Iv just read your question and I'm so happy to know I can actually help you with this.... the good news is I'm currently in London going to my interview tomorrow and I flew over with my drivers lincense as my I.d instead off passport so I know I'm safe to fingers crossed have my passport kept tomorrow in hope they say yes to my k1 application.... good luck in January with your interview but you don't need to worry flight staff on easy jet were v happy to check driver license as my I.d ?
Can you receive your passport back on the same day as your interview?
