  1. Aloha,

My fiancee and I were blessed with a NOA2 on 10/27/06.

Within a week the U.S. embassy in Tokyo sent my fiancee a packet - but instead of what we expected it was only a preliminary information sheet. She filled out her biographical information and sent it in via registered post (which shows receipt soon thereafter).

The instructions were to wait until her final packet arrived.

I have been following the VisaJourney timeline to the letter and was surprised when there was an extra step thrown in there that wasn't mentioned.

It has been ~3 weeks and she has not received any additional documents from the embassy. Calls to the embassy (including the fee line which is ~1500yen for < 1 minute) have just told us that they cannot reveal status of individual cases.

Has anyone gone through something similar with the U.S. embassy in Tokyo, Japan?

    Mahalo,

    Richard

  2. Aloha,

I believe everything went very well for you after reading your SO's thread. Congratulations!

Can you let us know what was needed/asked for out of your list?

Were you asked for the original NOA1, NOA2, and NVC letters? I am planning on sending color copies to my alien fiancee in Tokyo, but will send the originals if necessary.

Were passport pics of the sponsor (US citizen) required as well? I hadn't thought of including them!

I have a hard to replace FS-545 Consular Birth Report that I'm skittish about sending overseas and was hoping a color copy would be sufficient (that's what I included in the I129F submission). I am trying to obtain an original, but the FS-545 is no longer used and the replacement FS-240 is difficult to obtain. Oh well, no one said this was going to be easy, eh? ;)

Congratulations, again! I hope to be in your shoes soon! :)

  3. Congratulations! I'm in the same boat. I was so despondent that everything was going to take so long I haven't really been preparing for this day! But our NOA2 arrived yesterday and I've been in a mad scramble every since! Hah!

Regarding what we should be providing now... Are you going to be sending these in?

    1. Originals of documents in I129F: Does that mean my original birth certificate, etc? I included copies in the I129F and they were fine. I'm worried about sending the ONLY copy of my birth certificate via post to Tokyo. My birth certificate is VERY difficult to get replaced in the event something happens (It's a consular birth report from 1972 from the Department of State).

    2. Passport Photos. I included a passport photo of me in my original I129F submission. Should I include another in the packet I send to my fiancee for her to bring with her to the interview?

Sorry for the thread hijack, but I figure we're in the same boat so could benefit from the same answers. :)

    Good luck!
