Hello! We are an American/Lithuanian couple and we recently decided to get married! VisaJourney has been a huge help for us already while trying to learn as much as we can about this process. We're super glad there's other people who are going though the same thing and are willing to answer our questions.

So here's the thing, my U.S. citizen fiance has a criminal record, so do we have to get certified copies of every arrest (in reference to question 4.a. on the I-129f)? Do we need to include original certified documents or can we make photocopies of them for the petition?

Also, I have been been married before (very briefly, a joke gone too far) and according to the I-129f instructions we need to provide evidence of the annulment. Do we need a certified copy of the annulment documents? We want to be completely sure before we spend the money on certified copies.

    Thanks!

Not sure about the law in that country but our experience in the DR, we got to the interview and fingerprints showed a fight from 2010, we had to get a letter from police department, letter from attorney general, letter from the jail, all translated to English and it has to say my spouse haven't had any issues since the 2010 issue and we had to get another police report after we had fingerprints expunged from the attorney general, all notorized, a letter in your spouse words explaining the issues of the arrest..after the interview they will give you a letter of denial with a explanation what is needed to complete the process and remove the arrest record...Good Luck ours took a couple of months and it wasn't cheap

    • Address History in Page 2, If mailing address is current address, do we need to type same address in Physical Address 1 ?
    • there is Part 9 Additional Information in Page 12. What will be the item number for address history or employment history?

    Hi Everyone,

I just got married in DR in May. I'm trying to do my HW in making sure I have everything I need to start the proceed to bring my husband to the states. I have the following questions hopefully you guys can shed some light. Thank you 😊

Does our marriage license, Birth certificate and Divorce documents have to be INEXTENSA OR EXTENSA? I know they have to be translated to English

I helped my sister as a sponsor doing an AOS for her husband will this affect my application?

I will greatly appreciate your feedback or response! :)

You need the long form, I married a Dominican man in 2013, if you make $20k a year your can be a sponsor and I think its 4 people as long as you have the income.

Yes sorry I see the problem I didn'1 get approved yet we just submitted our I-130 and it was sent to the Nebraska Center for processing. So all I do is wait now?

Yes and it's a long wait, but start getting documents, taxes, pay fees, copies of birth certificate, anything needing translation, originals and copies, marriage certificate, passport photos, you will need police report but it expires within 30 days so wait until you get letter requesting it, passport for spouse need to be valid at least 6 months before travel to USA, photos of your relationship, any transactions between you, email, letters, if you sent money from western union or money gram, bank statement with his name, or lease, things that say your a couple will be requested. Good Luck

    Hey everyone,

We recently got our NOA 2!!! Yaaaaay! (I have to update my timelines etc.  )

We're really excited to hear from the Visa Center. However, I'm really worried about my taxes....I have a tax return for 2014, however, I'm confused about what to do for the other two most recent years.

2015 - I had no income and was living overseas in Peru. I never filed taxes for that year. (Not sure if this is pertinent information but my husband and I got married in December 2015).

2016 - I had a total yearly income of just over $4,000 with a 1099-MISC. Was also living in Peru. I didn't file because...well, that's not a lot of money so I didn't think I qualified to file. I tried to file online but didn't know how to deal with the question of should I file as single or married filing separately.

The good news: My parents are willing to provide the financial affidavit. Together, they make the necessary income to be able to be considered as providing financially for us.

So, what should I do? These are what I see as my options:

    1) Late file my 2015 taxes as 0 income, and file my 2016 taxes ASAP (I still have until June 15, since I'm living overseas). [] Lingering question there: Do I file as single or married filing separately??

    2) Not file my 2015 taxes, but file my 2016 taxes.

    3) Not file either one, write a letter about the situation explaining what happened in 2015 and 2016, and hope that they focus mostly on the fact that my parents are offering support? [] If I wrote such a letter, would it have to be notarized in the U.S? Or would a Peruvian notary count?

Has anyone been through anything like this?? Please help!

File your taxes and write a letter of explanation, you have to file single because not in same country, if your in the USA and spouse somewhere else they don't have SS card, if you put married they ask questions about them and request SS number. If you have a sponsor your taxes don't apply only the sponsor have to send taxes with the Affidavit of Support.

I married my husband from nigeria and making plan for us to be together. .... what can of visa application do I need to apply for at the uscis. Thanks

After you get married you need I-130, it was $430 but all fees went up, it actually would have went faster if you did the fiance visa, after you marry someone that process is long, I got married in Dominican Republic to my spouse and filed the I-130 and it was a long process, fiance visa is 3 months they arrive in your home country and can work, you have to get married in 90 days and then start paying all the expensive fees to the government.

zilchfox's answer is correct, but you were incorrectly informed that your husband needed to leave his country by May 7th, unless the expiration date of the visa was May 7th.  That would only be appropriate if immigrant visas from his country expire six months from the medical exam and his visa was delayed nearly six months.  What's the expiration date on the visa?  You were "informed" by WHOM, exactly?

We were informed by immigration officer in DR, and the visa has that date, May 7, 2017, also in the summary sheet, but they didn't put the A- registration number to pay the fee, it's been like pulling teeth to get answers since he arrived, we can't get the green card until the fee paid.

Hello, the expiration on the visa is May 7, 2017, and they didn't give my husband the A-number to pay for the green card, I thought it was $220 but you need that number to pay the fee, I called uscis they said call his home country they don't have the number, that place is really a joke.

  9. My spouse was issued the visa, 2017-04-27, received visa 2017-05-3, was informed had to leave his country by 2017-05-07, we exit on 2017-05-05 but his passport/visa states 1 year permanent resident, I'm not sure why it's just for 1 year I thought you have 6 months to leave your home country once issued the visa and 2-10 years resident on the visa, can anyone help me with this status.. Thanks
