Following. Arrived April 1, 2017. Going to my 3rd week here and still no ssn card

I would just go in to the SSA office and apply.  I am giving it until May 1st but my husband already received his GC no SSN card yet so best bet is to go in.  Give it a month so you don't duplicate it.

My husband is in El Salvador for adjustment of status he had his medical exam done on 2/27/2017 and had his interview on 3/3/2017. The interview went great but he has to wait for the exam results to officially be granted his visa. It is now 3/17/2017. Does anyone know how long we could have to wait for the results.

Normally the results should have been in by the time of his Interview.  Are they just waiting for the embassy to give it the ok?

If you haven't received after 2 weeks of arrival (and you have not) you will need to go to your local SSA office and apply. Fill out the application. They will check to see if you are in system and take your application. If no issues you should receive in 7 to 10 days after that.

Perfect thank you for the feedback!

  4. Hi Everyone,

My husband came to the US with a IR1 Visa on March 21st.  How long do we have to wait for his social security card to come in the mail?  We did check the box on the DS230 form for it to be mailed.  However, I have read that is not always reliable and we might have to go to the SSA office to apply in person.  I have seen outdated information on this topic so hoping someone has an update on how long it usually takes.  It will be 3 weeks since date of entry tomorrow.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  5. My husband has a big tattoo piece on his back. I am worried but it is not gang related I told him not to lie if they ask him during his interview.  The medical doctor may write that up as they inspect their body anyways so I would not lie if they ask but if it is not brought up I would just leave it alone.  I don't think they would deny him just because of that unless it is gang related.  Good Luck to you and your husband.

  6. Hi,

My husband has an interview in El Salvador March 13th.  We did all our paper work through an attorney but I just want to know I know the ins and outs of the immigration and Visa System as much as I can.  So we filed the I-130 that has been approved and we did the I-601 for his unlawful presence which was also approved as we proved hardship.  Now he has never gotten deported or had an order of deportation.  Do we need to file form I-212? Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Also, tips before the interview would also be helpful.

No nothing yet ? He went to the embassy twice last week but you can't go in without an appointment so he has an appointment on the 22nd of this month. Someone outside the embassy said he should allow 30 business days which is the end of this week. I just need him to come home ASAP. I miss him more than words can describe.

I hope all goes well and he comes home to you soon.  I understand what you might be going through.  My husband is leaving on March 1st just praying that everything goes well and he comes home soon! agh!

Hi, I actually just got off the phone with the embassy. The NVC website instructs you to go to their cgi to schedule the appointment there but the customer service rep told me that we are not required to register. I haven't received the confirmation email from the nvc about the appointment so I was waiting for that, in case the medical appointment required me to give some sort of number or info that was only on that confirmation email. Did you ask any questions?

So When I called the NVC they just gave me my appointment date but when I downloaded the pre-interview checklist it said we had to register with the VIC (Visa Information Center). I started to do that but I decided to wait until I get the interview letter since I have not gotten it either.  I have not called the embassy yet as I was just trying to figure out this whole medical appointment thing.  I want to travel with my husband since his in the states but I had to figure out the timing before I can get a clearance from my job.  Since his is a one way ticket to El Salvador we have to time it out so we  get everything he needs.  I will keep you posted once I get my interview letter. -_-

His brother called from El Salvador and the dr asked when my husband was arriving and then they said ok this is the day we can see him. He went 3 weeks before because he was around Christmas and New Years but I'm not sure what the normal time frame is.

Oh ok thanks.  None the less that is helpful information.  I think he is trying to go a week before his actual interview date so at least there is a week between his appointment and the interview.

That's so awesome and so quick! Our attorney sent an email this week and the date changed but still the same message. Hoping they are finally reviewing the papers now!

Oh man well I hope you hear something soon.  do you know how early your husband had to do his medical exam? We have to get my husband scheduled but i am not sure how long between doing the actually exam and getting it in time for the interview it takes.  Can you share time?
