  1. We are at 62 days at this time on the 1-94 and when he filled out his papers in Dublin he filled out the tiny section that asked if he wanted a social security number (which of course he ticked yes). When I called the SS office here in MS - they told me that he could not have a social security number as he is not cleared to work and would have to wait until he received his green card. Should we fill out the aaplication at this time as we are within the 76 day time frame? If so, do I check "legal alien not allowed to work" or "other"? Thanks for the advice. You seem to know more about this than employees of the social security office... Thanks.

A K-1 visa holder can get a SSN during the 90 days of the I-94, but only the first 76 days of the I-94 then SSA will not issue one until the K-1 holder has EAD or Green card.

    See the guide:

  2. Hello to all. I have not been on in awhile. We are now ready to file for our AOS as we are just married on Saturday. I called the Social Security Office and they said that I would apply for a social security number after the AOS was approved and a green card was received. Is this correct. Richard came in on a K-1 visa. I am not sure how to proceed. Any assistance would be great. Thanks a million.

  3. Yippee. We are approved. My fiance had his interview in Dublin today. Everything went great (thanks to all the advice from y'all and info from this site), and he was issued the visa right then and there. We can finally move on to planning the wedding. I swear they should give you a complimentary bottle of Nice and Easy... I have noticed a growing number of grey hairs that I completely blame on the CSC. I hope that this was the hardest battle and everything goes smoothly from this point on. Of course, this is the government and I do not believe that "smoothly" is in their mission statement.

Thanks again for all the input and advice (not only to my own questions - reading the concerns of others and the advice given was just as helpful). Anybody got any advice about planning a wedding (in less than three months)? I am thinking Vegas...

  4. I feel like I always have questions, and the more I read - the more I question. Of course, I have been reading posts, and now I have found myself a wee bit on the confused side as to how we are going to deal with this one or if this one will even become a problem (I have read on other posts that the embassys are pretty picky). My fiance is self employed. He can prove income through his taxes, but I am not sure what to do if a letter from employer is necessary. Also, will I have to prove income? Have not filed taxes in five years (was living in Ireland and did not work). I am trying to make sure that we have all angles covered and no surprise.

    Thanks.

  5. Another emergency approval... Get it! It's my lame 9/11 joke. Welcome to the party. Congrats!!! - Sheriff Uling

Thanks. What is funny (sort-of anyway) is I got all worked up and called my congressman, made an appointment to see his secretary tomorrow at 10 am, and I start the "and I am going to tell them this and that..." Then I get an approval today. I was all geared up for a good complaining session.

I should have called the congressman ages ago - he didn't even have to do anything.

  6. After several months of waiting and a few minor emotional breakdowns, as of Sept 11 (according to the update online) we are approved. We are so happy. Of course, we know there is yet more waiting and frustration as it has to go through the next set of flaming hoops of despair, but one step at a time. Yippee.

Anyone know how long it takes it to go through the NVC? Do you continue to check on the USCIS website for updates on this?

    Thanks, y'all.

  7. I feel the need to vent as well. It is very frustrating. We filed at the end of April with TSC and were transferred to CSC. We have three children (a four year old and twin nine year olds - one of which is autistic). I lived in Ireland with my fiance until December at which time my father was diagnosed with liver disease. I did not know how long he had, so we made a decision that it was time to go home. We wanted to do all the paperwork while living in Ireland as a family, but plans change... I wish I could be humble, but I am the one that has to drop my fiance at the airport and listen to the children cry. It is not right. Where is the equality? I cannot even look to the light at the end of the tunnel because I haven't a clue how bloody long the tunnel is.

  8. I got my police certificate from the Mills street Gardai Station in Galway...

I think it took me like a month or a little more.

Go to the police station with your passport and an envelope with your address.

Make them know it s for immigration.

    Good luck

    Rejane

Thanks for the advice y'all. My fiance is currently in the US on a holiday visa, is it possible to request the police certificate through the post? Do not know if anyone has tried that. Also, does anyone know how long it takes from the receipt of Packet 3 until interview date at the Irish Embassy. We have so many questions... This is hard on our family as I moved back to the states in December (lived in Ireland for four years) and our family is seperated for the first time (we have three children). We are trying to see the light at the end of the tunnel...

  9. We filed our Fiance visa at the end of April. Since then we have received two RFEs waiting on a response from the last one. We are trying to get ahead with some of the necessary documents needed for the K-1. We have read that you are required to have a police certificate. Does the embassy send you a form in Packet 3 to take to the garda station, or do you go in and request it? Also, has anyone received a police certificate from Galway, and if so, how long did it take?

Any advice regarding this issue would greatly appreciated... We are a nervous wreck...
