  1. I have no idea if this is the place to ask this question, or if it even belongs in this forum at all, but I am hoping someone is able to help me!

Background:  My husband and I were both born in Canada and are still Canadian Citizens.  My husband is also a Naturalized U.S Citizen, and I'm a U.S Permanent Resident.  We reside in the U.S.

We recently adopted our son (who was born in the U.S) and officially have his new birth certificate that shows my husband and I as his parents, with his new name.

My question is - is our son automatically a Canadian citizen because both his parents (my husband and I) are Canadian citizens?  Or - how do we go about obtaining our son's Canadian citizenship so that he will hold both Canadian and U.S citizenship?  Is there an application to fill out, etc. ?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance!

That was the verbiage for my case status as well, and it followed with the 18 month extension in the mail. Your only way of truly knowing what your letter says is to actually receive and review the letter. I’d recommend signing up for USPS informed delivery - you can preview incoming mail each day so you know what’s coming.

Phew!!! Thank you! Also I had no idea you could do that through USPS. Going to sign up for that now!

  3. Hi all. When I check my status online it says this....

"On January 14, 2020, we received your Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, Receipt Number SRC[number], and sent you the receipt notice that describes how we will process your case. Please follow the instructions in the notice."

Does this mean it was extended the 18 months? When I called USCIS they said it was mailed out on 1/16 but haven't recieved it in the mail yet. Hoping to get it Tuesday since tomorrow is a holiday.

  4. Mailed my form on 1/10, received at the Texas lockbox on 1/14, got receipt # and NOA was mailed out on 1/16.  Hoping it will be here in the next few days!  FYI - if you have a receipt number, that means it was accepted and extended the 18 months :)  I wish it actually said that when you check the status online!

Also, I can't believe the amount of things you all send!  I sent the form, a few things that show both of our names on bank statements and a home equity loan, and like 4 photos lol.

  5. I am completely FREAKING out over here.  We sent my form to remove conditions on the expiration day on my GC.  We did 2 day priority, but of course it arrived 4 days later.  I am hoping and praying that because the signature date on my form is 10 days prior to the expiration, and the date on the check is prior to the expiration date, that it will be ok.  I didn't even think to just attach something saying why it was being sent on the date.  Technically it was all done and sent by the expiration date 😩 It was delivered on Jan. 14th, and I'm calling USCIS every day to find out if there is a receipt number yet so that I can look it up online.  Please say a prayer that they won't make a big stink about it.  I will definitely be applying for my citizenship WAY ahead of time!

  6. I am currently awaiting my interview for my permanent residency, which won't be until around February (based on information from USCIS current time frame).

Question for anyone who has RECENTLY applied for the I-131 for "ADVANCED PAROLE DOCUMENT FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE CURRENTLY IN THE UNITED STATES."

I am applying based on humanitarian reasons. I want to go home for Christmas and be able to spend it with my last grandparent, who is older and not in good health. It says that I need to submit "Documentation of a family member’s serious illness or death." Has anyone submitted and been approved recently WITHOUT documentation and just a letter from yourself explaining your reason? And what exactly do they mean by documentation? A letter from a doctor?

    TIA!
  7. I came to the U.S on March 20th on the K1 visa, we got married March 26th, and a few weeks later filed for my Adjustment of Status and Employment Authorization.

They received everything on April 21st and it is my understanding that you receive your Employment Authorization within 90 days.  90 days will be this Thursday July 20th and I still have not received anything in the mail.  Has anyone else had experience with receiving it later than the 90 days?

Also, what are the steps once I do receive it? Do they send you a specific card? Do I get a Social Security number right away with it?  Can I start working immediately after receiving it in the mail?

    Thanks!

I am trying to apply for AOS now.  a few confusing things?  Do i submit another affadavit of support?  I thought i submitted one with my K-1 packet? Where do we mail these?  Chicago or Arizona? Is there a link with steps explained somewhere?

It's a different Affidavit of Support (I-864) with the AOS.  Here is the form and instructions... https://www.uscis.gov/i-485

  9. Hi!

I finally have booked my interview appointment at the consulate in Montreal on February 22nd! Does anyone have any tips on where to stay, or how to make the trip a little less hard on our wallets?

    Thanks!

How did you book your interview?? I called the NVC and got my case number today, however, the Embassy in Montreal hasn't sent out my packet yet. Do I have to wait to get it in the mail, or can I go ahead and make my interview date? I'm curious to know how long of a wait it will be from the time I schedule it to the actual interview date. When I check my case number online it says it's ready for met to schedule my interview date. It's impossible to actually talk to a human being when calling the Embassy in Montreal!

  10. Hi everyone! New here! We sent our paperwork Oct 3rd, and received NOA1 by text/email yesterday!

I'm Canadian and hoping it won't take longer than the 5 months to receive the visa!!! Even though my fiancé and I only live 8 hours away from each other, it's been a long couple of years of Skype life and traveling back and forth! lol

Can someone explain to me what the NOA2 is?? I'm not sure what all the codes mean lol
