    Hm, tricky. It's kind of a shame that Canada doesn't have passport cards like we do in the US.

    My hunch is that the Canadian side would probably be more understanding but I feel the US side of the border wouldn't like this at all.

    Also, how would she fly from Montreal to NYC without a passport? It's considered an international flight, right? I'm assuming they would check passports, as it would be necessary at the port of entry.

    Yeah, its kind of tough as i feel it may just be the border guard's discretion in understanding the situation.

    I'm just not sure what our 'file' / status appears on the computer screen when we are crossing... I'm wondering if it will somehow change at the time her Visa is approved.

    AirCanada allows the use of either a Passport or the NEXUS card to board the flight (confirmed on their website).

    When we drive to and from vancouver<->seattle, we only have to show them our nexus card to cross.

    This is an option too... as we are also contemplating on perhaps driving across. The only downside is if we are rejected we would have to find a flight back home on a short notice;

  2. Hello!

    My wife has a interview scheduled at the US Embassy in Montreal at the end of this month. We have done everything we need to do and our prepared for it.

    She lives in Vancouver, BC and I live in Seattle, WA. Since the interview is all the way in Montreal, we thought it would be nice to do a little travelling while we are out on the east coast.

    Our ideal itinerary would be the following:

    Seattle -> MTL (interview), spend a few days in MTL, -> fly to NYC, spend a few days in NYC -> fly back home to Seattle.

    The plan being, after we are in seattle, she would drive back up to vancouver to receive her passport at the courier destination (post office) then make her first trip down to the USA using her immigration visa (if approved at the interview).

    The complication we are facing: if the interview is successful and her visa approved, we are told that the embassy will keep her Passport to modify it for first time entry as an immigrant into the USA.

    This is an issue but a small one as we are also both NEXUS global travelers and use the NEXUS card when visiting between USA/CANADA-- we were planning on using these to travel from MTL to NYC (the montreal airport has a nexus travel station).

    The main thing is that we do not want to screw anything up by taking our vacation... but at the same time, i don't see how taking a vacation while the passport gets modified should interfere in any way with the process once approved.
    We have tried numerous times to contact the USA/CA border as well as the embassy to no avail. Does anyone on here know anything ?

    Thanks!
