Rainy7, the CO won't make a decision based on what a child says. There is a slim chance your 5 y/o will be interviewed. Make sure you bring plenty of evidence proving your relationship is genuine, ie., photos of you together with your fiance, your child, your family, friends, dog, etc., passport stamps, airplane boarding passes, hotel receipts, chat logs, emails, etc. Even if you front loaded the petition, bring plenty of evidence to the interview.

Appreciate the responses. I'll keep those dates in mind.

A child that young will not be interviewed. As stated before, they could ask the child if they like your fiance or if he/she wants to move to the US. I would not sweat it; your child is too young.Yes I am also worried abt k2 interview. I have a child of 5 yrs. What if he couldnt able to answer right? CO thinks our relationship isnt bona fide. So much stressed out!!

Can someone confirm if a child k2 beneficiary doing a follow to join needs to get the medical exam and come to the interview at the same time as the k1 beneficiary? My son is 17 y/o and he will be doing follow to join next year after his done with school. I was wondering if his DS-160, medical, consular interview, etc needs to be done at the same time as mine, or being he's older and won't travel until several months ahead, those could be done when he's ready to travel . Thank you everyone in advance

Hey ECUK1,
I didn't have a flight number nor flight date on the notarized document as at the time I wasn't sure when we would be travelling however I would suggest as your child is a follow to join to add this information onto yours and a contact number for yourself and/or the child's father, depending on the airline they might want to verify the document especially if the child's father is not taking the child to the airport.
Another suggestion would be to ring the airline as they seem to have different policy's on what the travel document should contain, I found British Airways to have very strict policy's when it came to going abroad with minor children while Qantas didn't.
Hope all goes well for you!!!
Excellent points! Thanks so much Madden

No personal experience, but from years here on VJ, it depends a lot on how old the child is. A young child may only be asked the petitioner's name and if they like them/ are looking forward to moving to the USA. A tween/ teenager may be asked more about which school they will go to, how often they have met the petitioner and what they think of them etc.
Appreciate your response, it sure helps! I tried doing a search here but couldn't find any of those posts...by any chance do you have any of those links?

A lot of places kids under the age of 14 does not have to attend the interview. But they will still need the process of getting the visa with all the documents, medical, fee and so on.
Yes, I see Georgia16. My embassy already confirmed my son (12 y/o) needs to be present. As a matter of fact, the email I received said everyone getting a visa, K1/K2 included, needed to be at the interview. I recently read on a post somewhere that a kid on a K-2 was even interviewed, she was only 11. I can't recall which embassy it was though, they all do it differently. Now only if I can find out what type of questions to expect for my son..

The same thing happened to me at the SYD consulate in Australia.
The notarized letter I received from the father for my K2 child was never asked for at my interview, when I showed the lady interviewing me that I had it, she said it was up to me if my child was able to legally leave the country, she wasn't interested in it at all.
When I was checking in for my flight to the States, I produced it even though once again I wasn't asked for it.
Hello Madden, I got a question about the travel document for the K2, maybe you can clarify this. Do you need to include the airline flight number and flight date on the permit? My kid is travelling at a later date (follow to join) and I'm wondering if this is something that needs to the specified or not. What's your experience? Thanks for your time.

Update for anyone going through the consulate in GYE. I called and inquire about the document, and they told me they aren't actually required for the interview, what a surprise! They told me I could go ahead and schedule now, no problem. However, the lady told me I will need the document to take the child out of the country, it's Ecuadors law. I just wanted to update the post in case anyone else finds themselves in the same situation, but always call and verify, policies do change. I agree with everyone on the forum saying each embassy is unique, their way of doing things are different, go figure.

Wondering if anyone had the experience (or have knowledge) of a consular officer actually doing a interview to a child on a K-2 visa. Is it possible? If so, what kind of questions were asked? Or the minor is just present but is never interviewed?

Yes, this makes a lot of sense, they want to make sure he will be able to travel. They need it at the interview because they won't approve your K-2 (Print any visa in the passport) before they are sure that the child is allowed to leave the country.
I appreciate very much your time and for sharing your experience.

Ok I see, thank you for this information. I thought the custody papers had to be shown to custom's officials at the airport here for my son to get on the plane, in other words, to be able to leave the country. Do you know if this is the case and I will need duplicates? I don't know why they don't explain this and list them in the packet of documents required for the interview, especially since they are aware a kid will travel on a K2. Thank you again. They will have to see them at his interview before they approve his visa. They will keep them and put them in the package there can only be opened at POE by the people there.
Some countries are okay if mother have sole custody and others want the notarized letter from the father.

Hello everyone, new member here. I was wondering if anyone can give me information about the custody papers for my son, he's receiving the K2 visa in Ecuador. I'm ready to fill out the DS-160, and schedule the interview. I've applied for the custody papers and the father is willing to sign the Patria Potestad (custody document) but is taking a long time to process by the family Court here. I was thinking that the Permiso de Salida (travel permit) will be quicker to obtain, thoughts? Do I need either one of them (custody or travel permit doc) for the interview or just when is time for my son to travel to the US with his visa? Does the consulate needs to see the court documents to approve the visa or its just a customs and immigration requirement for travel and the consulate don't care? If they don't I could schedule the interview ASAP. I looked at the consulate website page and also their packets 3/4 information online but nothing is mentioned about either document. I'm so confused. Thank you in advance for your answers.
Medical test results sent directly to Embassy...anyone else?

My son (K2) was asked to come back to the civil surgeon for x-ray testing due to a finding of "something abnormal" in his tuberculosis blood test. So we go back to the doctor's office, pay the fee and have the chest x-ray done. We then were told to come back the next day for the x-ray results. We get back to find out the x-ray findings and now we are told that "everything is OK, everything's normal". Much to my surprise, the envelope with his test results will be forwarded directly to the Embassy from the docs office, while my test results envelope was hand-delivered to me to bring to our interview. Anyone else has experienced a similar situation? Should I be worried about them not releasing my son's envelope to me? Can we say he's out in the clear?
