ah good, at least i know i can get the insurance fast, even if it won't cover me for a while, the less waiting the better! (provided that we can afford it, which we probably can't..) i was worried it'd have to wait until two years after we got married or something like that.
and no, jon is not here with me unfortunately, he is at home trying to get a better job so we can apply - and he can't afford to get insurance or anything like that at the moment

sorry, i should have specified a little more.
i'm an australian citizen, my fiance is the USC and yes, he will be the one filing for the visa, and he has no health insurance so i cannot be added to his plan since there is none. so basically i need to know how long it would take me to be able to apply for individual health insurance after arriving in the US on a fiance visa.. i'm hoping just after marriage but really have no clue..
and i would love to get it treated here but treatment is at least a two year process and we could not handle being apart that long, this is hard enough as it is..
thanks for your replies,
ell.

hi all,
was just hoping someone here could help me with a question, i want to apply for a fiance visa but have been diagnosed with pars planitis recently (an eye disease). i need to know how soon i'd be able to get medical insurance after moving over to the US as there's a good chance i'll need to get it treated, it's a rather longterm thing, could possibly clear up on it's own but it's unlikely. also now i'm really worried that i won't pass the medical exam required to be approved, even though besides that my health is perfect and i even had a clear chest x-ray done recently. i'm living in australia now, and it wouldn't cost so much to be treated here, neither i or my fiance want to live here, but we're rather low on cash and there's no way we could afford it without insurance in the US... also worried that i might not be able to get insured for a pre-existing condition... so depressed and stressed out about this.
anyone have any clues?
thanks,
ell.

Hi,
I was going to start a new thread, but figure I may as well ask here since this is pretty related. My fiance (who is the USC) has a criminal record, three convictions to do with controlled substances (one for alcohol and two for marijuana), he was 16-17 at the time and is now 19. Would anyone have an idea on how much this will impact the application? Should we get a lawyer?
Haven't been able to start the whole process yet since we're both currently unemployed - I've technically got a job but waiting for there to be actual work to do, he didn't complete HS so needs a GED to get another job. Waiting sucks! Also, I'm 23 (24 in a couple of months), think the age difference is going to impact? A little off-topic but oh well.

(PS: I'm new here but have been reading every inch of this site for the past couple of days and have already got some great tips, this is a a damn good site.. hi everyone
)
Welcome! He will need to disclose the convictions when you file the K-1. He will also be asked to provide certified copies of court and police records for these cases. The consular officer is then required to disclose these convictions to you at your embassy interview. These are not grounds for denying your visa. The age difference is nothing to worry about.
Thanks, I hope you're right!

Hi all,
Already posted in the K1 general forum since there was a topic started that i had a few questions about (criminal background), but thought i'd better post here too. Been scanning the faq section and guides and all so hopefully i won't ask too many stupid questions! Haven't started the process yet since I got back from visiting my fiance less than a week ago and we're both technically unemployed at the moment, so I've been working on gathering as much information and as many tips as possible (so much good stuff here i couldn't find elsewhere).
But yeah, HI!

sponsor's household..?
in US Embassy and Consulate Discussion

Hi,
I'm a little confused after trying to find out about the Affidavit of Support. Might be a silly question but I'm having trouble finding the answer to it... Can anyone tell me what the deal is if the sponsor is currently living with parents? From what I'm reading it seems like the sponsor needs to earn 125% of the poverty margin for the whole house, does this really apply if they're currently living with parents who have more than enough money to support themselves?
The parents might cosponsor (I'm the alien fiance), which I know the whole household would be included in and that's fine, plenty of money there, but if the whole household is really included in my fiance's sponsoring of me then he's goign to have to move out.. if that makes sense... The plan is to move out when I get over there, to conserve money until then.
Anyone know what the deal is?
Thanks,
Ell.
