  1. Thanks, we got it worked out.

I think this section is very badly written. We all have busy lives, for many in the process English is not the native language, and we don't need mindless bureaucrats obfuscating the process. The sentence "The filing fee for form I-485 is $1,140." is definitive. I shouldn't have to read any further. If there is a calculation that needs performed that should be introduced and then explained that there is a basic fee, a biometrics fee, and other fees as needed. If there is a table, then the sentence should say, "refer to the table below for the fees you will need to pay." Returning a payment without any explanation of what they expected is also incomprehensibly stupidly boneheaded f'ng nonsense. Sorry, as nice a person as I try to be most of the time, this type of intentionally unhelpful mindless drone people is one of the few things in life that rub me the wrong way.

    Yes, fingerprints a while ago.

USCIS acknowledged receipt of the AOS paperwork back on April 7.  I was assuming the "3 to 4 months" people talk about was between receipt of the forms and approving or denying them.  You are saying it is an additional 3 to 4 months between the approval notice and actually getting the respective documents?  A total of 6 to 8 months from USCIS acknowledginf receipt receipt to docs in hand?

    Thanks,

    David

  3. Sorry I'm sure this has been asked and answered.  I'm just not sure what to search for.

Wife is Chinese (I'm a USC).  She is in the AOS process and will have an AP travel document.  We are contemplating a trip to Niagra Falls, Canadian side.

Does she need any sort of travel Visa to enter Canada?  Assuming she has the correct AP documents, can she visit any country as per that country's status with the US about requiring travelers to have visas or not as if she was a USC?  Does her China passport change that beside for the countries China travelers may not need a visa for?

Does going to Canada pose any potential red flags or additional interrogation, either on exit/entry or come time for the AOS interview?

I'll keep searching, but TIA for any info or direction.

  4. My understanding based on other posts in this forum and the interwebs in general is that to renew a China passport in the USA one must visit one of the consulates or embassies.  How long is it between submitting the passport for renewal and getting it back?  Hours?  Days? Weeks?   I'm trying to understand if I will need to be planning a day trip, a multi-day trip, or two trips.  Thanks.

  5. I'm going to call the NCSC tomorrow, but any ideas why my I-485 would be returned rejected for incorrect or missing payment.  The packet had the I-485, i-765, and i-131 and a check for $1,140.  Do I need to include a fingerprint fee or something?

Of course, like badly written software, the USCIS does not tell me *what* was wrong, only that something is wrong.  Geez.

This is for AOS from a K1 fiancee visa.

    Thanks for any help,

    David

  6. Hi, I'm sure this type of question is annoying, but any thoughts on the current time between when USCIS receives an I-485 packet and when they would acknowledge receipt with the G-1145 eMail and cashing the check.  Sent a packet USPS with tracking showing it was delivered 3/1 and now it is 3/15 with neither an email or check cashed.  Should I wait some more, or make an attempt to contact them as to status?  I'm perfectly accepting of the fact that the US government is slow and inefficient, but my wife is getting a bit impatient.  I think what I saw on this board was something like 1 week to 1 month to acknowledge receipt, with the average being around 10 days.  Are processing times going up with Trump's meddling?  Thanks.

  7. My case shows "Case was approved ... we will mail your approval notice" on the myUSCIS case status page with an activity date of Sept 2, 2016. I have not received a physical mailing. A few questions;

    1. Does the physical mail have any information that I need? Is it just informational, or does it contain actionable information or tracking numbers that I need to take a next step?

2 I know US Post is abysmal, but should I be concerned I have not received a physical letter after two weeks? It was about 1 week between the site case status update and the physical letter for NOA1.

    2. Is this the same as NOA2? Or is NOA2 different than this "Approved" status change?

    TIA.

  8. 129F and all I have now is NOA1. My Timeline says "Based on timeline data, your I129f may be adjudicated between September 28, 2016 and October 1, 2016*. What does this mean? When I can expect them to issue a NOA2? When I can expect a transfer to the US Embassy? It would be simpler if common terms were used rather than throwing in a new term. Thanks, David.

  9. Thanks. In the internet age, I just don't like international snail mail. If I dated the documents around the projected time we are to receive the NOA2 would that be close enough? Or maybe 3 months from the NOA1 date? What is there typically; another 2 month delay between NOA2 and the embassy interview? For China, the Guangzhou Embassy actually refers to "Packet 4" , not "Packet 3" for the K1 Visa. I have that list from their site. Just wondered about anything else with my signature she might need before she got to USA.

  10. Thanks. So are the only two points in the normal process where we need forms with each others signature and are in different countries for the I-129F packet and the Embassy Packet? We prepared the I-129F packet together and I brought back her signed papers. I'm thinking of going back and preparing the Embassy Packet together with her. Are there any other forms she will need original signature from me before she gets to the USA that aren't in either of those two packet checklists?
