We filed I-130 for my wife's son on January 22, 2023 and we are still waiting for the approval.  He is 28 years old unmarried.

I have no idea what's taking so long so I thought I would come back to this site and see if there are others in this position.

Is there anything we can do?

I'm in much the same position - also filed for my adult unmarried stepson in Jan 2023 and the online status is the same as yours.

Most of the participants here are for spouses which has much shorter processing time compared to an adult child - for an adult child it takes a few years and there isn't much you can do about that.

I thought I would post our timeline as I found it super useful from others:

Submitted 12th Jan 2023 (Nebraska transferred to California)

    Approved 11th Dec 2023

NVC welcome letter 8th Jan 2024

    Docs submitted 11th Jan 2024
    Documentarily Qualified 17th Jan 2024

The welcome letter took a lot longer than NVC published with their processing dates, but our documents being reviewed was quicker.

Was that for a child, spouse, .....?

    Country????

In my checklist I was told to bring the missing document to the interview. Does this mean case complete?

My check list instructed that I bring the Aus police clearance to the interview, and one doc I had to send a copy to the NVC and take the original to the interview.

What you have is not case complete yet, but it shows that it will be very soon.

You should receive your packet in the mail within 10 business days. Holidays tend to increase the wait time though.

Like always advised, better not to pay for flight tickets until you receive your packet.

    Cheers!!

The stock answer is 7 to 10 working days, but my own experience at the London Embassy and Cape Town Consulate, it's typically 3 to 5 days.

I phoned the Doctor in Johannesburg and they said my medical is on a Monday and your medical exams and x-ray will be picked up on Wednesday, the day before the interview. The receptionist said it will be there for the interview.

It looks like I have all the paperwork ready.

I have the travel documents signed for my son by his father but both our names are on there not sure should it just be the one parent that he travels with or both parents names. I also have 4 different types of layers from the father approving of the move to USA.

My fiance is also divorced and was told he prints his divorce decree bit I'm concerned it need a special stamp or something?

My son changed preschools and developed a runny nose and a slight cough we are medicating him but will this affect the medical to be done in Jozi?

    I'm so stressed out lol.

Your sons father would need to sign that letter of consent to leave South Africa permanently in front of a commissioner of oaths (Police station) - it needs only his fathers name and his name - it would have your name on it because it authorises only  you to take him out of country, and for the processing of his immigrant visa.

Who told your fiance that a computer print of his divorce decree is acceptable - Its not.

    https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/immigrate/immigrant-process/documents/Supporting_documents.html

If you were previously married, you must obtain evidence of the termination of EVERY prior marriage you have had. Your evidence must be an original or certified copy of one of the following documents:  FINAL legal divorce decree, death certificate, or annulment papers.

    • Send a photocopy of your marriage termination document(s) to NVC.
    • Bring the original termination document(s) plus a photocopy to your visa interview at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate.

For country-specific guidelines on how to obtain acceptable marriage termination documents, use the Document Finder above.

Your sons cold should not be a problem for the medical check, but a quick phone call to Dr. Hoosen would be wise.

Do you have your appointment letter? - read it, it will state:

All civil documents must be original, i.e., they must be issued by the relevant government authority, with their seal of office affixed.  Photocopies of documents even certified copies are not acceptable

Is your son on the petition?

    Congratulations on your approval.

Please could you share questions asked? I have EB interview coming up soon to.

    Thanks.

    Thanks.

They had a 10 inch tall pack for me from the NVC.

At the first window they collected the original copies of the documents I was told to bring, Police Clearances for 4 countries, SA army record, marriage certs, divorce decrees, etc., then a short wait for the interview at the next window.

He asked to see my previous L-1A in my old passport, he just took a quick look at that, then asked the name of my  new US employer, and then announced our (my wife and I) approval.

Now waiting for the DHL tracking so that I can book the earliest flights out.

  9. You appear to be asking the same question in multiple threads, folks respond, and you don't, just ask the same in a new thread.

AS far as I can tell the CSC is running at around 5 months.

Doesn't it go from the CSC to the NVC ?

You said that you have an appointment for your medical - usually Dr Hoosan won't book you without confirming that you have an interview appointment letter.

  10. I have the same question for the Johannesburg Consulate - My immigrant visa was approved yesterday 21 Feb and hoping to receive it in around 3 days.

Ours is shipped using DHL and when they contact me I plan to request and pay overnight service.

I have had L-1 visas from the London and Cape Town consulates arrived in 2 and 3 days respectively.

Please fill in your profile detail and timeline.

  11. I had my interview in the Johannesburg Consulate today Tuesday 21 Feb 2017, and was approved.

I was asked only one question, "what's the name of your US employer", answered that, and shortly after was told my application is approved and passports will be returned using DHL in about 7 days.

Does anyone here know the typical time to receive the passports, and is there a way of contacting DHL to pay for next day service?

So I see there is an estimated theory on Nov/DEC petitions that CSC is busy with for noa2 its been nearly 3 months and no RFEs has been requested from my fiance is this a good sign?as we have done everything thouroughly and did it to USCIS expectations.

AS far as I can tell the CSC is running at around 5 months.

Doesn't it go from the CSC to the NVC ?

  13. I was very happy with the Doctor in Cape Town and required only one day, and that means only one flight vs Dr Hoosan who requires two trips

I think that you have too little time from the medical to interview.

The JHB doctor Hoosan collects all medicals and sends them to the Consulate once a week, so depending on the day of the week of your second day at the doctor, your medical may not reach the consulate in time for your interview.

Call the doctors office and confirm with them if they'll have your medical results at the Consulate in time for your interview.

Your son - he should have been included in the petition, and had the medical done, if not, the interview will only address your immigrant visa.  He would need a notorised letter from his father allowing him to leave SA permanently. How old is your son?

Divorce Decree:  Your finance will need an original copy from the court or official office that awarded the divorce.

Below is an excerpt from the appointment letter - didn't you get one?

Thank u for ur reply i already send the packet to nvc its like 1 month ago but they did not response yet ?

Sorry, submitting the DS-260 and send in the document package are not the same thing.

The NVC take 6 to 8 weeks after receiving the document package and its only been 4 weeks.

  15. https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/law-and-policy/bulletin/2017/visa-bulletin-for-january-2017.html

Take a look at that link, and being from Pakistan you would fall under "All Chargeability Areas Except Those Listed" then check your visa category.

NVC will only start processing your case when your Priority Date becomes current, and once they complete your case (6 to 8 weeks) they'll schedule the interview which could be 2 to 3 months later.

anyway, my question now that the document is back in their hands, is how much longer will the rest of the entire process take?  if we left immediately when he gets his visa/passport in hand?  another 3 months at least, if we don't run into anymore issues?  it'd be good to give my work a bit of a heads up - maybe not of when i will leave, but a "i will still be here for at least ______ more months" courtesy.

    appreciate the help!

The NVC state that you should allow "up to six weeks" once they receive the response to their checklist for Case Complete, then two weeks for them to schedule the interview and send the package to the Consulate (potential 8 weeks).

Then depending on the work load at your Consulate, you might wait 6 to 10 weeks for the interview (my wait is 7 weeks).

So yes, your estimate of 3 months is correct, ........ but disappointing.

    100ron,

Thats really good news. Have they set an interview date for you? No news for me yet.

In my case the NVC did not set the interview date, they just rushed my case file to the Consulate.

My case file arrived at the Consulate on 28 Dec 2016, but only received attention yesterday due to the staff being off on their Christmas and New Year holidays - after talking to them yesterday they confirmed my appointment date, 21 Feb 2017, sent my appointment email.

I was hoping for an earlier appointment, but that's the earliest they could give me.

I'm still grateful that the Senator got the NVC to move it along, as who knows, I could still be waiting for them without an interview date.
