  1. Greetings,

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but we can't seem to find the exact answer. My husband's AOS has been approved and his green card's on the way, but we never applied for an EAD (crazy, I know). Now that he's been approved, do we still need to apply for the EAD in order for him to start working? Or is he eligible to work with just the green card?

    Thanks very much,

  2. My fiance's visa was approved...and the morning after the military overthrew the government, no less - wow! He said that there was no one on the streets but that the embassy was packed. We're hoping when he leaves next week that there won't be any problems trying to leave the country. Thanks for all the advice and support - couldn't have gone through all of the IMBRA "stuff" w/out it!

  3. OH MY!! My fiance called me on Friday to say that the Bangkok embassy called him to ask if he could come in for an interview on Wed. (the 20th). They said that they were calling because there wasn't time to send him a letter/packet 4. I'm excited but also worried about the legitimacy of it all...it wouldn't be unheard of for the embassy/govt to do this, right? If all goes well, he'll be here next week! i can't believe it!

  4. Just a quick question here: for recalled cases, does the NVC assign a new case # before sending it on the embassy or do they use the old one? Usually the embassy responds to my emails fairly quickly, but I emailed the embassy a few weeks ago using the old case # and no one responded - I'm wondering if that had something to do with it...

    thanks,

  5. mike, that sounds very frustrating indeed - good luck at the interview next week. You're so close - that's so exciting!

People have mentioned being able to track things through DHL. How do you do that? Do you need a tracking number? I looked at their site and couldn't get anywhere...

    thanks

Mike, I'm glad to hear that they've rescheduled the interview! Best of luck! I hope that you soon post about an approval... :)
  6. I had a similar situation in that I had to change my fiance's address (he's in Thailand) and when I called VSC about it I was told that we had to call CIS to report the change and also fill out form AR-11. Yes, the rep acknowledged, the form is worded as if the beneficiary is in the US already, but it still must be filled out - I just put our receipt # and "pending application - I129F" at the top.

Since your situation is a bit more involved, I would do these steps (as it seems like CIS won't answer any questions until you submit the proper paperwork) and then contact the embassy directly to see what they suggest if CIS won't help. I'm sure they encounter this issue quite a bit.

  7. Cigarovich, I feel for you - that's so sad that you will most likely have to postpone your wedding; not exactly an option a couple likes to have to consider while wedding planning. :( Hopefully your ties to the embassy will help bring something useful to light. In our case, I have no idea where our petition went - other than the embassy in Bangkok sent it back on May 22nd. A friend of a relative of mine works at the NVC and he's looking into it. So far, he's at least been able to confirm that it's officially lost. That's progress...I think. I've stopped calling the VSC, NVC, and CIS because it's just not getting me anywhere and I end up upset every time I get off the phone - and I HATE crying at work! Plus they will only tell me I need to wait 120 days. Anway, I will post here whatever useful info comes my way.

I think it's high time that we (by my count 11 of us) whose recalled petitions have been lost by either the UK, Russia, Thailand or Phillipines embassies start sharing information between ourselves in a new post, since there seems to be so little available. I for one have absolutely no idea where my k1 petition is. VSC don't got it, NVC don't got it, and the Embassy was supposed to send it like 2 months ago. My wedding party is 2 days away from postponed, as are my fiance plans to resume university in the fall. Luckily my fiance works for the US consulate and has been promised action on her behalf this week by someone-of-power at the Embassy to find out what happened to our petition. And I will post the findings here.

As far as the rest of you go, and I'm only talking about those of you like me who have NOT gotten their case re-opened, please share any and all information and thoughts you can. :help:

  8. sorry for any confusion - in my original post I said "misplaced" and in the next one I said "missing." I've checked my notes and she did say "misplaced" - NOT missing.

cigarovitch, it sounds like you're in the same limbo a few of us are also in, too. When the VSC, NVC, and CIS said that they didn't have it, I emailed the embassy to find out exactly where they sent it too and they said that it was to the APO mail distribution center....maybe that's where some of these were misplaced...?

For a normally rational person, I'm continually astounded at how easily I've taken to grabbing at straws and believing all kinds of theories that are just that...theories. Right now I'll believe anything if it sounds good!

  9. The rep at VSC wouldn't elaborate - she'd only say that much, that they're missing. I just spoke with a rep at the NVC who said that they had not received it which makes me think that the missing apps (or at least mine) is maybe missing somewhere between the embassy and NVC. Who knows. It doesn't help that I work with a guy who used to work at INS and he's told me horror stories about their legendary inefficiency. grrr...

  10. So...a woman at the VSC told me yesterday that there were about 1000 recalled cases (which we know), but that 300 of them have been MISPLACED and will take longer than the rest. The 700 or so are being sent RFEs and then they're going to work on the rest. Sheesh...

I contacted the embassy to see when and where exactly they sent the petition back to and they said that they were sent back through the APO system to a mailroom in DC where they were to be sorted, sent to NVC, and then on to the service center that handled it in the first place (well, either VT or CA as we know). I'm wondering if other people who are dealing with Thailand are in the same boat...t&s, our petitions probably were returned from BKK at the same time. Ridiculous.

My fiance was at the same point in the process as yours, too - had submitted packet 3 and waiting for packet 4.

  11. I'm so discouraged...Received the NOA1 on March 16th, the NOA2 on April 18th, my fiance's application was sent back from Bangkok on May 22nd, and since then we've heard nothing. I've called CIS, NVC, VSC, and the DOS and none of them will tell me where the application is nor what's happening with our case. I've contacted my senators and one hasn't responded (I've tried more than once) and the other office said that they're aware of the situation, but there's nothing they can do. No touches, no updates, no letters from CIS or NVC saying the app's been sent back.

I'm so curious - what have people been saying in order to get info from the reps they've spoken to?? I must be doing something wrong because I've been asking the same questions that've been posted here, but, alas, nothing. Sorry to vent - just feeling more disappointed every day...sigh.

  12. Here's my info, too:

    VJ member-----------NOA1------NOA2--reopened—RFE u/d—RFE m—S/C---F/C

    bkk-puu-ying..........3/16...........4/18.....none.......none........none....VSC.....Thailand

I've heard nothing - not a thing - and getting very discouraged. I only know that Bangkok sent back his application on May 22nd, but no one can tell me where it is or what's happening - not even my senators as they've told me that they'd love to help, but there's nothing they can do. We're both very frustrated and I'm getting pretty depressed about it. Sigh...I'll be glad when we all just get our RFEs and can get on w/our lives. Not to speak for everyone, but I'd bet that we'd all agree that even if we have problems with the AOS and everything else that comes after this, it'll be a lot more bearable because at least we'd have our spouses with us as it's happening. Aagh, hope it's soon...
