Just to follow up on this, the consulate never asked to see the expired passport or previous visa, nor did they want to see any secondary evidence whatsoever. Approved Phew!

I was just there a week ago and can tell you that it was a dwecent experience. ASC took literally 5 minutes, Medical was about a 3 hours wait and consulate interview was about a 3 hour wait also.
After approval, it took 2 days to receive the passport with visa and mystery envelope. Didnt get a chance to write a full review yet...
