IR-2 is a derivative visa, so must have IR-1 for a parent first.
I'm sure someone will give other input, as well.
, or even
That's interesting to know that. Is that always the case? In the case of wife (child's natural Mom) is a green card holder or a naturalized USC or even already deceased, IR-1 is not needed. Is IR-2 still a derivative visa from IR-1?
More discussion welcome. Thanks.

Basic but important. Petitoner (and foreign wife; they got married before the step-cild reached 18) prefer to stay in the foreign country, but want to get the 19-year-old step-child immigarted to US. In other words, can we file IR-2 application without filing IR-1? Is the citizen step-father required to go to US?
Thanks.

Use box 22 of the 1040. The amount on the I-864 must match this amount.
Another question just came up. I did have a very small income in 2009 and filed a joint return w/ my husband.
Let's say I made $1oK and my husband made $40K. So the amount in box 22 of the 1040 is $50K, the total income of my husband and myself.
Is that correct that I put $10K on my I-864 and my husband put $40K on I-864A?

Darnell: I-864 instructions say "My total income (adjusted gross income on IRS Form 1040EZ) as reported on myFederal tax returns..."
Trailmix: As so said on I-864, yes, I believe box 22 of the 1040 (Total Income) is the amount I need to put on I-864.
Thank you both so much. You did clear up my confusion.

I don't think you can use I-864EZ. You should use I-864 since your husband will file out I-864A.
Thank you so much. One additional question:
What should I put for the income of last 3 years? Is that the amount on W2 box 1(Salary) or box 2(social security wage) or something on 1040 ...? (Worked for only 1 employer).

I'm applying IR-5 visa for my parents. I-864 Affidavit of Support is one of the required document to complete.
I have a couple of questions in filling out the form.
1) I have/had no income (but filed joint tax return w/ my husband who will complete I-864A).
Can I use I-864EZ instead of I-864?
2) Item 19 of I-864EZ, "My total income (adjusted gross income on IRS Form 1040EZ) as reported on my Federal tax
returns for the most recent three years was:",
Should I put '0' or put the amount shown on the joint tax returns (which is solely my husband's income)?
I'd appreciate it if anyone can help.[/size]

I'm a US citizen Mom and plan to petition my son (older than 21) and his wife (both living overseas now) for immigration. USCIS does give some information on how to petition my son, but gives very very little on his family. Instruction on I-130 doesn't provide more help either.
A few questions. Will appreciate any help.
1) It seems only 1 single I-130 is needed for petitioning the whole family of my son. Means only one application fee needed?
2) What forms other than I-130 are needed? G-325A? I know I-864 will be needed later for NVC.
3) The evidence of my son's marriage needs to be submitted? When?
4) Son's wife has divorced before. Need to submit her divorce document? When?
IR2 w/o IR1 possible?
