  1. So I just got my finger prints taken last week and now I have changed my mind!! Im not sure I want to go through with this anymore. Im seriously thinking I want to call it a day and leave the US. Would I get a refund if I did this? Has anyone changed their mind after applying??

  2. It isn't three years from your date of entry but three years from the date on your Green Card which says "Resident Since".

We both both entered on the same day and my resident since date is the same as I came in on an IR-1 visa. So if you are a resident since 11-19-06 you can apply in August. The exact date is in my sig August the 21st I think.

As to how long go to the USCIS web site and look how how long N-400 applications take through your local office.

Thanks for the info ....How are you enjoying the USA?

  3. How long does it take generally from the day you apply to become a citizen until you are one? I live in upstate NY also if we moved to Maine would it make any difference it the length of time? It will be 3 years for me in November does that mean i can apply 3 months before oe would i need to wait until Nov? I will also be applying to lift conditions in May this year.

    Thanks

  4. Hi Guys

I am due to life my conditions on my 2 year green card the date is up in August and I am going to apply in May. Just wanted to get some feed back and confirmation. It costs $465 right? and I wonder how long it generally takes?? im in upstate NY. Also do i need my biometrics taken again the office already has 2 sets of my prints.

    Any advice would be great

    Thanks :)

  5. thanks to all of you who have replied and emailed me its encouraged me. I am still not sure what im gonna do yet. Its just good to hear im not going through all this alone it just feels like im the only one sometimes. People dont fully realise how hard it is unless you have been through it themselves.

hey girl, i m in the same position like u, i m here for 6 months and feel so trapped at home, no car, no job, no friends nothing, i creid a lot, sometimes i think is it worthed to leave all my family and friends for that.... i still dont know the answer...but i m trying to keep patient, my husband is really suportive... so i recommend u dont give up yet, give it one more try.... at least wait for your green card, cause if u leave now theres no coming back and u may regret that for the rest of your life....
  6. thanks leney and for all who asked im from Glasgow. Yes my husband is really at work all the time he got a new job that takes him away from home longer im not just having a bad day and typing frantically its really a fact. He is all i have here all his friends have moved away and and he doesnt have a big family.

Oh hun, I know things seem so horrible right now. I know how restricted and annoyed my hubby feels at times (and I know how I felt when I was in the UK at times). Thankfully the PA countryside reminds him a lot of home, so when he's feeling down, we go out, ride around, or go for long hikes in the mountains on one of the trails. All I heard yesterday was how much he felt like he was back in Scotland and how happy he was, and it was so wonderful. Have it out with your man, get him to make the effort. Maybe I'm ultrasensative but I do everything I can for my hubby to make him feel at home, from using Paisley slang around the house for him or when making shopping lists, to making his favourites like tattie scones and big fry ups. Surely if your husband knows the extent of your feelings he would do more to make you feel at home.

I know nothing is like the real thing, and with everything that happened this past weekend it is easy to just want to go and be with your family, but having been in the exact opposite situation, being in Scotland, 6 months pregnant, and actually packing it in, coming back to the USA, and in retrospect making a decision that made somethings easier on me, and some things much much more difficult for our family - I know it's hard, but stick it out at least until you have your GC, just in case - you don't want to have to go through all of this again should you decide in a few years time you want to come back.

That's my penny's worth. My heart really goes out to you and I wish I could do something to help you. Don't ever hesitate to contact me if you need a shoulder.

  8. The whole thing sucks they wouldnt even give me a SSN for medical insurance so i have no medical insurance either. No one seems to know what there doing at the SSN and its too late now to do anything about it. Cant say its been a pleasant experience ive hated every minute of it.

fwaguy/Karly n Bruce - you're both right. I somehow managed to overlook where she said she'd been here for 8 months.

But it peeves me when people who have been here for 3 weeks or so on a K1 are told by idiot SSA workers that they're 'not eligible' to get a SSN.

I agree we shouldn't have to know a person's job more than they do. However, when we have chosen to navigate the immigration process ourselves it is in our best interest to do so. Knowledge is King!

  9. Where in New York do you live? Perhaps you could make some friends here to meet up with, I think there's a fair amount of New Yorkers here. Maybe there's some local groups or classes that you could somehow become involved in, depending on your interests?

You could quit at any time - you are not forced to stay here. But without AP or a greencard it won't be easy for you to come back if you decide you miss your husband and want to give it another shot. Maybe your husband could help find a way to get you through this... if you live on Long Island I'd gladly hang out with you, if not hopefully you'll be able to find New Yorkers more local to you here. thats nice of angilla

nice idea of making some nice frnds :)

I cant drive or work because i dont have a SSN a huge big mess i went to get one when i first came and they couldnt give me it because we were not married. Then i went back to get it when we were and they said i was not in the system i had to wait until i got my green card the woman said she couldnt do anything about it and laughed in my face . The K1 has just been a nightmare for me from start to finish the recent episode is i need to get the varcella jag they wont take my word for having chicken pox twice. Im just so so tired of it sll. My husband knows how i feel but he says were almost done. I just feel i cant take it anymore. I live in upstate New York Albany.

  10. Hey

there guys just wondered if anyone has come this far and quit. I am really homesick and just really want to call it a day. I am not enjoying my life here in NY at all ive cried most of the time being here as i miss Scotland I have no friends and family here and hate feeling so trapped. I have been here 8 months and just feel nothing is changing. I have return flight in sept im very tempted to just go back home ive had enough of dealing with all the paper work and not being able to work or drive and have a life its making me really depressed. I have no freedom in the USA which is so ironic in the land of the free.

  11. hey there

I had an info pass appointment last friday and the lady was great you dont know until you get there depends on the person.

Yes, definitely go to the interview.

As for the Infopass... My experience with them was terrible. They are incompetent, ignorant, and have no idea what they are doing. Well, as long as your local office is not San Jose, maybe you'll get lucky.

  12. Hello there

Just wondered if anyone can reccommend a good state to live in. My husband and I are planning to move once we get my green card. We currently live in Albany New York. We find the taxes too high and cost of living and homes getting more expensive I think we could do better elsewhere. I miss being close to the ocean so somewhere within 1 hour of the sea would be great. I love the look of New England been to Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire but visiting is one thing living there is different. Any suggestions would be great. My husband currently works for the state im not sure if he can transfer to another state job somwehre else or would have to start again does anyone know??

    thanks

  13. Hello dear fellows

Just wanted to ask anyone in the same place us how long now ahould we have left to wait until we get my green card. We filed Jan this year and were doing ok until last week we got sent a letter for I-693 we think anyway we had a whole list of things i had already sent them and nothing was specifically marked out. We made an info pass appointment on firday to get things clarified and the immigration lady said i dont need the I-693 at all just photocopy all my documents and send them again incase they got misplaced. She said if my medical is recent ( 12 months) i should not need any more documents for that including I-693. But according to visa journey this is what i need to send them???? Confused yes so are we anyways to cut a long story short we are awaiting the I-693 coming back i got it just incase thats what they want and we also copied my documents again (3rd time) to send back to them. After sending all this back to them and assuming thats all they need how long should the wait be from here with the delays??? We were moved to CSC in march. Im so tired of waiting :( If i know now what i do i would have come across the mexican border - seems to work for some :)

  14. You take that list of vaccinations from your doctor back home, to a US Civil Surgeon and the US doctor will transfer them to a vaccination supplement.

I recomend bringing a copy of the I-485 instructions with you to the doctor so you can point at the part that only a supplement is needed for K-visa holders, along with the RFE. They wont insist on a full medical and the fee to do the supplement is $20-$40 typically.
