I am French and I work in New York with a J1 visa valid from 07/01/2014 to 06/30/2019. My girlfriend is Brazilian on an F1 visa and is currently in New York with an OPT until 06/30/2017. If we decide to get married, can she obtain the J2 visa while we are already both in the US? If yes, can she obtain it before the end of her OPT? And does she retain the option of working until the end of her OPT? Can she still apply for a work permit under the J2 visa?
