Thank you.   My priority date is the end of July 2015 and I applied for AOS around the same time as you. I should receive the letter soon then. Did they ask you bring a new medical to the interview ? Mine is expired too. I am just waiting  for the interview letter to renew it.

They did not ask for the new medical in advance.  But when we met the IO, the first thing the IO said asked was the new medical.  You MUST bring the new medical for sure if it is expired.

    Hi halo101,

I am glad everything went smooth in the interview. When is your priority date and when did you apply for AOS? I also applied through Houston. I am trying to figure out how much longer I need to wait. I sent my AOS application October 2016 and got my combo card but my case became current in June 2017.  I didn't hear anything yet about the interview.

    Thank you

I think you will receive the interview notification very soon.  Our priority date was the end of June 2015 and we applied for AOS in the very beginning of Oct 2016.  Don't forget to bring a new medical if expired.  We just got a renewed EAD with AP last week and approval notice of AOS by mail yesterday.  We have not received the actual card yet.

  3. Glad to get AOS approved on spot after the interview .  We arrived 40 min early and waited about 30 min at the waiting area.  Then in the office, the kind IO went through basic questions with my wife and asked the new medical which was expired.  Other than that, she did not ask any additional questions and we were able to take off in 5 min.

So, you do NOT need to maintain the legal status after applying for AOS unless you foresee any complicated issues.  She acknowledged a huge backlog in Houston area, but seems that they are working hard around the clock.  Make sure you prepare well from the beginning and bring medical if expired.

wow that is a long time. Are you saying that they won't schedule the interview unless your priority date is current?

The interview date varies a lot based on the location.  My priority date was "current" about 6 month ago.  You won't get an interview within a year even if you are a spouse of US citizen in HOUSTON.

so you are no longer on F-1 status, right? did you discuss this with an Immigration lawyer to check if it is ok or not to be out of status with AOS pending?

Also, is there an issue travelling with AP?

Dropping F-1 status after filing AOS is not a problem unless you fail the interview later.   One will have "I-485 pending status".  Some people recommend to maintain another legal status just in case one fail the interview.  Lots of people with similar situation reported no issues with AP travel.

Again, it is YOUR CHOICE and responsibility.  You just have an option.

We just have our interview scheduled on Nov.  I will report the result later.

    Renewal EAD

If you are still eligible for employment authorization but your EAD will be expiring or has expired, you should file for a renewal EAD by submitting a new Form I-765 and filing fee (if required), unless a fee waiver is requested and approved. Generally, you should not file for a renewal EAD more than 180 days before your original EAD expires.

  7. Happy to report that the EAD was delivered today. Got the notice of Mailing on the 18th (Friday, late afternoon), but by looking at the tracking, it was picked up by USPS on the 21st (Monday). And it was delivered today the 23rd (Wed, Kansas to TX). You will get the below notice from USCIS website on the day of delivery. Have a happy Thanksgivings!

On November 23, 2016, the Post Office delivered your new card for Receipt Number MSCxxx, to the address that you gave us. The tracking number assigned is xxx. You can use your tracking number at www.USPS.com in the Quick Tools Tracking section. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

Got USCIS update notification about EAD card "mailing" today on 11.18. I will report again once I get the card in my hand.

Now I need to wait several months for interview (F2A category, Priority date on 6.28.2015). We got married on 5.1.2015, so if we get the interview after 5.1.2017 (in Houston), we will get 10 year green card, right?

Hope everyone else gets theirs on time.

Got USCIS update notifications this morning. I765 /I131 approved and EAD card production with AP on 11.14.2016. I guess early October filers advance faster than expected!

    Quick Time Line

    9.30.2016: Mailed I-485 package

    10.2.2016: Received at Chicago Lockbox

11.4.2016: Bio Walkin (originally scheduled on 11.7)

11.14.2016: EAD card production (with AP)

  9. Received the famous three text messages 11.34 pm last night. Very happy.

Some details after checking USCIS website using their tracking numbers

    USPS tracking number

Mine was arrived on the 2nd.

USCIS 3 tracking numbers (received texts on the 17th)

    1. I765 received on the 3rd

    2. I131 receveid on the 3rd

    3. Biometric fee was charged on the 14th.

Check is being cashed on 18th.

Is it normal not to have a separate tracking number for I-485? I understand the finger print is a part of I-485.

  10. Thanks for the help, NigeriaorBust. But once she use EAD from I-485, her status as F-1 goes away anyway.

Have you seen any person who got denied because he/she did not maintain F-1 "after I-485" filing? My understanding is that a new status (I don't know exact name) is given with which one can live here in the States legally. Once I-485 is denied at the end, it is a whole different story.

  11. Based on I've been reading for the last two years, it is LEGALLY OK to quit school once you file I-485. You also need to let your school know your I485 filing so that SEVIS can be updated. But it is strongly recommended to maintain F-1 status just in case your I-485 is denied which still has a small chance of possibility. If you can live with this small chance of I-485 denial, you may do so. Again, the above is from what I've been reading from many forums.

My case is similar. I just sent my I-485 based on filing date (I-130 PD 6.29.2015). My foreign wife is graduating this fall and adjusting from F1. Because I filed I-485, work permit, and advance parole two weeks ago, she is not planning to apply for OPT (again, I understand the risk of small possibility of denial) once we get the receipt notice.

Please let me know if I am going to wrong direction. Thank you for your help in advance
