  1. We just received our case number and IID from the NVC a few days ago, and they said they will be sending our case on to the consulate in Budapest shortly. I was wondering if anyone who went through the Hungarian embassy remembers what they ask for in packet 3? And whether anything needs to be translated, like the police certificate? I'm wondering because I'd really like to have as much already ready as possible so I can send everything back ASAP.

    Hi,

Applying for disability and actually getting it are 2 different things. Most cases are denied at first. The national average of initial denials is about 66%: https://www.ssa.gov/policy/docs/statcomps/di_asr/2011/sect04.html

Most people then get an attorney and appeal. However, the time to see a judge about the denial can be very long, in Phoenix, AZ looks to be about 17 months: https://www.ssa.gov/appeals/DataSets/01_NetStat_Report.html

And there is no guarantee he will end up winning his case. If it is for a psych disability, be aware that those cases are very difficult to prove.

Also, if you and your husband get support from his family or live with them, or if you decide to become employed, his disability payments can be substantially reduced. https://az.db101.org/az/programs/income_support/ssi/program2a.htm

Therefore, the co-sponsor's assets will be the most important.

Thank you for the information :) We know that its not as simple as applying, and its not even the disability thing that we're worried about, its just whether or not the co-sponsor's assets really will be accepted as enough.

  3. Hello! I'm just wondering if anyone has had any similar experiences to ours and if they could give any insight maybe.. My fiance is unable to work due to PTSD from childhood trauma and is currently applying for disability. We have a co-sponsor, but they are currently unemployed, they are only able to sponsor because they have $130,000 in assets. They don't have any dependents so they meet the requirement for 125% above the poverty line for 2 people x5. Technically we meet the criteria that the government asks for, but I'm still worried it might get denied if they think my fiance being on disability and the co-sponsor having assets instead of income is not good enough..

  4. So we have just sent in our petition today, and we are trying to figure out what we're going to do once it comes time for the interview. My fiance (he's the petitioner) has not met the minimum required amount in the past year for his income, and the only person that we could potentially have as a co-sponsor would only be able to show assets, not an income. I'm confused about whether these assets need to add up to 3 or 5 times the 125% above the poverty guideline? And does it need to be 125% for only two people, meaning the co-sponsor and the beneficiary? Since it's about ~$20,000 for 2 people, would $80,000 be enough? The money is from a trustfund that the co-sponsor has.

  5. I'm taking some screenshots of our conversations/calls on skype with my fiance to provide as evidence of our relationship, but there are some parts in the conversations that are personal and i dont want to share that, however the part showing how long we've been in a call is right underneath/above some of these personal conversations, so can i edit/blur those parts? when i say edit i mean can i blank it out or something like that? i feel it probably counts as forgery :/

  6. Hello! So I'm currently filling out the g-325a form for the k1 visa and im not sure what to put at the part where it asks me to list all other names used. Even though my birth name is Janna, everyone has been calling me Rudy for years, its just a nickname that stuck. I'm on facebook by that name as well, but it says my real name under my 'about'. I included this name on my ESTA when i visited my fiance last year, because that had an "all other names used" section as well. But since its not a legal name thats present in any official documentation, im wondering whether i should write it in or if its just unnecessary confusion?
