  1. Sorry to repeat my previous questions regarding my AOS paperwork but I am having a hard time with it.

    So, here I go:

    1) EAD: Question 9 - It asked to put all my Social Security Numbers.... Do I write my Canadian number (it is the only one I ever used)?

    2) Travel Doc: Part 3 - It asked for a specific travel date.... which I do not have. Do I leave it blank?

Part 7 - Multi-visit box option.... this is what I want, but I'm confussed with part 3.

    3) Allien Registration #: I can't find it. The only "A" number that I was able to located was on my I-129f NAO2 letter. BUT, it is a 9 digit number, and the VJ example form has only 8. Is this normal? Where can I locate the number?

    4) Medical Examination: I tried to read the threads that deal with what we actually need to do BUT it is so contractory. Can anyone please shed some light on what exactly I need to do? Also, where can I find a Civil Surgeon in Chicago?

    5) Marriage Certificate: Is a copy o.k., or do I need to send the original?

MANY thanks for all you help. I greatly appreciate any guidance, as I have no idea what I am doing!

  2. O.K, first round of AOS paper work has been completed. AS always, I have a few questions before I can complete the forms:

    - What is an Alien Registration number? It begins with an "A"

    - Where can I locate the I-94 #? Is it my departure number located on the top left corner?

    - Where is my file # A____ located? What is it?

    - How do I apply for a US Social Security Number?

    - I-131 - Part 3 asked for a specific departure date, which I do not have. The question 7 asked if I want a multi-visit option, which I do want. So, what do I do? The form example doesn't specify. It put down a specific departure date, and lenght of visit.

That's about it for now. I still have the medical form to look at. It says that all I have to do is submit my vaccination suppliment. Is this the one I got from for the Interview (medicial examination) or will I have to see a US civil surgeon?

Thanks for all your help in advance!

Have I said lately how much I can't stand this paper work stuff!

Thanks for all your help in advance!

  4. I just got married this weekend and I am in the process of filling out the rest of my paper work. A little overwelming to say the least~!

    I have a few concerns:

    - My marrage certificate is really weird looking because it doesn't have a seal or anything. We got marriage at Court. Is this o.k?

    - Do I have to change my maiden name?

I'm sure that I will have more question's to come. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. My thanks in advance.

  5. My Visa was delivered today!

Mphys, I don't think you should worry about getting yours in time for your travel plans. My interview was Tuesday, and I received my package today, Friday. So, looks like Montreal is just slow with giving out interview dates - for now at least.

  6. We can organize a "Welcome to the Canadian Visa Journey meet and greet!"

The only membership requirement is that your not a crazy, internet stocker, and BAM! your in!

We can even advertise that our members are definitely not criminals (as per our police certificate), were in good health (proven by our medical examination - vaccinations and all), we have all be born (just look at our long version of our birth certificate), our significant others are financially stableish (all above the poverty line - I-134 - aren't we snobs!), and we have proven to be goal oriented, strong minded alien immigrants, that have an extreme ability to deal with bureaucratic ####### (the WHOLE ENTIRE PROCESS!!!). Once our membership expands, we can start chapters in other city's. Our crede could be "WE survived US Immigration - so take that Homeland Security!".

The only rules - Everyone will have to bring either Tim Horton's, Montreal bagels, real Maple Syrup, Coffee Crisp and Humpty Dumpty BBQ/Ketchup Chips. Of course, I am totally open to other home sweet home goods, but at least we will have a foundation of excellence - Us Canadians do have our superior standards!

Here is a funny note, for my wedding ceremony, I am asking each member of my family to bring a dozen Montreal bagels with them! All I have to do is find a freezer to store them and I am laughing!!!!!!!!!! I thought that was quite clever of me, it I do say so myself....hehehe

So, what do you all think?

  7. Sounds fun.

I'll be living in domestic hell until I get my get out of jail EAD card in the mail, so a break would be welcomed - so long as your not crazy, that is? Just joking :)

Good luck with your interview - one question, do you have your Birth Certificate "Copy of Act", its certified translation and notary seal?

Believe me, you don't want to go down my route!

  8. Sorry for the delay, my laptop was at the office and I had no access to a computer.

Firstly, THANK YOU ALL for the amazing support and guidance. I would not have been approved if you all didn't brow beat me into get the BC translated at 8PM Monday night and take a chance on it not be notarized. Really, from the bottom of my heart - Thank you. If your on-line names were so creative and plentiful, I would name my first born after you all - Here's a thought, what if I name her "Journey"? Probably not, since she probably be harassed in grad school too much! I guess the thought will have to count.

    oh ya, I WAS APPROVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honestly, no hassles about the BC. It was certified translated, but no notary. They didn't even question the commission.

    O.k this is what happened:

    I arrive a 7:45AM.

Apparently, my purse was too big - I told the lady, "but this is my 'small' purse!", she said, not small enough and too much ####### inside. I was like, but everyone needs lip gloss, an ipod, gum etc...? She says to get rid of it and come back with out. I went to a cafe, located on Rene-Leveque and attached to a hotel, and paid the manager $5.00 to hold it for me. I took out my wallet, and went back to the Embassy. I pass security and off I go.

I went to my designated window, and as luck would have it, I encountered the operator who got me my interview! So, be ware, be nice to the operators whom you speak with because they are the ones who collect your documents and forms! Plus, they actually remembered me - Thank goodness I was always polite and not rude or abrasive! Good Karma people!

She asked for my documents and copies of each.

    - DS-156K (signed in front of the Consulate officer/operator)

    - DS – 230 (2x copies)-(signed in front of the Consulate officer/operator)

    - Birth Certificate (copy of act), with translation (with seal) and a letter explaining the certification (2x)

    - Police certificate

    - 2 passport pictures

    - I-134 – copies of evidence if you do not want to give them the originals (they keep everything)

    - Fiancé letter of intent

    - Proof of ongoing relationship

    - Letter from consulate stating appointment date (packet 4 letter)

    - NOA2 (was not asked for)

    - Express post envelope (don’t forget to put in the return address and the tracking number!)

    - Passport

    - Medical exam (envelope asked for, but not the X-ray)

She gave me a sheet of paper, and told me to go pay the cashier and then bring back the paper and put in the window slot. After that, she said go sit down in the waiting room and wait to be called.

Did as she asked, and made a friend while I was waiting. Interesting guy, already married and moving to the USA. He actually had a interview date last September but was in NYC and couldn’t make it, and this was the date that they re-scheduled him! I told he was nuts and that I couldn’t imagine waiting any longer than I already did.

He was called first – approved. I was called after him – approved. The Officer asked me how we met, what my Fiance does, is it profitable. That’s it. Told me my file was very organized and is approved. I would expect my Visa and passport in a couple of days!

That’s it. No drama, no surprises, no problem! I left a little after 9:00AM.

Maybe I am used to Montreal hospitals, but the waiting room didn’t look busy and it appeared that they could handle more K-Visa applications – but what do I know, I was there at 8:00AM and left at 9:00AM. Maybe if they processed more interviews, it would take a long time to get our VISA back.

Funny thing is, I was expecting an interrogation – where I would be in front of someone, with a desk in front of me, being questioned about my fiancé toothpaste preference! I guess I watch too much Law and Order!

So, now all I have to do is pack up my life and move!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow, its amazing how focused I was on this interview, and now that it is finished, I have so much to do. Pack my life, in 1 week, sure no problem. Say good buy to loved ones – more difficult.

    Wow! It’s crazy.

I spent the rest of the day yesterday, on my couch, reading a book, and lying in the sun. Gorgeous day and very therapeutic!

Back at work, and obviously I am distracted. Do I really have to work the rest of my life? It seems to me to be redundant! Birth, taxes and death here I come.

  9. You'll never guess what happened. He made a mistake!!!!!!!!! I only noticed after I drove home, took off my jacket, started organizing my file, and had a cup of camomile tea!

I had to go back to his house and pick-up the corected version. I just got back.

Why is this happening to me? I'm trying not to picture my Fiance having a peaceful night, in front of the T.V.

  10. You mean, banks still open in the morning? People in a bank still exists? WOW! That would be a first for me - whenever I go, its never open! honestly.

My interview is a 9AM. What time do you think will be latest that I can arrive?

If I go to the bank, assuming its open, doesn't that translator have to be present? In Quebec, a notary is different than in other provinces.

What do you think? Will I have time? What time is the lastest to arrive for a 9AM interview?

  11. It would be too easy any other way!

"All documents not in English must be accompanied b a certified translations into English. Tranlsations must be certified by a compentent translator and sworn to by him before a Notary."

    GGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

What do you think? Still worth it to have it translated.

  12. I just got off the phone with a translater (certified). He will translate the doc ($40) tonight. BUT, it will not be notarized.

What do you think will happen? I'm definately tired. What till I tell you what I did today to get all this done - I still can't believe that I was able to get the Civil Status Director to produce my Birth Certificate in less than 1 DAY!!!!!!!!!!

It would have been too perfect if it was already in English!

  13. I do not have my long version of my Birth Certificate translated. In fact, I just recieved it today. I have my short version (wallet size), translated, certified and notarized.

    Interview is TOMORROW!

So here is my idea and I was wondering if anyone can give me their opinion.

I can have the long version translated tonight. But I can't have it notarized, plus the notary has to see the original birth certificate before he signs and seals the document.

What do you think will happen? The document will be translated but I will not have it notarized?
