Website still isn't updated, but I have the letter in hand.

Ok - this has to be good news VCS is no longer 1 year behind, but they are only 11 months behind according to their updated website today... hopefully they are approving feverishly...

Question? I was approved for my Visa on March 21st. I crossed into the US and activated my Visa on March 23rd. I had checked off that box to apply for the SSN with the application. How do I actually get it now ? Will it get mailed to me automatically or do I have to somewhere/call someone?

Hi All,

I just want to add my two cents in here also.

I crossed via Lewiston on Friday, March 23, 2007 and was activating my CR1.

We arrived at the border at about 2pm. We had a 24' Budget rental and my car on the back of it.

We went through the truck lanes, we told the guy at the booth I needed to activate my CR1 Visa. He took our passports and the envelope marked "DO NOT OPEN" and told us to pull off to the side and go inside to immigration.

Once inside, took about 5 minutes for a very nice gentleman to call my name. He explained it would take him approximately 20 minutes to get all my paperwork put together at which time he would call me back up again. I asked him if he wanted to see my 3299 with my list of belongings (was 3 pages since I had a 24' truck FULL), he said no. I also advised him I had 2 cats which I would be bringing in with me & asked if he wanted to see the documentation on them... he kinda laughed and asked me if they were foaming at the mouth... (?) I said no, he said "Then I don't need to see your paperwork)... LOL He was laughing about it.

My husband and I sat down, about 15 minutes later, he called me back up, took my fingerprints (2 index fingers only). He told us to have a seat it would be about another 5-10 minutes.

He called us back up about 10 minutes later. He gave us our passports back, had me sign a form to acknowledge he told me about the AOS process 90 days prior.

And that was it. We took everything, got back in the truck and drove off. I don't know why he didn't want any of my documentation, but I'm still glad I had it. God forbid if I didn't have it and they asked for it ....

Anyways.. That was my experience with Lewiston Bridge.. Very nice... BTW - Here is a phone # to call the Niagara Falls Borders which is updated hourly (5 minutes after the hour) 1-800-715-6722

I hope so too... If it doesn't come in tomorrow, my husband and I are really messed up with our plans... We will have to pay big bucks to get the truck for longer... and who knows what my boss will say when I tell him I can't come to work tomorrow..

Well my interview was on Tuesday morning. It's now Thursday night and still no VISA in the mail I hope it comes in tomorrow... My truck is already packet and I only have it for 6 days & I need to drive to Florida ... aarrrgggg... I've tried tracking the Xpress Post online too & there is still no record of it.. arrrgggg.. I'm freakin out right now... I need to be at work on Monday morning. I'm really freakin out..

hey kimmbo - I actually stayed at the DoubleTree hotel on Sherbrooke E. It was a 10 minute cab ride to the Embassy, but since I'm a Diamond Hilton Honors Member, I used points to book my room and it was free

Our Appointment was at 8:30am this morning, is now 9:42 and we are already back at our hotel.

Here's our experience:

7:15am - Arrived at the embassy door, first in line. Others in line had backpacks, purses, etc....

7:30am - Doors opened - Showed our Appointment letter, since we had no bags or purses we were allowed throught (THANK YOU VJ!!)

7:45am – Went to window 9, gave them my interview letter

8:15am – Called up to window 11, realized I had gotten the wrong size Xpress Post envelope. Husband went to pharmacy at the corner to get correct size.

8:45am – Called into room 7 for interview

Very nice man. Asked us how / when we met. Asked where we were going to live. And that was pretty much it. He had me swear that all the information I had provided was correct, took fingerprint of both index fingers & said that all information was in order and that my Visa was approved. Eh Voila ! Done He said we would receive the visa in the mail within the week.

And that was it! I worried & lost sleep over this for nothing. It was so simple. LOL

Now we are checking out of the hotel and heading back to Ontario to pack up my stuff and wait for the Visa to make the long drive back to Florida.

I want to sincerely thanks EVERYONE on VJ for all the support & advice. I would have been lost in this process if it wasn’t for everyone out there willing to take a few minutes out of their day to help out us beginners.

W-2's for 2006 ?? My husband is going with me tomorrow. We didn't bring any income stuff with us. We didn't think we needed anything per the package we got from the embassy.

I have the medical stuff, but what tax stuff were we supposed to bring for the USC?

Anyone else out there have an interview in Montreal tomorrow?? It would be so cool to meet a fellow VJ'ere and hopefully share in the joy of being granted the visa

Question: Are there any fees to be paid at the embassy when you go for the interview ? I'm going for the CR1 like you.

So I can file as married, but living seperately, his US salary exceeds mine, so if I claim his salary isn't it just going to make it that I owe more money or will his salary not even come into the picture ?

I'm hope someone has already done this & can give me a little guidance...

I'm getting ready to file my 2006 taxes. Since I'm married, do I file as married or single? My husband is the USC, I'm the Canadian. He's obviously never worked in Canada, so has no Canadian income. I'm just confused because my paperwork from the Gov't is in my Maiden name, but my T4's from my employer are in my married name.

What to do?

I tried googling it and spent about an hour looking around and found nothing.. I figured someone here has probably already filed taxes and knows.

Hi All,

Just wanted to give a review/update on my Dr's Appointment this morning. Let me start off by saying WHAT A GREAT DR'S OFFICE !!

Here's what I was told on the phone to bring with me by the receptionist (who was VERY friendly)

- I didn't need the Interview Letter - I just needed something from the NVC showing my Case # on it

- 2 Passport Photo's - US or Canada size - Didn't matter

- Proof of Immunization Shots

- Passport

- $225.00 Cash or Money Order (No Credit Cards Accepted)

My Appoint was @ 11:00.

I arrived at Dr's office at around 10:40. Receptionist took my letter from NVC showing my Case #, my passport & my passport photo's & I paid the $225.00.

2 minutes later, she handed me a sheet of paper with one of my pictures on it and said to go downstairs to get my X-Ray done.

Went downstairs, waiting about 5 minutes, was called in and told to disrobe from waist up. Got X-Ray done. Was told to come back anytime after 12:00 noon to pick it up. (was approx 10:55 by that time)

Went back upstairs. Waited another 5 minutes, then brought into exam room.

- Had to sign about 3-4 different pieces of paper

- Had to write my name and address on the envelope that would be returned to me

- Told to disrobe "completely" and told to cover myself with the paper sheet. (yes, everything off!!!)

- All this was done very pleasantly.

Dr. Laity came in about 2-3 minutes later:

- He asked me all the normal questions about my past health history... heart desease, liver desease, etc....

- He then told me he would need to give me 2 shots (can't remember what they were for) since I had no records of my shots

- He then did the exam, normal stuff, listened to heart, had me breath in 2-3 times. Felt my chest area, felt my stomache and that was about it.

- He took 2 vials of blood from me

- He gave me my two shots

And that was that !!!

I got dressed, went out to the reception area. I was told my results would be mailed to me by Friday (I didn't do the Fed-Ex Option for extra $20.00) Receptionist told me when she mailed out the results, she would hand write a little note to tell if everything was ok or not.. (hopefully all is OK !!!). She advised once I received the results, NOT to open the envelope, that it needed to be given to embassy sealed. Gotcha !!

Went back downstairs, had a coffee and a bagle at the little cafe since it was only 11:30. At 12:00 I went to X-Ray, picked up my chest X-Ray and left.

All in all, very pleasant experience. Dr. Laity was VERY nice. He shook my hand and introducted himself when he came in. He explained everything he was doing. He shook my hand when he left and wished me all the best !!

I would highly recommend London to anyone out there.

Anyone out there who has gotten their Visa from Montreal in the last 2-3 weeks?

I'm wondering what the timeframe is since they changed the rules that you couldn't come back and pick it up the next day and they would be mailing it to you. My interview is in Montreal, but I live in Ontario... My interview is on Tuesday... What are the chances of me receiving it by Friday?

Can you pay extra at the Embassy for them to courier it to you ?

I called the Dr's office in London, Ontario and as advised by the receiptionist (who was extremely nice). All I needed to bring with me is anything from the NVC showing my case number on it, my passport, my proof of any shots I've had & 2 passport photo's. The Dr's office in London, Ontario only accepts cash or money order. $225.00 and she said they would mail the results to me within 2 days. If I want the results fed-ex'd to me, then it's an additional $20.00.

I'll post an update tomorrow once I get back.

Oh ya.... the receptionist also referred me to this VJ website to get more information if I wanted it. Wasn't that nice of her .. LOL
