Some of the people I know the SS card came by itself through mail because they apply for it through their DS 260 electronic application IV . Even in the website of SS it's written that one can apply through their IV application and those who donot apply through IV application online has to visit their office on person as the SS Office has no information about whereas if you aply through IV application they ask you wether you want USCIS to disclose you information to Social Security service and if you agree all the inforation about you is transferred to SS office and once you enter US the immigration DEPT informs them automatically and your card gets ready and posted through mail .So no need to go to their office I believe. What do you think?

Thank for the replies. This is what I have understood that since I have requested on my visa application for the SS NO. , so I don't need to go to any SS office in person and apply for it .My SS card will come now automatically in the post .I think that makes sense.

Can I apply for SS no.from my home country before entering US.
