  1. My wife came here on K-1 visa and she just received her EAD/AP combo card and her SS card . We are waiting for the green card interview to be scheduled .

We both want her to have my surname but all her current documents from USCIS and her SS card are in her current family surname .

Should we wait until after she gets her green card to start the process of legally changing her surname to mine ?

We would prefer for her green card and SS card to have my surname .

Any thoughts and advice is greatly appreciated!

  2. My wife and my step daughter both recieved their advance parole document .

My wife wants to travel to her native country to visit family and to change her daughter’s surname. Her daughter has her biological father’s name in her passport .

Will this be a big problem with CBP re-entering if my step daughter has her surname legally changed in her native country and her passport has a different surname than what is on her Advance Parole document ?

I am very concerned about this . Both my wife and I want her surname changed but I’m thinking this will cause am issue with CBP.

i welcome your advice on opinions.

  3. Hello VJ community ,

My wife submitted her I-485 packet for herself and her daughter .

We are planning on filing the I-601 waiver for exemption of vaccionations for religious beliefs.

We were under the impression that we can file this after the interview.

I’m worried now that maybe we should have filed it with the entire I-485 packet .

I keep hearing different things, some have told me that we file the I-601 waiver  after the interview and some have told me that we should have filed the waiver with the entire AOS I-485 packet .

Kindly share your thoughts and advice .

    Thank you !

  4. Hello everybody !

I'm in the process of applying for my wife's AOS (II-485) & her daughter's.

I'm confused as to how to pay the application fees and biometric fees , I'm paying for two people.

1-  Do I just write a check for the total amount from all the forms, fees and biometric fees for both my wife and her daughter,  or do I write a separate check for each form for my wife's daughter's forms and biometric fees??

2-  Are there biometric fees for children ?  My wife's daughter is 6 years old.

3- Do I put my wife's daughter's forms in the same packet as my wife's or do a separate packet for her daughter?

Any tips and help is greatly appreciated !

  5. My fiancée finally received her k-1 visa yesterday from the U.S. embassy in Moscow.

However, they made a big mistake. They put the wrong expiration date on her k-1 visa, the expiration date is a few weeks from now !!!

Both of us have called the embassy a thousand times and there is nobody of authority to talk with.

We both wrote to the embassy.

My fiancée got a response from someone at the embassy ( the response was written in Russian), they told her to bring her passport to the embassy.

They said she must put her passport in a box at the gate, she cannot go inside the embassy !!!

I am having difficulty with this, if they made a mistake with something so simple as to her expiration date on the visa, how do I know they will not lose her passport?

The person inside the embassy who will open the box , how will he know what to do with her passport ?

How will they know why my wife's passport is there without her being there in person to explain this ??

Should I even trust them ?

If by some chance they lose her passport then it is all over !!!

Of course they don't take responsibility if they lose someone's passport,

Has anyone had any similar experience with the United States embassy in Moscow?

Should she even go and leave her passport in a box at the gate ?

Any advice or similar stories will be appreciated !

It is very bad that the United States embassy in Moscow works so inefficient, even with staff reduction.

Leaving something so valuable as a passport with a visa stamp inside a box at the gate is a ridiculous process !!

  6. Our anniversary is tomorrow , I had ordered for delivery to my fiancée , flowers, candy , and champagne . I placed the order last Saturday.

Due to the terrible shopping mall fire in Russia, will me sending celebratory items to my fiancée seem insenstive to the Russian people ?  My fiancée was very shaken by this terrible tragedy and now I’m thinking this might not be a good idea to send her these items for us to celebrate our anniversary .

Some cultures have different ways of dealing with national tragedy , maybe I’m overthinking this but would like to hear from a Russian point of view .

  7. Hello everybody !

My fiancée has her K-1 visa interview scheduled for this Thursday , March 29th.

I am very worried now of Russia’s retaliation and what type of consequences it will have for people that have interviews already scheduled or people trying to schedule an interview .

Is transferring our case to another embassy an option if Russia does the same thing with the U.S.?

What options would we have ?

I welcome your thoughts and advice !

  8. Thanks for your kind response .

Long story short , even though some of her family members have had bad reactions to vaccines , she is a nutritionist and is against vaccines on moral grounds .

The only thing we can do is try and file the I-601 waiver based on sincere moral objections at AOS, if we’re denied then we will move to another country .

But for now , I just hope she can get the K-1 visa at the embassy and then we can try and see what happens in the states .

What is confusing is that they categorize the K-1 visa as a Nonimmigrant visa but on the US embassy from Moscow they have it listed as an immigrant visa !

  9. I have talked with schools in my state and there is a waiver available they told me.

What I’m more worried about is the Moscow Embassy enforcing vaccines for k-1 visa issuance .

I appreciate your response and input .

Yes, they are strict here in the states with vaccines but we will file the I-601 waiver of vaccionation requirement with USCIS at AOS and then we will have to file waiver at school.

Right now my concern is the interview at the embassy .

  10. Yes , I have checked for my state and we can get a medical waiver .

I am more worried about the issuance of the K-1 visa at her interview in Moscow because she will not get the vaccines for herself or daughter .

Although it clearly says vaccine are “ OPTIONAL” according to USCIS and the state department, I am very concerned about this .

I can’t really enjoy and celebrate our NOA2 because of this .

    Thankf for your replies !

    Good luck to everyone !
