  1. Hello Everyone,

The premise of this post is just to understand the whole process of applications going to specific service centers. This is just for my knowledge.

A little bit of my background.....

I am a Naturalized US citizen. When I applied for my GC I was living in California and subsequently moved to Texas. While living in Texas I applied for citizenship and was granted citizenship.

Now, I have applied the I130  for my unmarried son who is currently living in India. I did receive the I797C and I noticed a couple things....

The envelop says the I797C was posted to me from the USCIS MO location, but at the bottom of the letter it says California Service Center.

Again this is just for my knowledge....

Do these applications get assigned to the state in which I was living in when i got my GC or are these applications randomly assigned to the various USCIS locations ?

    Thank you in advance.

  2. Thank you all for your responses. I do have another question though.....

I have received a letter from the USCIS that my application has been accepted / received and I have a case/application number. How soon after the USCIS receives the application does one get the letter to get Biometrics done? Online info  says about 8 to 11 weeks after application is received, the Biometrics is requested. Is this accurate?

    Thanks.

  3. Thanks Shwee, i figured the officer was being evasive. I'm here for another 2 weeks and I'm pretty sure that may not be enough time. Also, the fee is $100 lesser that when applying in the US. 🤔 wonder why?

    Thanks again.

  4. Hello Everyone,

I am a US citizen of Indian origin currently in India on a multiple entry tourist visa which expires on August 31st 2023. I went to the local FRRO office wanting to get my OCI and I was turned down. The officer told me that since I was on a tourist visa I could NOT apply for the OCI. I found this to be a bit odd and of course they refused to explain any further. If anyone has any info on this matter please share.

Also, how long is the processing time for OCI in the Indian Embassy Houston Texas?

    Thanks in advance.

  5. Replying to khwaidee1...

In 2007 My card was taken away from me by a USCIS officer at the time of interview when I had gone in to get "conditions removed" and at that time my card was NOT expired.

After the interview she told me she was going to keep the card and will not give it back to me!!! did not explain why.

My battle with the system has gone on for about 10years and finally in June of 2016 my case was approved by the USCIS JUDGE as well as the USCIS Officer I interviewed with. I had applied for a continuance on my case that was moved from So Cal to Texas. Both the judge and the officer agreed that my case should NOT have been so long drawn at all! Besides a case transfer I had also applied a new application presenting more evidence and such.

Just a few minutes ago I saw that my "new card is being produced" as my "new card was ordered today" and that it will be sent to my address on file .I am very eagerly waiting to receive it.

Missed a LOT in these last 10years could not travel as I was warned that if I did I may not be allowed back in. Needless to say it has been TOUGH but I can now see the light. Will be a nice b'day gift getting the card. :)

  6. I received my Green Card in June of 2006 and when it came time to have the conditions removed, the officer at the USCIS took away my card saying that I did not have sufficient proof to remove the conditions on my card!!! That's when it all went down hill..... My case had been pending since 2008, yes 2008!!!!! Finally after 8years of back n forth with the USCIS the conditions on my Green Card were removed by the USCIS Judge no less on the 1st of June 2016 and all limitation etc were waived and I was to get reissued my Green Card!

Guess what...... I have the approval notice, the Judge's court order and all the other documents that clearly show that I have been approved and I am yet to receive my Green Card and today is the 27th of September 2016!!!!!

I have had numerous calls to the USCIS help desk and I get the same old same old " it has been approved "!!!! I also got a couple info pass appointments and went to the local USCIS location in my city and the officers there too do not have a clear answer or explanation as to why it is taking so long to get my card. But they said that it had not yet gone into production!!!!!!!

If anyone has any insights in this matter or has had similar experience please let me know.

    Thanks in advance.
