The consular officers who do the interviews speak Russian. The woman who conducted our interview was American but she spoke Russian very well. Your husband should not have any issues then.

I'm confused...why would they speak Russian? I forgot to clarify that this is an interview for his adjustment of status. He's already here in America, so the interview will be here in our city probably so that he can get a green card.

Yeah in Russia when he had his K1 visa interview that of course was in the consulate and of course they spoke both English and Russian. Sorry if I wasn't clear about which interview.

  2. Finally our interview date was given to us. We waited many months, but unfortunately my husband still can't speak English. He can say a few survival phrases, but he doesn't understand people when they try to talk to him...We speak Russian at home, so he never needs to use the English...only sometimes when he's outside or at the store etc.....and even that doesn't really do anything, because we live in a city where it's mostly Russian and people from the ex Soviet Union countries. .so everywhere he goes there is always people speaking Russian.

    Anyways...

    My questions are:

    1. Do we need to bring someone to interpret for him?

    2. Can I be his interpreter even though I'm his spouse?

    3. What documents, and/or evidence should we bring to the interview?

    4. Will I even be in the interview with him?

    5) What kind of questions did they ask you? What should we expect?

I would like to here experiences from people who have done the interview already who didn't know English... and from even those who know English. It will really help us out to know ahead of time, because his interview is in a month.

It will often stay at this stage for months, let alone weeks. You have nothing to worry about :) Also, just because it says it's ready to schedule for interview does not necessarily mean you'll have one. Many people will find after several months of waiting that their status has changed to say that their Green Card is in production without ever actually having an interview.

I hope that's the case...that he doesn't actually need an interview, because he doesn't even speak English yet. He's still working on it.

My case has been stuck on "Ready to be scheduled for interview" for nearly 5 months. Many other people are stuck on this for months too. It is perfectly normal.

AOS can take 6-18 months. Patience :)

That's good to hear that it's normal. I really get worked up on these things lol. Wow 18 months. I will tell my husband to stop checking the mail everyday. I honestly was afraid that we didn't receive mail or something, because everything else has come fast for us.

  5. July 7th 2017 My husband was finger printed etc. at his bio metrics appointment. Than eventually he checked his case status on the USCIS site and his status now says:

(Case is ready to be scheduled for an interview)

As of July 26th 2017, we are ready to schedule your form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status, Receipt Number *************, for an interview. We will schedule your interview and send you a notice. Please follow any instructions in the notice. If you move go to www..etc.

It's now August 14th 2017. My question is How long does it take them to send us the instructions in the mail for the interview? When will we know when the interview is? Is it normal for them to take a few weeks to send something to us in the mail even though they already updated his status on the website? Is there a number I can call that I can know if they decided on an interview date already and just forgot to send us a letter in the mail?

If they did it'll get forwarded. It says takes 10 days to go into action but it took 2 for us

That's good to know, but do you happen to know if they send the adjustment of status approval using the address you provided on I 485 or are you unsure? because if they just use the new address that I provided on the new forms, than i have nothing to worry about.

Is the USCIS going to send my fiances confirmation notice in our new address that we are currently living at, which is the address i put on the new forms, or are they going to send the stuff to the old address (God forbid, because those people will definitely not forward it to us), because that's the address he was living at when he first came to the states?

I said Fiance, but I meant Husband...because we are married now. I didn't know how to edit the post.

  8. My question is in bold encase you get confused as to what I want to know.

My husband came to the US on the K1 fiance visa. When he first came I was employed as a live in caregiver, and the family I was living with at that time was very opened minded, rich, and didn't mind that my fiance would come and live with me at their home for a short period of time (In the dark basement). Eventually they started treating both him and I like their slaves, and didn't want us to ever leave their house, we had no free time, and they wanted my fiance to just do all their yard work all day, clean their home and fix their cars etc. They also wanted me to give their mother large amounts of medication so that she can die faster, because they were getting tired of paying for her expenses even though they were financially able, and didn't want to pay me to take care of her. Every week the family I worked for "forgot" to pay me unless I went to them and asked for my check. They pretty much wanted me to work for free. That's just the short story, but eventually I called my dad and my dad said ''it's time to leave that mad house, because their taking advantage of you both''. We left and we now live at a new address.

Now we are married and no longer have to deal with those sick people. and I sent in his ''Adjustment of Status packet''. When I filled out all the forms ( I 485 etc.) I put our new address. When I did his K1 visa documents before he came to the US. The address I put was at my work address, because that's where we would first be living together. Now I am worried about the new forms. Is the USCIS going to send my fiances confirmation notice in our new address that we are currently living at, which is the address i put on the new forms, or are they going to send the stuff to the old address (God forbid, because those people will definitely not forward it to us), because that's the address he was living at when he first came to the states?

Does your fiance have a connection flight? Wherever his plane first lands on American grounds he will go through immigration. There will be a line for American citizens and Non-Americans. He will go through the Non-American line. We he gets to the front he will be asked for his passport. When they see his k-1 visa they will ask for the yellow packet - most security agents will be familiar with this packet. They may ask his intent to enter the states - to get married, remind him he needs to be married within 90 days, and welcome him to America. That's generally how it goes, however, some people may have more questions asked - it's just the luck of the draw. If he doesn't speak English he will not be denied. Chances are he might be asked to step aside so an interrupter can translate for him.

If his plane flies directly to your town that will be great for him! Just through customs and then he's all yours. If he has a connecting flight he will go through customs at his first stop, board his connecting flight, and just be able to exit (without customs again) at his final destination and meet you.

As for not being able to enter the airport... I haven't heard this. You may want to ask someone familiar with the airport you will pick him up from or call the airport directly.

He doesn't have a connection flight. He flies from Russia straight to JFK airport and that's where I will pick him up. I will remind him to go through the non citizen line. Thank you so much.

  10. My Fiance is flying to the States on Monday the 10th. After he get's off the airplane where will he go? Where does he hand in the yellow packet that the embassy gave him? The main thing i'm concerned is are they going to ask him any questions or something? He doesn't even know English... so I hope he won't be questioned. Are they going to send him back to Russia if he doesn't speak English?!

The other concern I have is that I was told you are no longer allowed to enter the airport unless you have a travel destination. I heard that you can only wait in your car and than pull up next to the airport where they are suppose to meet me outside. Is that true?

Perhaps it's just a small delay because the medical results aren't in yet? This is what happened to us. We also weren't given any papers or anything when we left the interview, she just kept my husband's passport.

It seems to me like they've approved the visa, I wouldn't worry too much about it. For some reason it seems like they aren't as friendly and open to K-1 applicants in Moscow, but that doesn't meant they didn't approve you. Also, the CEAC thing updates a little weirdly in Moscow, you can read about it here in the RUB forum.

It turns out that he accidentally didn't double check his passport number to see if it's correct on the Traveldocssite. Only the first number of his passport number was incorrect. So they had to fix it today. It was probably just that one minor mistake. It's correct in his passport book of course, and his DS 160. The only place it was wrong was his traveldocsprofile, but they sent him an email saying that his visa was approved.

    Hello,

I'm the peterioner, can I fill out the D-160 for the visa application or my fiancé have to fill it out?

    thank you

    Yasser

I am the petitioner, and my Fiance and I filled out the form together. We made a video call and read the questions together to each other to make sure they understand everything. Then I signed in with the password, and double checked everything, and signed out again. Then he signed in and double checked everything, and he made the online signature. Which means that he basically pressed the button to submit the form himself.

So our interview was the 21st. Than It went from (Administrative processing). Than the 22nd it went to (Ready), and underneath ready it says something like ready to make interview etc. It still says ready and it's the 24th. IS that normal? I'm worried about it.

    It says exactly:

Application ID or Case Number:  *******
    Case Created: 22-Mar-2017
    Case Last Updated: 22-Mar-2017

Your case is open and ready for your interview, fingerprints, and required documents. If you have already had your interview, please check your status after two business days. If no interview was required, please check back in two business days for the status of your application.
For more information, please visit U.S. Embassy Moscow.

If you check via CEAC, it'll go from Administrative Process to Issued and it'll be send to him. Give it some time, if he was denied his passport would have been given back and he'd be given a 221g slip.
