Hi,
It has been more than 10 business days. Did you get the mail with the next steps?
We got the mail and and it said she passed the background screening. We brought this letter + her newly received EAD card to the DMV. Since her EAD card had her name in the correct order, they were able to fix her name order on her license (EAD counts as a primary document).
If we didn't get her EAD card, they would have issued a drivers license with her name in the wrong order.

I had the same problem as well. And I have to go to Custom and Border ( that where I 94 issue) to fix the first name. All I need is just provide them the NOA2 and other form from Vietnam consulate that show her correct name to fix that. That fix on their system in 5' and everything back to normal for me now. I definitely dont want her middle name become first name since it will cost lot of problem in future. For driver license, in Colorado, they need EAD in order to issue my wife learning permit. We still waiting for our interview to be scheduled
Thanks, this is very helpful.

Just wanted to give a status update. She took an online course to take care of the written part of the driving exam and to get her driving/learning permit. We received a voucher and went to the drivers license office today.
They asked for her Vietnamese Passport and two documents for proof of address (we used the I-485 confirmation and a utility bill). Since her Vietnamese passport and K-1 Visa had her name using the Vietnamese style (MIDDLENAME proceeding the FIRSTNAME), they would only consider her MIDDLENAME as her first name. Of course when they ran this through homeland security, it was rejected and they said we would receive something in the mail with the next steps within 10 business days.
This has been a pretty frustrating experiencing so far. May need to wait until the EAD card after all.

My understanding is that she needs and EAD card for identification purposes. Is she able to take the written and driving test prior to receiving the EAD card?
We have filed for AOS (K-1 Visa) along with the EAD/travel permit.

This is what ended up working for us:
1) I booked flights using the American method <First name> <Middle Name> <Last Name>.
2) At check-in with Vietnam Airlines, they corrected the name order so my fiance could get passed Vietnamese security at the airport.
3) For the connecting flights (Delta), a delta representative indicated name order did not matter and we had no issues.

I send money to my fiance each month and asked her to quit her job. The main reason is that I want her to spend as much time as possible with her friends and family in Vietnam before she moves to the U.S. Is this a red flag?

Thanks for sharing your story! I can't do much to help you, but this information is very helpful.

Her Vietnamese passport reads: <Last Name> <Middle Name> <First Name>
When I book her flight tickets to the U.S., how should I put her name? When I use the American style <First name> <Middle Name> <Last Name>, Vietnamese authorities have always given her a hard time. On one occasion, they made us repurchase a ticket because her flight ticket name was in the American style.
Thank you!

If you've paid 240k dong then it should be within 3 business days.
Is this a real thing? Never heard about it.

K1 - Quickest.
CR1 - Higher chance of getting approved. The reasoning is that it's difficult for the U.S. government to deny a citizen their right to live together with their wife in the United States.

When it requests for an original document, do I need original Vietnamese document, copy of original Vietnamese document, and English translated copy (3 copies total)? Or would just the original Vietnamese document and certified translated English copy be enough?

I am really nervous about mailing my original birth certificate to Vietnam (I am the petitioner). Is a copy acceptable? The instructions packet indicates:
"Copy and original birth certificates of petitioner and each person listed on the application are required."

Thank you so much Korruptor!

We never got packet 3 in the mail. Technically, you need it for the medical exam, although some have gotten by with just the interview confirmation. I wouldn't risk it and would just request that they email it to you via: https://vn.usembassy.gov/visas/immigrant-visas/immigrant-visa-inquiry-form/
We had ours emailed to us no problem.

Is there any chance if I pass the interview on Monday, I will get a Visa by Friday?

I live in Da nang. Will they let me know after the interview when I can expect to receive the Visa? How long does it typically take? Thank you!

I understand that the pictures should be in chronological order and that I should prioritize pictures with friends and family in it. Do I need to label them like I did for the UCIS application? Anything else I should I know?
We have hundreds of pictures from several trips we took, engagement reception/party, etc. How many should I bring to the interview?
This is for the K1 Visa.
Thank you!

My interview is in October. Can I go ahead sign and date the Letter of Employment and I-134 (Affidavit of Support) in August and send it to my fiance? Or should I wait until October?
Thank you!

Does the consulate let you know if they received your passport photos, passport copy, and DS-160 confirmation letter? Is there a way I can check? I shipped it via EMS with tracking.
Thank you!!
Getting a Texas Driver's License during AOS
in Vietnam
Posted
Let's assume the following:
- First name: Linh
- Middle Name: Thi
- Last Name: Nguyen
Her name as it appears on her passport would be: Nguyen Thi Linh
The issue with this is that Texas DMV considers her first name as "Thi Linh" (when it should be "Linh Thi"). They would not change the name order. When we applied for AOS and an EAD/Travel card, they were able to fix this.
