Can you say how long it took before you all got the oath letter/actual oath??

My wife changed her name as well, one month later she was at the oath ceremony and her new certificate already stated her changed name. So to answer your questions, about 3 weeks in Baltimore.

I am removing myself from November filer's post. Received a package from USCIS today rejecting my application for Citizenship due to the wrong amount on the check. (Unbelievable!) Apparently the fees have increased on November 23rd, 2010 which I was not aware of. I have sent my package on the Nov 22nd, but i guess it was not picked up till the next day by FedEx. Basically, the only fee that went up is Biometrics,by $5. SO now I have to resend them everything again with a new check for five more dollars.

The good news is they neatly returned everything back.

I read through the other threads too. In DC embassy, as you have mentioned, they don't stamp the passports with new name anymore. We are thinking of using our marriage certificate to change the SS card annd then driver license, along with the credit cards, while we apply for naturalization. My understanding is when we go to Russia, we just buy tickets in her maiden name, have bother her Russian passport (with maiden name), US passport with married name and certificate of marriage?

Hi all,

My wife did not change her last name to mine when we got married and still uses her maiden name, as it is on every document. I know it's very easy to change her last name while applying for naturalization, but how will it work with her russian passport? I know that to get her international (zagran) passport changed she has to go to Russia and change her internal passport for a new name, but that's just something I don't want to go through.

How would it work if we do change her last name to mine, and her Russian passport will still be in her maiden name, travelling, buying airplane tickets to Russia and so on, has anyone done this?

Has anyone crossed out "five years" and hand written "three" instead on the N400 form before? I am looking at the travel, and obviously since my wife has been here for only 3 years, I don't see why the USCIS would be interested in her travels while she lived in another county..

I have browsed around VJ and read all the instructions and manuals for filling out the N400 form, but have not really found a complete answer.

Part 8A. How many times have you been married (Including annulled marriages)?

This is both our first marriage, for her and I. Should I put 1 for that question?

Same question I have for

Part 8G. How many times has your current spuse been married (Including annulled marriages)?

This is her first marriage and my first marriage, shouldn't we put 0 there and N/A below for the previous spouse information?

It just seems a bit ambigious on how they ask questions and very poorly written in the instructions.

Any tips on where you guys put "N/A"s would be appreciated!

I just want to avoid having problems in Russia by showing 2 passports to say passport control when I am not asked. People use two passports to travel to Russia all the time, but showing them in the right order and at the right place does the trick for the fastest and easiest travel.

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me what the procedure is for travelling to Russia with Russian zagran and US passports? I know that I can't show both passports at once at some point in my travel, like when in Russia, any tips? Also, when booking a flight, it only asks me once for travel documents, like a passport, but I have two, which one to enter to get the electronic tickets from Aeroflot? I'd appreciate any tips from anyone who traveled with two passports before!

I think the only way out of this without much damage, is to tolerate her for another 4 months! And, then, after her green card expires, I can call the police and have her removed with little difficulty!

This will actually help her, in the end. She will learn that sometimes people can be smarter than she is!

It is not your job to teach this woman anything. You are not judge, jury and executioner here - but you are acting as such. I am not debating that her behaviour is unacceptable, but your methods as well seem very very harsh.

I don't think what you are contemplating will work.

First, you married her. That's a legal commitment, and a complicated one. You can't just send her back now that things aren't working out. She may think she is entitled to half of what you own, and she may not be, but it isn't your decision. Even if she is deported, you will still need to divorce her, and the divorce process will decide what she gets, even if she isn't in the US. If you don't divorce her, you also have legal obligations.

Second, the police will not take her and send her out of the country because she has an expired green card. In most jurisdictions, the police won't do anything to enforce immigration policy, and in all jurisdictions, your wife is entitled to a hearing before an immigration judge.

Third, if you do send an empty envelope and tell her you submitted the forms, you would probably be guilty of fraud, which might cause you all sorts of problems down the road, including at an immigration hearing. It sounds to me like the marriage was contracted in good faith, which gives her the legal right to try to remove conditions.

Frankly, what you are planning is not very smart at all. You need to seek the aide of a divorce lawyer.

Doing what he is planning on doing will not solve all of OPs problems, but it sure will help him get a better settlement during the divorce. With the police report of abuse and being an illegal resident that his wife will be, will help him a lot during the divorce itself. And my guess is that she will be busy trying to get all the documents she needs to get the GC back, he'll have some leverage.

It sounds like a sad situation. I would suggest, while you wait for the GC to expire, remove her from all of your accounts, if she is on any of the papers at all, if neccessary change bank account numbers so she's not on them, including insurance and utilities. And as soon as the GC expires you can call the cops on her for domestic violence, as long as you do it first. After that, change the locks and start the divorce proceedings, it would be much easier then.

I only left the last 4 digits. I do agree with most people, but to a point. Yes, USCIS is the governmnment, they may know a lot of information, but this is something that should not be given to them easily. Taking over someones identity takes work, you have to get SS numbers, DOB, addresses, and such, then open the credit card to use and buy what you want. Why should I make it easy for anyone who looks at the documents or (if they loose it) for someone who finds them. The government has a lot of information about us, and yes, we provide it to them, but it's all spread out, most of the time one branch in USCIS doesn't know what's going on in the same building in another department. I sent copies of checks, credit cards and check cards, blocked all but names and last 4 digits, only because this is not a requirement to send them photocopies of the cc, its just additonal information that makes up the whole case we sent. And yes, if they reallt want to they can get all your information, but I am sure they will not want to get all of the 16 digits, since it s not relevant to the case. All in all, its your decision.

hi folks just a question,

My wife just recently received the notice from INS regarding the need for filing for removal of condition during the first week of Oct 09. I am in the process of filing but wont be able to send it until at least the first or 2nd week of Nov. Her Temp Green card expires in 1/25/2010. I understand that i have to file this within 90 days of the expiration. Is this ample enough time for me to process, or should i rush this and send it before the end of Oct?

You have plenty of time. As long as you are in the 90 calendar day window before the GC expires you are good to go. Just make sure you dont send it too early, count the days backwards from the expiration date, Oct 27th is the first day you can send it in.
