  1. It’s been a while since I have been on this forum, but I’m coming to you once again for advice on a visa application, this time for my in-laws. When my husband received his residency, we filed for tourist visas for his parents and a sister that has Down’s syndrome. They went for their interviews in Juarez and were not approved, reason sited was 214(b), due to a lack in strength of ties to their home country presented.

I contacted an attorney and she said it would be very difficult to get a tourist visa for them and that the best option for bringing them to the U.S. would be to file for residency for them after he became a U.S. citizen. To me that seemed crazy, but from what I have researched so far, it appears that may be true.

So, my husband is now a citizen and we’re wanting to bring his parents to the U.S. to visit. What is the best process? Their goal really isn’t to live in the U.S. but we wouldn’t be opposed to residency if that is the best option. Thanks in advance for your help!

  2. Hi jmhdz. We have not yet received instruction from the NBC. I made an inquiry and the response was that they would wait to send instruction after our I-212 approval.

After the transfer I also made an infopass appointment at our local field office and found that our case has now been transferred from NBC back there. It has been there since 9/6/16 and is waiting to be assigned to an officer and then adjudication. No news yet.

  3. Hi everyone.

I don't have much of an update. I still haven't received the interview instruction packet that has been on its way since 7/28.

I check status on CEAC and the USCIS site every day....multiple times a day, if I'm honest. Yesterday on the CEAC site the date was updated. The last time that happened, they mailed the packet and the time before, they mailed the letter for fingerprints. So I called the consulate again yesterday to see if there were any updates. They had no updates since 7/28. ?

Anyway, since I was on the line, I explained I hadn't received the packet yet. The representative told me I could make an appointment over the phone with her, I just needed my husband's passport number. That was interesting.....but really I have no idea what else is in that instruction packet for us. The letter with instructions for making the appointment for the follow-up interview, of course, but we still need the new affidavit of support, DS-260 and medical. Not to mention that we are still waiting on the I-212.

So, I just requested that the packet be resent.

So hard to wait after all this time ?

  4. Got another update. We saw a date change in our case status online, through the CEAC website, so I called CDJ consulate this morning to see if there were any updates. They told me that they mailed our interview instruction packet on 7/28. Haven't received it yet, or the i-212 approval, but we'll see what the packet has in it this week and hopefully get a little further in completing the new affidavit of support, DS-260 and other steps in the process. ???

  5. Spoke with USCIS and they advised me to submit the letters we received from the consulate, along with a letter from me in response to the RFE. I wrote the letter explaining the actions we took to get the prints and explained that the last correspondence was in response to obtaining those prints, so I hope that is sufficient. Just need to get the letters from the consulate translated and it will be ready to mail. ???

  6. Received a letter from the consulate in Juarez today that states that my husband can now file the I-212....smh! Of course we knew that, and the letter doesn't say anything to show he completed his digital prints so I don't think I can use it for the RFE. Crazy. Guess I'll call USCIS tomorrow morning to ask what I should do next. I guess we could make another appointment for prints at the Consulate in TJ, but seems like we just made a trip to Juarez for nothing. ???

  7. After 10 business days, the Consulate Call Center sent another inquiry to Ciudad Juarez. The CEAC showed the update and now reads 7/15/16.

Also, just read about another case like ours that went through the San Bernardino field office and the same thing happened. Sent to NSC and now, after 8 months, was transferred back to San Bernardino. Sad news. We were hoping for an approval soon. We'll just have to wait and see.

  8. Hi everyone!

I'm new to this forum and just restarting our immigration process after 10 years.

My husband was barred from entering the U.S., with a waiver available after 10 years outside of the U.S.

We're excited and confused, and are just trying to continue to survive. I'm glad to have found this forum and hope to learn a lot, as well as share our experiences to help those that follow.

    Thanks!

  9. We are processing our I-212 after my husband has completed 10 years outside of the U.S. Received by USCIS 5/17/16. We received an RFE from USCIS Nebraska Service Center & a letter from the U.S. Consulate in Ciudad Juarez. Both in the 2nd week of June and both for prints. My husband went to the open appointment he was given on 6/17/16. He completed prints and answered a few short questions. The consulate did not give him any paperwork and our case status has not been updated. Any idea what we should expect? Packet requesting new affidavit of support, medical, DS-260 and interview?
