I cannot bring my gf here from Indonesia as my fiance because we met online. Not a marriage broker or dating site but introduced online by a woman I have known for roughly 50 years. I have know my lady friend for several years now and we chat daily. The woman who introduced us told me to go for for it, extolling her virtues. But here is our problem. I am poor so she will be seeking work. I mean I have a place to live and a SS check that she and I could manage on but she has family she needs to send money to and I think that she can find housekeeping jobs at the local apartment buildings and college dorm. An elderly friend in poor health who lives in my building cannot find a dependable house keeper.
Bottom line is I would have to bring her here on a tourist visa and then marry her. we need to know how long it will take for her to be able to legally work after our marriage. How long will it take for her green card. As you all know, calling government offices usually means wading through recordings to get some one studiously unhelpful. So if anybody knows anything at all about this situation let me know. I did get a nice lady at the state department who was kind of helpful. But I think they all take an oath never to directly answer a question.
