  1. has anyone suggested marmite yet?

    Not yet... what is it?

It's a yeast extract, generally used to spread on sandwiches - people either love it or hate it (usually hate it!) You could also try Bovril, which is similar but a beef extract. I'm English and my American girlfriend organised an American/British party last year and the marmite was quite popular because there is nothing quite like it in the US. We also found some little cocktail sticks with Union Jacks so we could label the "foreign" food. Mince pies, crackers, twiglets, Wensleydale cheese (or any other English cheese), Battenburg cake and some good old Prawn cocktail crisps are also worth looking out for

  2. James,

What may cause you problems and delay is mailings from the consular section not getting to you because they were not sent to an address where you can receive them.

    Yodrak

Many thanks for the replies. MY address is unchanged, so I will still be able to receive mailings. The applicant (my wife to be, who lives in the US) has changed her address, but very recently so her mail is still being forwarded (so she can also receive mail).

I was just concerned that on my entry to the USA I am usually asked to provide an address of where I am staying and I wasn't sure if this has to be the same as the address on our original application.

  3. Hello,

We originally applied near the beginning of March and finally have my K1 interview on 15th December. My wife to be has very recently moved (about 2 weeks ago), do I inform the Embassy of this change of address or will it cause problems this late in the process?? As my interview is only 10 days before Christmas I'm obviously anxious to get over to the USA and spend the holidays with my lady and 2 children so I don't want to cause any delays. On the other hand I'm worried that if I keep quiet but on entry to the US say that I am staying at a different address than we one we entered on the forms then I'll have a problem entering the country. What do you think? Has anyone had a similar issue? Many thanks.

  4. I'm applying for a K1 and sent in my final checklist on 28th November. Today I got a reply from the Embassy and an interview date of 15th December, which was a bit of a shock because I had resigned myself to having to wait until after Christmas. So don't give up hope.

  5. Hello,

I wondered if anybody could help. A quick history of my situation: my wife-to-be lives in the US and I'm in the UK, I used the visitor visa/waiver to live with her for about a year (leaving every 90 days and spending a week or so in the UK before returning to the US). Obviously during this period I was unable to work as this is one of the restrictions of the visitor Visa. We applied for the K1 during my visit in March this year and I have been in the UK since the end of April. From May until now I have been doing some self-employed freelance work (web design) with customers from online freelance job-sites.

So, my question is this. How can I prove that I will not "become a public-charge"? I have no significant savings or funds. When I go to the United States I would like to continue working on a freelance/self-employed basis so I have no official "offer of employment". My freelance work has generated about £5,000 pounds in the last four months, but as I have only been doing it a short time I have no tax returns or similar official documents to prove my income. Would copies of my bank account statements showing the incoming payments be enough or will I need to get an affidavit of support?

Many thanks for any help and/or suggestions

    James
