so I used my parents as co-sponsors, and totally forgot to get an employment letter. I don't know how to fill it out properly. Sorry!

  2. Hey! I live in Massachusetts, and my fiancé lives in Santo Domingo. :)

So I think the majority of people interview as a couple, from what I observed at my day at the embassy. We were only asked one question, and they had me answer it, asking how we started dating. There was a little scanner they used at the end of our interview to select aspects of our interview using barcodes with labels on the wall, and one of the things they scanned was "petitioner present", so maybe it's important to them. I saw a woman who went alone not have her application approved because she did not have enough evidence of the relationship, but it sounds like the only evidence she submitted was a single photo! And even though it was not approved they said that she would need to come back to the embassy with her partner, so I feel like worse case scenario is if they don't like that you're not there, they'll give you a second chance but you'll have to fly in. I went through the consulate reviews here on Visa Journey for the Dominican Republic and a person recently went alone and was asked more questions than I was asked, but it sounds like it was approved! I copy and pasted what he or she was asked below. So I guess if your fiancé goes alone just have them bring a ton of evidence.

"Good day, (the consul, friendly), the questions begin. - The petitioner did not come ?, - in working on? - Since when ?, (said ohh yes, it is new). - As they met, when? Because it lasted 1 year to come after they met - How many times has come, the time duration of the 1st and 2nd ?, - Where is it? (At this point she looked through the record, and I saw the pictures and everything sent my boyfriend to USCIS, When I said dates the nod) -the knows your family in the US - lives with his parents? In that year his father died, - Where he was born ?. -how Came to the US? They communicate? How often ?, - He called marriage ?, When you want to get married? big or small wedding? Congratulations your visa has been approved !!"

  3. Hey! I recently interviewed in the Dominican Republic with my fiancé for his K1 visa. Thankfully, they didn't even ask us for the affidavit of support! We brought one just in case, but they never asked for it. It was listed on the email we got from the embassy as things to bring to the consular interview. Here is the list they sent us in the email of documents to bring. Of the things listed below, they only asked for the DS-160, medical report, police certificate, and original birth certificate. They didn't even ask to see any evidence of our relationship! They did ask for our NVC case number, though, and we did not have it with us, so that might be a helpful thing to bring as well. They looked it up for us. Please feel free to ask if you have any more questions.

    "For a Consular Interview

    • Police Certificate
    • Original of Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate, Divorce Decree
    • Affidavit of Support: Forms I-864, I-864A, Federal tax returns, W-2s and job letter (if not already submitted to the NVC)
    • Documents demonstrating your relationship with the Principal Applicant"
  4. Hello! In case any person having difficulty scheduling embassy interviews in the Dominican Republic in the future, I messaged some other K1 visa applicants, and this is what I learned: One said that there weren't many openings the first day they looked, and they checked back a week later and there were many others that opened. Another said that when they first looked there were many appointments, including ones that were two months out.

For Gabby and I, after checking for the past two days, a bunch of appointments opened up for the next month and a half. It looks like slots are usually available Sunday-Friday.

  5. Thanks everyone for your help! Interestingly, in the Dominican Republic the medical interview is not scheduled, you just show up and it's first-come first-serve. However, I do need to bring my scheduled consulate interview date to the medical, but they only have consulate interview appointment availability for scheduling for August 17-21, and we won't be able to make any of those dates. Hopefully some more consulate dates open up soon! Our I-129F expires in mid-October, so at least we have some time to get this part of the application done.

  6. Hello everyone. This is my first post on Visa Journey! This thread has been really helpful for me.

I have a question about scheduling a visa appointment. We completed the DS-160 and the fee has been paid to schedule an appointment, but on the scheduling website, there are only appointments open from August 17-21st, only a couple days from now. However, we need an appointment later on (preferably September) so that we have time to get the medical interview completed, which, as these handy instructions that my fiancé found say (https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/iv-dv-supplemental/SDO%20-%20Santo%20Domingo.pdf), should be done three weeks before the consulate interview. And we can't go to the medical interview without a scheduled consulate interview. When y'all scheduled your consulate appointments, were there only dates available for the next several days? And if so, how do we get the medical done far enough in advance?
