  1. Hello,

I had a conditional permanent residency in the US, but about a year ago I moved back to Ireland. I recently received a letter from USCIS letting me know that my residency had been terminated (sent to my old address in Boston). I expected this (I left the country after all), but I'm concerned about being blocked from entering the US when I go on a holiday to CA next year.

Do I need to record my departure somehow? Or inform USCIS I have made a permanent move from the US?

    Thanks for any help...

    Chris

  2. EDIT: So I'm an idiot. It says 3 weeks on the letter not 60 days. The email said 60 days. I believe the letter. So please ignore this post.

Well I got approved for my Green Card (hurrah) last week, but the letter said it may take up to 60 days to get the GC in hand.

My question is this...If I am now a permanent resident, can I re-enter the US even though I will not have the actual Green Card itself? Will they have my details in a database, making my passport sufficient? Am I expecting too much of Homeland Security? I am traveling to Ireland for a wedding in (wouldn't you know) 60 days, this is why I ask.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I checked the USCIS site to no avail.

  4. Whoops, I got all excited and gave the impression my EAD was just approved, when it was actually my AOS that was approved today!

    So for the list

    ................................NOA1..........BIOMETRICS...TRANSFER....EAD APPROVAL...AOS APPROVAL

    DARESIE...................11/11/06.....02/08/07.........11/29/06......02/20/07............04/06/07

    Update for the list....

    Approved!!

    ................................NOA1..........BIOMETRICS...TRANSFER....EAD APPROVAL

    DARESIE...................11/11/06......02/08/07......11/29/06........04/06/07

  5. I applied filed for my AOS in November 06. I didn't think I would be leaving the country any time soon, so I didn't apply for Advance Parole. Turns out one of my best friends is getting married back home in Ireland in June. I filed for AP thirteen twelve days ago and as yet have not received a receipt. I have flights booked for June 13th. This is going to be very close and I may be in a bit of trouble.

This isn't really a question. Just a warning to anyone who is just filing for AOS. It's absolutely worth filing for AP at the same time, simply as insurance. I really wish I had.

  6. Hey there,

After looking at a few peoples time lines I've noticed that the time between receipt of the I-485 and notice of the ominous sounding Biometrics appointment is usually quite short (1-2 weeks). My notice of receipt is dated 11/11/06 but as yet I have not had any word of any biometrics appointment (~7 weeks later).

Anyone know if this is a normal time to wait? After an very stressful K-1 process I am naturally suspicious of everything, so forgive me if this is a little paranoid.

    Thanks!

    Chris

  7. ...Because anyone who reads this in the NYT who isn't going through this process will think 'Gee, why should I worry about IMBRA, it's only creeps who hate American women who bother to look overseas anyway.'

I agree. I went through the K1 process this summer, and the delays made it a horrific experience (especially as my wedding is next week!), but this article even leaves me feeling completely unsympathetic.

  8. Saw this article about IMBRA in the NY Times today.

    http://tinyurl.com/y5xo7r

Unfortunately it doesn't discuss enough the decision to invoke the IMBRA legislation on cases already approved months ago, and the delays that this caused. I feel the IMBRA law makes sense, but it was it's application that affected so many people.

It's still interesting reading though, although there's an assumption that it is only men that petition for foreign fiancee's. I came over on a K1 to marry my fiancee, and I'm a guy, and it wasn't 'mail order'.

  9. Just got off the phone with NVC. Apparently the guy I talked to last week messed up when he told me it was sent out on 8/21. Appartently that is the date they received it from Vermont. The lady I talked to today told me it was actually sent on 8/25. She said the records are hard to understand in the computer for Recalled cases...

The short version is, it shouldn't take more than 3 or 4 days max from when DHL get your package. I would double check with the NVC to make sure they actually give you the correct sending date. Good luck.

Thanks very much for that. I'll give NVC another call and get on their case. I checked DHL and there was a package sent to Dublin on the 21st, arriving on the 23rd. Seems too close to be coincidence. But if that is mine I don't know why the embassy are telling me they don't have it. Maybe they spelt my name wrong... :(

  10. I think maybe I phrased my question wrong.

Our petition has been approved, left the VSC, arrived at the NVC, then we recieve a letter to say it was sent to the embassy in Dublin on the 18th.

My problem is, the embassy have not yet recieved it 12 days later, not the NVC.

Has anyone else experienced a wait at this point?

  11. I get the feeling this isn't the first time this question has been asked, so my apologies for that! Feel free to direct me to another thread.

We got a letter from NVC stating that our petition was forwarded to the embassy on "the week of the 18th August". I called the embassy again today (29th) and they still don't have it. Surely it doesn't take this long to arrive?

I have called the NVC and they have assured me that the letter is correct. My time is running out now as I revieved packet 3 back in April, but my petition was sent back to the US for the IMBRA RFE.

I'm just trying to find out if anyone else has experienced a 11+ day wait between the day the petetiton is sent, and the day it arrives at the embassy? If not, is there anyone else I can call to find out if it has actually been mailed, instead of designated to be mailed? NVC aren't able to tell me this it seems.

    Thanks....

    Chris

  12. Oct 27th is my birthday :P

I know how you feel-I swore that my man would have had this visa MONTHS ago-boy was I wrong

You guys should be ok-once they get the info-they move quickly. The best thing you can do, is have all the paperwork ready to send back in when you get packet #3. Once we did that-it moved pretty quickly(well we had a few bumps along the way, but our case was a little complicated). They are sound at the embassy, you could always ask to get in as soon as possible-once they have your paperwork, they may be able to get you in straight away(explain about your wedding-it certainly can't hurt).

Let me know when they get your paperwork.

It's really good to see so many Irish on here lately (F)

    Take care

    Colleen

My fiancee got a letter saying that they sent the package to the embassy on the 21st, which was really quick, considering they recieved it on the 15th. I already have my paperwork ready as I recieved packet #3 a while ago when the embassy had my petition the first time (thank you IMBRA), so maybe this will be a quick enough process....

    Thanks for your help!

  13. Hey there,

I called the NVC today, gave my CIS reciept no, and was given a case number for my K1, then was told that I should call the Dublin embassy with any questions.

I took this to mean that the embassy have my petition back, which they don't (I called). The case number the operator gave me is the same as the case number we had the first time round (Our petition was sent from the embassy back to USCIS because of the IMBRA RFE). From anyone's experience is the case number and/or CIS reciept no usually the same both times round.

If not, I fear she may have got the case mixed up with our previous case - which was sent to the embassy.

Sorry for such a complicated question for a simple answer!

    Chris

  14. Hi everyone,

I really want to get through the embassy interview first time, so I want to have all of the documentation perfect! My question is, when do you require a co-sponsor for evidence of support? My fiancee is making over 125% of the poverty line, so does that mean that her sponsorship is enough?

    Thanks,

    Chris

  15. Hi Guys,

This topic seemed as good as any to post my question so I'll give it a shot. I live in Dublin and we started the K1 process back in March. That whole IMBRA (is it IMBRA?) deal meant that our petition was sent back for "re-approval". Lauren, who lives in MA, got the NOA2 on Friday 11/8.

Does the NVC really take 2-4 weeks to send your petition back to the Dublin Embassy? Even if it's for the second time? Some people's timelines seem to indicate it can be a bit faster than this. It's just we're meant to be moving into an apartment September 4th (which I'm definately not going to make) and the wedding is on October 27th, so I'm getting a bit shaky.

...and one last question, sorry! How would we find out when the petition is sent back from the NVC to the embassy? I've been calling them about twice a week and kind of would like to stop annoying them!

    Thanks,

    Chris
